You'll have to show me next time we ski together... ..probably in 2011. I can trade you some nice secret stashes at Mt Hotham.
A man doesnt trade gold for mud. I could give you stashes in Niseko, how's that sound? You sound about as likely to ski Niseko as i am to ski hotham
MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm Now this is first lifts Which led us to here Which was like this by the time we were done and the mountain was open And just something random
I hate to break it to you Verm, but if you want to ski steep and difficult runs in Victoria over the next few decades, you'll be heading to Hotham with a bit more regularity.
I seem to remember a bloke called Russell Tuggermuscle threatening to show pics of Hangmans, you never heard from him again.
So did we that day. It was the day after my birthday and it was a struggle to get up after a massive night at the "Hoo Har". It was all worth it though. While everyone was having our sloppy seconds, we were hooting around the Main Street area.
Ah ha i knew it was someone's alias, i should have known it to be dibbers. Apologies too for getting it the wrong way round. Come to think of it i dont think i have many if any pics of any of the 'secret' spots i ski on the mountain, never really thought to stop and take photos.
I have lots of photos of areas that everyone skis, from chairlifts, waiting around for people etc but not of the juicy spots.
Q for Carveman. Is that where you took some SICos in 09? on a bit of a follow me mystery tour? This little puppet lacked confidence to follow in what were marginal conditions... or somewhere else? edit: perhaps between Fed and Sthside? http://www.mtbuller.com.au/uploads/file/bsl_map_south_bigtype_2009.pdf
I don't see the point of showing pictures of where Hangman's is, as 1) You need a shedload of snow to ski it 2) You also need a shedload of technique It's not like your average punter will say "oh yeah...that's an easy run for me!" In 1991 a Finnish exchange student (who was ranked nationally for moguls) took me on a little wander past the Tyrol T-bar and under horse hill. I remember coming through the trees into a small area where you skied completely under a close canopy of snowgums, but the spacing of the actual trunks was very wide and easy going. The whole stretch was maybe a 100 metres long and about 20 metres wide but needless to say it's stayed in my conscious forever. I'd love for someone to take me back there one day... assuming it still exists of course. After all, the extension of Wattle Wiggle under Horse hill (which I hacked around in shin-deep powder in 1991) is now unskiable due to 8 foot shrubs.
Ive seen less than accomplished skiers (such as myself) fumble down runs like that they shouldnt be on. Those areas on the northside are even more gold than those on the southside, due to the minimal amount of times you can actually ski them. CM would have a few stashed away in the memory bank, i know i do and i would give up most of my spots on the southside before i gave up any on the northside.
Having shared a bevvy and a few ski runs with you Mx... I know the real truth. No use sssh-ing. and back on topic, another lost Buller file. With a certain club member eyeing off prime terrain, in marginal snow.... still OK. What happens on the tour....
Had some video from 08. Just a look around the place at conditions. Was a video report but the video page here blows so didnt get it posted after the trip. Had to split if into two parts. Video page keep eating part two, Ill put the other half on youtube sometime. http://social.ski.com.au/_Buller-08-pt1/video/1159644/39473.html
Yep, only "growing up at the lodge" style photos taken by the oldies or embarrassing ones with me wearing bad hand me down GS suits.
Mentioning Bill Duff's has got my memory in gear, as well as the joy of being able to ski almost every run last weekend, top to bottom. I hope this is the right thread to post this to. Firstly, to avoid the village crowds we would ski down between Georges and the original post office/police station to the Orange lift ticket box (about where the new Summit road now is I think). Then over Village Run to Shakey for the warm up runs. From Shakey we'd take the track through the trees, round the hill below Tyrol to get to BHS. Dam Run always seemed to be open to the bottom, with Tyrol T the only way out. Is HH half way loading a 90's luxury? I don't remember the towies being quite so friendly (customer first?) either. Travelling with a much larger male on Tyrol, we got a huge pull over that first cat track and the T-bar broke and sent us backwards. We skiied down, handed it to the towie and he told us to go to the end of the 30 min queue. Hey, we weren't the ones who fell off. Also, on Friday nights the race was always on to get to the mountain as early as possible. There was a different jeep pricing back then. The further away from the village you had to park, the more you had to pay. There were numbered bus stops on the road side that you had to lug your gear to, to wait for a jeep. Saturday breakfast catch ups always started with "Which bus stop did you get?" You always felt sorry for whoever got Bus Stop 27, the dreaded and most expensive Boggy Corner. And no matter which week in July or August we went skiing it always (without fail) was snowing heavily when we left Grimus' after dinner on Thursday nights. Cold and bracing. Perfect end to a perfect dinner and a great way to clear "snuffy" noses.
I just meant for people to keep posting the odd entry, to stop the thread from slipping off the first page.
Does anyone have photos of the old village T-Bar? I have seen it's remains and have often wondered what it looked like when she was spinning
And on that note, pics of the bottom station of the Enzian, Bull Run and possibly even Federation tows when they were running?
