How are things looking next Thur/Friday at Snow Mts. BOM is saying down to zero on Thursday night with some moisture about.

Freeze level on GFS is around 1800m for Friday. Not a lot of moisture, but might see a very light dusting.

    IMO

Scattered storms around the place but nothing massive or major yet. It feels very unstable outside though.

Already huge totals of rain in some central Vic regions, and the worst is still to come.

Pouring some real hate over the central parts of the state this morning. I think I was woken up around 3-4am with the first round of it, loud enough to be heard over the air-con and with all the windows closed. It's been very showery every since with heavy rain at times then clearing.

Looks like a great day to sit around and watch it belt down. I am doubting the forecast top of 28C will be reached, if it is there is a fantastic chance of really intense storms.

Ok, I don't like putting the total accumulated rainfall prediction chart up every day, but this is the most rain I've ever seen on the GFS chart for our region.

PS It has been raining heavy here since 8:30am this morning. Windy too. Saw 1 boat being towed on the way to work, you would have to be beyond keen to head out today.

EC has that moisture stream a little further north, but with it showing virtually non stop rain for 10 days, there is going to be some massive run-off.
(as per the NSW flood thread)
    http://www.ecmwf.int/samples/d/inspect/c...n!2012022612!!/

It's dried out here in Melbourne for the moment. But with 85% humidity and warming up, it seems like a sure fire recipe for thunderstorms later today.

the majority of that accumulation is from one 24 hour hour period at 48-72 hours. I reckon GFSh as taken a pinger.

Afternoon BOM forecasts have all the rain in the north of Victoria & southern NSW with heavy rain for border regions Wednesday and Thursday. Currently they aren't expecting much in Melbourne post tomorrow.

Radar looks a treat. Plenty of big falls since 9am. Buller 46, Eildon 48, Coldstream 43, Ballarat nearly 53, Mt Baw Baw 50+; I expect that we'll have a few close to 100mm by morning.

Yarrawonga 120mm, Wang 90mm, and plenty of northern / central stations closing on 100mm.

Plenty of flood warnings across both Victoria and NSW.

I've only copped 40mm here in the SE, but some places around me have been smashed much harder, it just depended on where the embedded storms landed.

Some big totals up in the north, and if you think that's big keep refreshing through the day, because it aint going to let up! The feed is something to behold, I havent seen it like that many times in my life.

A fishing charter mate of mine was out on the water last night in WP, they were smashing some decent gummies but admitted the conditions were horrible and that the mud and weed was really getting bad towards the end of the trip. I wouldnt be fishing for the rest of this week.

72mm in St Andrews yesterday (midnight to midnight). About 6mm so far today. My driveway, which was washed away on Christmas day, looks like it needs some TLC. Thankfully, the 4WD can still get through. Should keep the door to door types away [IMG]

That big boy rainband is slowly pushing itself down into VIC this morning. Could get some good totals north of the ranges tonight.

Yeah looks better. Although I dont know what I was complaining about, driving rain at a music festival is about par for the course right?

I think it was about 40mm all up around Clayton (closest rainfall station is Oakleigh South I believe). I forgot to bring my coat and got saturated walking to classes. [IMG]

Check out the rain band in SA just crossing in to Vic. Might be more wide spread in Victoria than first thought.
