I’ve heard of snowboard bans in the US and Japan but here in Aus? Maybe I found the only one (read on)...

Being unable to get to Hotham this weekend , I headed out from my regional Vic base on a two-stop strategy (fuel and chains) to a small ski field for a day trip...

After around ~ 1hr 10 mins from base I’d reached the car park. Time to set off (note s/b ban on banner):

Being on AT gear (too stubborn to hire anything more appropriate) but more to the point being unfit, it took around 90 minutes to ascend what is a greater vertical climb than Falls Creek’s top to bottom and reach the summit - 220m and 4km.

Went for a bit of a wander whilst up there:

Wasn’t really expecting any great off-piste but couldn’t resist:

Wasn’t worth it but good to be out there. Managed to cross the creek but note the crack I caused (above pic). Next to follow might end up in the drink...

By the time I headed back to the car it was tracked out:

By this time I was regretting the AT gear as my 106 under foots did not want to glide (sans skins) and they were too fat for the worn-in ski tracks. Was (and still am) absolutely spent - steam even coming off my feet after de-booting...

Whilst I don’t have a penchant for small resorts (made a Mt Stirling video a couple of years back), today was of course at Mt St Gwinear.

So did you enjoy the tour? Gwinear is very limited but still a great little hill.

Overall yes but as the day wore on and my poor fitness started to bite, that lessened the enjoyment.

The snow was very dry in the morning - as dry as I've seen at such low altitudes.
@teckel the toboggans are kept separate from the skiers/snow-shoers. Still plenty of 4wd bogans though...

Once apon a time I offered to show two little visitors snow, as they had never been or seen it.
I was a bit worried approaching the summit without a sight of white. They were getting restive.
And there it was ! A three meter drift on which we built a snowman .
And ran back down pulling them on a toboggan on the grass. :)
