Yeah it makes sense, in aged care they are very concerned about transmission via fecal matter, (shared bathrooms) not sure where the research is up too, but you cant have folk camping near public toilets that were never designed to be used by that volume of people and probably are not cleaned as often.

Playing the COVID card does also allow them to call in the police to help under the health orders currently as well

Except that when you got up the road to Thredbo or perisher you use toilets that are probably more crowded and used by more people.

Now van lifers trying to figure out where they can go, border hassles.

Maybe they could organise some fruit pickers?

Pity its become a thing. Its always existed, but I guess its numbers and attitudes that have changed. IMO they need to action, not just give up and ban. How hard would it be to make a space for the van lifers, at a reasonable fee (say $20-25 a head), with a combination of self and paid cleaning. A camp kitchen and amenities block, and some CCTV cameras, reward the people doing the right thing, and go after the few that don't.

Or make some accommodation that doesn't cost $500 a week to four share a single room maybe.

In NZ it's reasonably common for non self-contained free camping to be relegated to outside the town limits, usually there's a large carpark wth a set of dunnies. By self-contained they usually mean has a shitter inside. People do get tired of van travellers shitting in their hedges.

Combination I think, some cant find anywhere, some don't want to pay so much, and some are van lifers, moving from one casual job to another, and "living the dream", haha, some dream.

Not debating the rights and wrongs of your thoughts, cause I'm with you to a large extent, but the counter argument would be that there are already commercial services in this space. Why would a resources poor council try and duplicate these, and there would then also be access / eligibility issues. How do you do this?

To some extent it is a ski town, if you can't afford it????

Just to be open though, I spent a whole winter in the USA in a van, doing much as these guys are doing. A couple of -40 nights at Crested Butte will remain in my memory forever :)

I guess my thoughts are, you have a bunch of people doing something, a bunch of other people are impacted, or just disagree, so you ban them. Is that problem solving? You could just ban everything, all problems solved. It will just keep reappearing until you find a solution that actually does something.

There are probably more people than ever, living for one reason or another, in their vehicles, all over the country.

The region, as a whole, pays people shit and massively overcharges for everything.

The van lifers are a response to market forces.

Went past today and was only a handful of vans left.

    Glad I don't drive a van.

That may be the case for the larger businesses. And there are some smaller businesses that take advantage of seasonal workers. But there are also a lot of businesses that may not be open next year. Between the bush fires, Covid-19 and drought most small businesses down here are struggling.

Most of the accommodation issue is due to the resorts and absent landlords.

    Sounds easy
    You should do it!
Or were you suggesting a Council/State subsidised arrangement that would then be a -I'm trying to think of a good name-maybe "Caravan Park"

There are any number of council approved low cost, $10 or a gold coin donation caravan / motor home or camping spots.
Whilst bike packing I have camped in approved low cost sites in Heyfield, Tolmie, Wulgulmerang, Gunning, and Gundaroo.
In my motor home I have stayed in Lake Cargelligo and a several other places in Queensland, some have hot showers others only have a safe spot to stay.

9million to the tvt. 3.5million to gaden trout hatchery. A million for a bmx track. Just a few.

There is ridiculous amounts of money being thrown at infrastructure in jindy but not one cent will go to housing problem.

Same for elderly. 20yrs of talking about an aged care facility for nothing, zero.

Why does the trout hatchery get 3.5mill for a cafe and cinema, yet elderly locals that require nursing home care have to leave town?

Just looked at RE in Berridale, maybe a fifth or less what is normally listed, everything under offer, everything overpriced (historically).

If this was last year, Id expect the road to be closed from about 7.30-8, as cars start sliding. This year, you would think with much less traffic, maybe not, but I bet the Whingers page gets actual footage. And that is even after they make it past the vibe police, making everyone put chains on in the driveways in Cooma.

All of the grants I mentioned were Pork Barrilaro related press releases except for tvt. That was parks and has great merit.

The bmx track funding was 3-4yrs ago. Still waiting for the track to be built. Covid stopped construction is the latest excuse.

Gaden was a fairly recent grant and press release, so I expect they will complete around 2027-2030.

All of these projects have merit, but do they really have more merit than basic services like aged care and footpaths?

Jindy pays exorbitant rates now and gets nothing for it compared to any other town.

They removed all the public bins and a dead body sat in the public toilets in the old shops for 3 days exposing they fact they weren't cleaning it regularly.

    This doesn't happen in cooma.

Cooma council are work to a minimum thieves in jindy.

The guy who arranged the van people to be run out of town is the same guy that walks around town screaming f'n abbos at white people with curly hair.

Jindy is being run by a redneck abbo killing farmer from cooma.
