, I could buy a mansion in Jindy for what I paid for my inner west apartment!!
Restricted supply. Deliberately.
It's how councils raise rates now their not allowed to raise rates. Drives the market sky high and prices workers out of town.
Don't underestimate the local greed to screw seasonal workers. They spend summer laughing at what a good system they have built. Openly brag about how they pay crap and then take half their pay for accommodation.
2001 I was on 650wk. Family wanted 400wk for a room.
They had never got more than 200 but think nothing of lying to newbies.
The reason the vast majority of people only do one season is local greed.
Price fixing servos, price fixing supermarket, price fixing resorts, one price list for locals and different price list for tourists
All the criminal crap not tolerated by cities is the business model here.
And that's all from a local business owner. I agree with them, but honestly, everyone here knows the scam.
So either last night or the night before 3 people beat up a 50 something man. Out him n hospital innCanberra. The police gave charged a 17 year old with a minor charge.
Makes me sad that this happens.
Where did it happen?
Don’t know. That is all we were told.. Might hear more tomorrow after my kids come home from work.
It is up on Facebook on the Monaro Police district oage.
Thursday night. Gippsland st
A teenage boy has been charged and investigations are continuing following a serious assault in Jindabyne overnight.
About 5pm (Thursday 20 August 2020), a 54-year-old man was allegedly assaulted outside a unit complex on Gippsland Street, Jindabyne.
Police have been told the man left his unit to attend to a possible dispute between neighbours, before being set upon by three people in the car park of the unit complex.
The man was allegedly knocked to the ground, before being repeatedly punched and kicked. The trio fled the scene on foot.
Officers from Monaro Police District attended and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
As police arrived, the 54-year-old man collapsed, and was taken to Cooma Hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics. His condition deteriorated and he was flown to a hospital in Canberra by helicopter, where he remains in a stable condition.
Following inquiries, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at a nearby home about 8pm (Thursday 20 August 2020), and taken to Jindabyne Police Station, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
The teen was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear in a children’s court on Wednesday 7 October 2020.
As investigations continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have dashcam vision, to come forward.
Inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
Assault in company occasioning grievous bodily harm is not a minor charge. I would guess a potential 10 or 14 year sentence. It is in that range.
Nope. 25 years https://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/view/act/1900/40/part3/div6/sec33
That was the verbal report before reading the police facebook one. My source will be pleased to hear the charge is serious. They were bothered that such a serious assault could have a minor consequence. .
And not assuming they are guilty. Just if they are found guilty the consequences are serious
... children's court??? 17yr old
High as a kite, no doubt.
Maybe, but then i'll just point out 54yo allegedly left his house intoxicated to intervene in a fight.
Stoners don't fight. Drunks fight.
I suspect both sides contributed to the end result.
Getting in a fight is one thing, but when the guy went down it should have been over. No present threat.
But I hear they kicked his head in after he went down.
In light of the injuries inflicted, these kids need to learn.
I would caution you against thinking the 54yo played no part in escalating.
Intoxicated? 5 pm? Sad if that is true.
Allegedly. A lot of 4th hand info floating around.
People i've seen meth rage have had it happen when they withdraw. In between taking it. The ones i've seen on it, tend to sit around developing elaborate plans to do stuff with their temporary superiority complexes but are actually to f'd up to go anywhere.
Fear them when they're off it just as much as on it.
The only thing that is funny about meth is they sh1t themselves constantly. It should be called shart.
I've tried a few drugs in my dj years but always did the research first. Like lsd is pretty safe and non toxic but paper trips are often strychnine based and your poisoning yourself.
In 05 when I first heard about meth and did the research it was clearly toxic and the range between efficacy and danger is too close. The mechanism of action was also related to brain swelling. So it was easy to avoid.
I then printed the study and gave it to everyone I knew taking it thinking logic would prevail and they would stop. No, they all got mad at me for being a downer on their fun. Only one of maybe 10 quit.
I'm like spock at parties.
An aged care provider offered to establish a facility in Jindy and asked Council for a break on rates or something like that, Council said no. Provider said syonara.
It's the maximum, whatever court they are in.
How long ago?
I had a coffee with a 90 yr old on Friday. This was one of the things we discussed. There are 90+ year olds driving from beyond Jindy to either Cooma or Berridale to visit their partner. Not good.
I was told that about 3 years ago.
Thanks. Filed away for future reference
Jindy council built an airport once. At Cooma.
Aahhh, I think you are stretching it a bit there. There never has been a Jindy council, and the airport is well within the Snowy River Shire boundary. I wouldn't be surprised if the SAM actually built it.
FWIW the rating system is pretty well legislated. It’s a tax, they don’t have the power to not charge it.
I'm not sure the council should be providing any commercial enterprise a rate discount for any purpose.
What about Doctors and medical facilities?
They pay rates. National parks doesn’t though.
Yes, we end up in grey areas. They looked after Cocker in Berridale and I have no problem with that. I would like to know who was trying to get the rate relief for the aged care facility, was it a large conglomerate? More information needed before blame is put on council.
Nor does News Ltd, but the council found 15 grand for them, but let's not go there.
National Parks, I don’t have enough info to have an opinion.
I do have an opinion on KT and it is not good.
How is it good that we pay the water usage rates for the properties that have permanent 365 renters (with spa baths) because the friggin council will no longer read individual water meters! Thanks to the amalgamation and learning from the other's down on the coast and their lazy cheap standards!
?? More information ?
We got a huge water bill recently. Probably 4 times what we have ever had before. I had assumed we had used more water but it did not actually make sense because it required us using an enormous amount of water.
Jindy is really busy this evening.
*for s Sunday
In Jindy they no longer read each individual water meter for each Townhouse anymore. They read only the Main meter now. So we now pay for the water connection/sewer connection component only and the Body Corporate (all of us) pays the entire water usage across 10 Townhouses. So those that don't live there permanently are paying for those that do!
For a Sunday this season, or any season?
Bit of both. I've only done four Sunday's this year. Tonight is many times over the busiest.
Normal season.. Comparable to a bank holiday
Maybe because it has snowed?
Sao biscuits sold out.
Only so many lift tickets... Accommodation available... Holidays pre-booked....
JobKeeper/JobSeeker/Mortgage Holiday, Access to $20K Super etc...
Well I I’m unsure and hinted as such that it was something.
I have been involved at the build end of a few projects that have had such things as rates, payroll tax, stamp duty and so on waived or discounted to make the project happen. It’s pretty common.
Sorry, it happens, more at State level than Council.
That is a sign of desperate times. The rest of the shelves must have been bare.
So there was no point in sending my mogul skier ashopping list?
Give it a go.
What do I know? I’m in Radelaide.
Jindy needs a second supermarket. In Sydney we have 6 big named ones within a 2km radius!
and federal ie tax subsidy, tax holiday, Angus Taylor ...
