Over priced and average at best. Food at the Brewery made me think maybe change was a coming, Birchwood too. Certainly not a foodie destination. Think more fancy(ish) pub food, but at restaurant prices.

That's very strange. I didn't think restaurants around here closed on a Monday night. But maybe I'm out of the loop?

el Masa is doing great things for the food scene here.

The Japanese is great too (my parents just don't like Japanese food)

The brewery as well, but would hazard a guess that if anywhere in town that was closed on a Mo day that would be it.

cocina (the median) is well loved.

maybe you should have asked here first?

I find cochina pretty average food wise, the cocktails are great though. Darya is still my pick for Jindy. Rosies in Cooma is easily the best food this side of Canberra.

Yep, in front of Woolies. I haven't tried The Artisan cafe. I do have a soft spot for the Cooma Cafe though. Special mention for the sweets in Kuma Pies. The guy who runs the joint is a French Pastry Chef. His sweets are top notch.

Hmmm they could all be moved on and fined by the police under the current health orders, wonder why the council haven't requested that sort of assistance?????

Yes local to the van park.

it’s good for people to think like that. Taking ownership of a place means they respect it more.

I agree. Once you loose that foothold in Sydney it is very difficult to regain. The plan could be to use the capital gain in Sydney to borrow against for the deposit on a place in this area. It is different if you are buying to live as opposed as a holiday house. But I am sure you have thought of this and more. And we all have different situations that influence our decisions.

And then Covid-19 comes along and all the things our decisions are made on the basis of, change!

No, but Im pretty sure we have walked past each other!

I have a soft spot for Bacco, been going there for 30 odd years. But its not like awesome or anything. There isn't anywhere that can compete with stuff in Canberra, or elsewhere, its a bit of a gap in the offering. Hopefully it continues to improve (IMO it has quite a bit) as it gets more year round visitation. Darya is great too, we went there for the first time, the first year they opened for xmas/NYE, we had just done an 8hr race, and were too tired to look at the menu, and asked if they could just feed us whatever they wanted. It was really good, we all paid $15 over the per head they charged.

Yeah, but with the loss of income I can't afford 2 mortgages on my own.

I'm pondering - very lucky my parents won't kick me out anytime soon LOL (even though I'm sure they want to some days!!)

    Found Scottski's rumour?

Jindabyne couple charged for breaking COVID restrictions

A 38-year-old woman and a 43-year old man from Jindabyne were each issued with a $1,000 Public Infringement Notice (PIN) fine on Wednesday August 12, after returning from Victoria and failing to comply with a self-isolation order. Police will allege they instead spent between four to five days at the Perisher Ski Resort.

The pair attained a permit to cross the border and attend a specialist medical appointment in Albury on Wednesday August 5. Upon returning to NSW they were directed to self-isolate for 14-days. Police will allege that between August 5 and August 12 the female spent four days at Perisher Resort while the male spent five days.

NSW health are currently awaiting the results of COVID testing on the pair, which was apparently undertaken today, Friday August 14.

    probably blowins ;)

If you moved down here wouldn't you rent the place in Sydney?

With respect to where we live, what is ok etc we all have our own balance between the good and the bad. My sister in law once said to me that I was so lucky to have my house in Sydney and a sentence later said that she could never have lived in our first run down house. She didn't seem to connect the 2. Our first house was dump. We rode the motorbikes in the front door and parked them in the hallway. The back fence fell into the lane. The ceiling fell in. It had an outside bathroom and toilet. There was no hot water inside...... That place is probably worth 1.5 mill now.

Don't your parents have some expectation of you taking some care of them some time in the future? Swings and roundabouts.

Some of these decisions are not easy. Sometimes we don't even realise we are making a decision till later.

Yes, but the area I bought in had a really really low rental yield. And I just refinance in April to buy the ex out. I borrowed right up to the limit of my current income only one bank would lend to me.
So would be a few years before I could afford a second property.

Hey @chicski , just curious. Where did you buy in 2007? That was around the time that myself and some other investors sold a place in Kalkite. I had already bought a second place on my own, which I still have.

Oh dear. So sad. They used to both greet us all when we walked past. One was a cranky bugger and the other one seemed so gentle. Am I right?

Anyway, we used to always say hello to them both. Beautiful dogs.

Jindy is truly going off now. Sydney money is roaring in. An aquantance had 1 of 3 on the market. Buyer wanted all 3, so they sold them all to them and they paid with no finance. So glad we bought pre-GFC!

We are big fans of Bacco, great food and happy staff, one of whom has the best jeans bum ever.

We don't eat out much, just grab a few cuts of the various road kill on the way home and fire up the bbq.

Having deer on the menu has really lifted the town dining scene.
