Sky looked threatening but apart from the downpour about 4:50 nothing more also for me.
Went for a 1km swim at Hampton beach and it was black towards Geelong and the heads, but quite pleasant on the beach and in the water, the S died down and bay was pretty flat.
TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DANGEROUS SURF for people in parts of the
Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:41 pm Thursday, 25 February 2016.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Winston lies to the northeast of Norfolk Island and will continue tracking west southwest for the next couple of days before most likely shifting northwest into the southern Coral Sea during the weekend.
The system is expected to retain an intense wind structure up until at least Sunday. Winds and waves are expected to increase about southern Queensland beaches south of Sandy Cape on Saturday as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Winston enters the southern Coral Sea, leading to dangerous surf conditions and significant beach erosion.
Water levels on the high tide could possibly exceed the highest tide of the year about exposed beaches of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast and also Stradbroke and Moreton Islands on Friday night and Saturday night.
The system should start to weaken from Sunday, with winds and waves gradually decreasing along the southern Queensland coast.
Surf is on.
