Time to flap the wings and head to the northern hemisphere
Getting absolutely smashed here now.
Couple of purple patches , I was under one about half hour ago, will result in some flash flooding....
The light and sound show is awesome.
Dat radar pic
Meanwhile, clear, warm and breezy in Melbs this arvo. Clouds have all gone. Humid though - 60-80% throughout
Check the Canberra radar porn ...see how the cells developed , and are still keeping on.
I thought for a bit there it was thru us but it's just re-ignited again.
Pity Mt Hutt never looked that good during winter.
Frost is forecast in Queenstown tonight. The skies have cleared and the keen southerly has died away with the low expected to drop to 1c. I've deployed the fleece over the tomatoes again (the best thing I bought this spring). Astonishingly I actually have some tomatoes on the vines though maybe that's because it's a variety bred specially for the colder conditions in the South Island and has the ridiculous name "Antarctica". The chillies are a write-off.
Good moisture throughout the country being progged for the next 7 days.
Jack shit happening in North Queensland so far. No sign of the monsoon trough yet, winds are still coming from the east/south east and not really all that hot yet. Need north westerlies to get any thunderstorms. Send some of that southern rain up here please.
Fwark dont rub it in bro.
Huge here.. flash bangs been going three hours
I knew a girl like that once. Or twice.
Melbourne has been missing out on all this action
Bluebird this morning.
How's that Gangajang song go .....
It was all early am in the bluies about 2 hrs worth of light show noise and heavy rain.
Still plenty of activity projected for the next few days
And ongoing until at least mid next week.
It's like a February pattern.
Not enough reaching down into Melbourne, I need to start watering plants.
Excellent Feb in December.... If only that meant july in may..
I've been doing that for a while now, it's not such a big deal, we're not that dry and the places getting the storms and rain need it more than we do right now. That said I wouldnt pass up a good light show, rain and hail.
Only that you guys loose me with the jargon here from time to time...
We only got 300 points out of it.
Goes on same page as the fire , and Saturday / Sunday sleep in while it's buckets .
Today is a solid chance for storms in Melbourne. Lots of people talking about the potential.
Yes a fair chance. GFS suggests the best chances are to the west of the metro area though.
Pretty much all NSW and VIC in negative LI territory.
Yeah its going to pop today around the Basin and Highlands
Yesterday the seabreeze tore the storms apart...
Today feels as fertile as any day I can remember.
Huge sea fog rolled in this morning
was eerie as
@ the gong
Check out those supercell storms near Renmark.
Yeh, really bubbling on the SA/Vic/NSW border.
Also further south at Mt Gambier.
Yeah popping up the back of me in the gong... can see some really nice anvils to angels 30 plus...
STW up for western Vic.
Yeah, radar really lighting up over the SW and storms about to make their way across the border into the Mallee. Looking like an entertaining arvo.
Honestly though, relative humidity in both the SW and Central districts is >80%, so it's just ready to go bang.
Don't c any warnings out from BOM at moment for severe thunder storms in NW corner of state...??
S...t now I do.... before brown rot warnings but BOM must just updated....
STW was issued at 3pm.
Cant see a lot happening in Melbourne for the next few hours. Perhaps later tonight, but it seems unlikely.
The temps have been well down on what was expected so we aren't getting that convective effect you need for storms.
Solid line on the border now, looks good.
Quite average soundings all round today, but plenty of action in many areas, so soundings arent always the be all and end all.
Going by the temps spikes, once the cloud over Melbourne pisses off in about an hour from now it could get pretty interesting and warm up quite rapidly.
I'm quietly confident that we are going to get something later tonight
Yeh, we need a bit of clear air to get things going.
Incoming , looks like we going to cop it again.
Just stuck my head out the window here in Sandy. The clouds look to be parting and outside just seams to be slowly getting a big brighter.
Might happen soon, long days this time of year so there is plenty of sun left to get things going
First bit of sunshine in Melbourne all day.
Nice line from Mildura to Portland.
I'm hearing reports of significant damage around Red Cliffs near Mildura.

Another hailstorm... Larger hail and more of it than before #Mildura
SKY NEWS WEATHER @SkyWeatherAUS 17m17 minutes ago
Major damage at Loxton, SA with winds peeling roof from one home & a tree crashing into another (@Amy_Greenbank)
getting hammered with rain here in Sydney east
haven't seen it this hard so consistently for a while
there going to be some local flooding for sure
just pulled the filter out of the box gutter, haven't cleaned the roof down for too long so figure theres enough pressure to push all the leaves and crud through.
Thinking you didn't quite get my point there ....
A lot of lightning, thunder and wind here in Bendigo, heavy rain for around 15 mins, 12mm in the gauge
About to get smashed here in Melbourne.
Coming in good. New cells embedded into the main front, plenty of fresh lightning strikes.
