I had a friend come out from Japan last year and he wanted to get a job here in Darwin picking mango`s.Backpacker work.I rang a friend of mine in the industry and he asked, what nationality. When I said Japanese he said no problem but they will NOT employ Australians,Irish or English. He said they dont work hard and they fight.Asian or European no worries.
Does sort of tie in with Aussie boganism,English soccerism and Irish craziness.

Some of the Aussie "travellers" may also have been encouraged in their behaviour by visits to places such as Vang Vieng, Koh Phangan, or Phuket, where visitors are given a whole host of opportunities by the locals to get drunk and behave like a complete tosspot, leading to a belief that that is how you travel. Sadly in some of these places the locals have foregone their own sense of pride in their town in order to siphon as much cash as possible off our travelling, drinking, knobheads.

I agree with all of the above. It's really frustrating to witness the behaviour, and really embarrassing when it's your fellow countrymen who are conducting the performances. I posted in another thread that in the last few weeks have witnessed arsehole Chinese, Russians, and Koreans in Vietnam and Cambodia. Although their behaviour was more being a douche while sober than trying to punch on while pissed.

I haven't been to Niseko since 2008 but I do love the place. Part of the beauty of the place incidentally are the plethora of local pensions and izakaya bars, particularly in the lower village, the onsens, the old chairs which don't integrate with each other that well etc. ski in ski out is just not an important part of the Niseko experience. I see it anyway.

Aussie bogans. Blergh. I think the problem for Aussie skiers who like to consider ourselves non bogans but don't have the cash or inclination to insulate ourselves from bogans in the lap of luxury is we talked it up too much. We told everyone how good it is in Niseko and Hakuba. Now they're there. And they won't go away.

Luckily there are lots of ski resorts in Japan.

It's not the bogans in Hirafu, it's cashed up aussie bourgeoisie with kids in all the gear. The mountain is full of beautifully clad aussie adolescents with gopros charging around getting in the way and making way too much noise. Gonna lose some out of bounds one day.

****ing idiots will be ****ing idiots no matter where they are. As soon as Japan is not the flavour of the month anymore they will bogan on to somewhere else. And i'll be happy for it.

You can dress down the stuff that happened in Nozawa and what goes down in Hakks and Niseko, but when you compare it to 'normal' Japanese life, it's a disgrace. I was a Non Jaes the other night and the shit I heard coming out of this bitches mouth who had to wait a little longer than normal for her meal was disgusting. I actually apologised to the waiter after she grabbed food from the counter she said 'was hers' and took it to the table. This girl looked about 16-17, private school with mummy and daddy and not happy she didnt get what she wanted straight away. Piece of shit should have just gone to Niseko.

Was sitting in a bar in Austria 1981 I think and we were drinking with some Germans. One bloke didnt talk much and looked very sour. After a bit more lubrication I asked him what was wrong. He said he didnt like Australians. Why I asked? He said that we were f***king pigs.He was from Munich.Nuff said?
By two in the morning he had me dancing with his stunning girlfriend.I married her two weeks later.Only joking.I guess by that stage he had realised we arent all arseholes.( Just my mates that went to Octoberfest!!)

There are bogan's throughout the world and it doesn't depend on nationalities, yes there may be rude Aussies in Japan, but I have seen rude Japanese down the Gold coast. In general I would think most Aussies are well liked overseas we certainly travel a lot more than most nationalities even though we are so far away. All I know is I do my best to be polite in other countries especially if I don't speak the language and hopefully if there is enough people doing that we make up for the idiots. I am sure the locals in Niseko would prefer the aussies to keep going there because their winters would become very quite if we didn't.

True, but without doing any kind of survey I'd have to say there would be far and away more rude Aussie bogans than rude Japanese.

There was a big Russian woman in the ski hire shop last week flat out whining because she had to take her boot off to do the ski-fit.
"Is too hard to take off boot!"
"Was so hard to get on!"
"Bring ski here and do on floor"
    GTFO
Despite their politeness the boot came off in the end.

I towed a japanese family up a hill in madarao today. They were stuck big time in a ditch after slipping backwards due to lack of traction.
They tried to pay me which I refused of course. Good vibes from AU to JP!!!

I don't get all the boozing and behaving like fwits. I spent 8 years OS with a number of seasons at different resorts in Canada and Europe,
All I was interested in was riding snow.

Unfortunately now days a lot of season staff are not there for skiing or boarding. Party life is taking priority. As for holidaymakers doing this it is a massive waste of time writing yourself off to miss first runs (Or even lunch runs for that matter)

People who drink hard at the snow are not interested in riding. They are usually there on a boys trip wondering where the Thai ladyboys and sluts on the beach are.

    Yeah, so pointless.
I spent a season at Meribel in France. skiing/riding for people (English/Australian mostly d!cks)) there consisted of endless laps of 1 particular run and endless beers at 'The Rond point'. If my GF was not working at Meribel I would not have been there. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.
Spent the winter digging mega jumps in the side-country with an English guy who largely felt the same way about the drink-snow culture.
Tried to ride with locals but as with locals everywhere, they mostly avoided the seasonaires. Some had that too cool thing going on too, for sure. I noticed that throughout the snow world. Anyone at a certain advanced/expert level/locals were too cool for anyone outside their clique. Especially Canada. Never been to Japan though I found myselfoften riding with Japanese crew of a similar level to myself in NZ and Canada.
Didn't see any Japanese in Europe.

And we get criticised for not sending our kids to a private school. When you see the sense of entitlement it gives these kids I feel completely vindicated about our decision.

I think it is the same everywhere. When you look at how the ski resorts are promoted (e.g. what happens in thredbo stays in thredbo) you can see why that part of it happens and why the locals are a bit cliquey. The family oriented lodges in Aus are a bit better though.

One can have a fun night at the bar drinking, meeting locals and other tourists, and then ride the next day. I'm out at the bar a couple of nights a week here in Akakura, and the vast majority of tourists I meet will ride every day they're here, hangover or no hangover.

I think the vast amount of Australians that travel are absolutely disgraceful. I've been to whistler about 3 different times and I can tell you on Aus day you feel like you want to hide, basically there is a bunch of f#$king idiots high on coke going down the mountain half naked using the flag as a cape, abusing the town and everything they come accross.... some Canadians i am friends with now hated me at first because of the perception I was just another Aussie.

heh, was in chamonix for STRAYA DAY a few years back and the biggest mess was some hammered swede on the bus back from argentiere, going to the room 9 to keep going. I wonder how she managed, she was pretty ****ed up making a right ass of herself. But she did know it was straya day so maybe she was trying to impress me?
