Fun sliders on the north side of DI. The rain pretty much kept everyone away.
My old man got worked out oilies yesterday.
Then got worked jumping off the back of Woonona today.
2x totalled boards
1x arm in sling.
Some fun sliders at my fave protected spot down south this morning. Still a lot of water moving around everywhere else. Hopefully some treats around the dulla tomorrow morning.
Corri corner? Looked good fun
Had to go for a drive down Shellharbour way on Saturday arvo and I reckon that’s the best I’ve ever seen Cowries working. It was pumping!
Easy double overhead spitting barrels but looked tricky. Gee it’s an intense sucky wave where you can end up getting smashed up on the rocks if things don’t go to plan. Good sized crew on it and much less crowded waves not hard to find close by
How’s Tuesday looking on MSW
21.5ft @ 12 seconds
Takeoff area is the size of a dinner table.
So hard to get into position
How good was this morning, added bonus no one around.Tomorrow will be interesting, will be looking at a few novelty breaks
One of my friends is trying to organise a surf for tomorrow morning early at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot. I reckon aside from tucked right up into Kiddies’ Corner (take off, go left briefly, avoid rocks, repeat) it is likely to be overpowering the beach pretty significantly and a novelty wave search - or just sitting at the coffee shop watching the waves eat the expensive brand new turf at the edge of the beach away - would be a better option.
ummm, one with some protection from strong s/sw wind inside a bay is probably the only one........
Frustrating around the dulla this morning. GCR too small, the other side not really doing anything, Dolphin Pt too straight. Another few reefs nearby a bit too scary! Ended up tucked into a sth corner down Bawley Pt way and still managed some fun ones all to myself.
Did possibly the best turn I’ve done on a surfboard this arvo
Got a nice barrel too. Where were you @FourSquare04 ?
just around the corner from where you where this morning be worth a look.
end of a dirt track.
really boily on th etake-off ?
Someone tried to tell me it was 18 degs yesterday I had to disagree.
Feels more like 20.
Look-out folks it's ECL time of year.
I nearly took my body board out at the end of that bumpy dirt track. Couple of young guns were getting some nice tubes on the right handler. A lot of water moving in the middle of the bay.
Interesting, faces NE and takes a lot for south swell to get around the island but I suppose it's going to be a big one!
Doesn't take that much to wrap around as you might expect.
There is several options actually if you are inquisitive and don't mind a bit of a walk.....
Particularly I see you are a natural footer .
Make sure you pack the tweezers and betadine
Young bloke said to me this afternoon they have been pulling into pumping Jimmy's right the last few days on the early morning higher tide. Double to triple overhead.
Best part (apart from the barrel rewards) he said was getting out of there without any wounds. Said it was not perfect as some were clamping which was like playing a bit of Russian roulette.
Been out of the water for about 3 weeks again, morning after the shark sighting felt the back pretty tight first take off so bailed on surf and it just got worse over the following couple weeks. On the improve since late last week but still feeling a fair way off getting back in the water.
Mate I haven't surfed in weeks, missed plenty of good recent sessions and got salt water deprivation syndrome for sure
Finally bought a house however the bad news for you is that there's no granny flat and no room for one to be put in, and it's further away from the beach than I had hoped. We had to bite the bullet, there was nothing going that suited and this was the closest we could find. Going to be living in Balgownie from end of June for good. The only good thing to come of it is that we'll be getting a 2nd car so I'll wheels again, finally! Change in working hours hasn't helped my surfing cause either
Looking at that makes me think we will get some juicy ECL's and tasman lows over this winter when the cold air from the fronts push up over and into the tasman and interacts with that warm water. Good recipe for producing bombing lows!
Yes I had the same issues when I was down that way in April. Having limited local knowledge didn't help and you needed a lot of time, patience & petrol on your hands to get around and check all the spots, which I did not have!
Sounds like a common scenario for around that way, also sounds a bit like this (no names mentioned!). Was hoping to score this place particular the left when I was down this way in April but alas, not enough juice was left in that ENE swell to get it happening. There was the odd set coming in but wasn't real keen to head out there on my own with no one around at all. That joint is a bit spooky and has that real isolated feeling to it, even more so when there's no one around.....
Out Easty or Belo way?
@nfip stay safe buddy, I heard there was a 130km/h gust recorded down your way this morning!
Absolutely howling as expected here in the 'Gong. Not as much rain (yet) as I was expecting.....
Yeah I think it sounded like it was further south. Be a few waves inside dulla harbour today
Cheers. Yeah was a good blast.
Fortunately I'm reasonably protected from the Southerlies.
It's the NW that really rock my place.
Bins all over the road thru town.
I left home at 5.30 for the Gong .
Roads wheren't too bad at all considering.
That's definitely at the end of the bumpy dirt track! The middle of that Bay was like a washing machine.
Yeah all the protected / phanton reefs will be surfable today for those wanting to tick a box or just keen for a paddle.
Was dark when I left home so didn't get a sighter out the front.
That 'bumpy dirt track' was pretty horrendous when I was down there but not unusual for it to be like that. Managed to shear off a few bolts on the trusty Subie liberty wagon negotiating large holes!
Got out for the early the wind was insane air temp 8 thankfully the water was like a warm bath.Reckon the swell doubled in a hour
I've never been to the end. Perfectly happy to veer right to the beachie but haven't been there for years...
I checked both on that day and neither were working. Was first time I veered right to check the beachie which was by accident! I'd imagine that would be a good summer back beach / go to location as it appeared to have a nice headland to tuck away from the NE'r
I’d hit it - ...IF I could get the nose of my board down the face to take off that is!
I didn’t even go for a look at the NBSS this morning. A quick camera check shows we aren’t getting the beach/bank reboot we need (yet), seems to be heavy elsewhere but too south (and generally too windy/sharky/yuck).
Yesterday at home had this bank to myself for 90mins, stark contrast to the weekend where there was 30 guys on the local point, gotta love Mondays.
Good summer spot for sure
Sydney racking up 6.8m wave height according to Manly Hydraulics @ 13.8 second period.
Not bad. Record is around 8 iirc?
Do they publish Hmax figures? Cant seem to find them online
About as big as it gets in curly.
For reference Significant Wave height was recorded as 7.37m at 12noon at the Sydney wave rider bouy
a reading of 7.00m or greater has a exceedance percentage of 0.013%
That looks mega!! Breaking a mile out. DY Point would be maxed out. How's Deadies looking? @SAsurfa
Images just in from @Sprout_Daily for Man town! How's that for some size
Was going to catch the ferry back from Manly after shopping with +0.95 (Mk III) for ski gear.......... $60 cab fare back to Bondage Junction........ Dobroyd Head was getting pounded.
Neilsen Park will have waves .
Packed and hardly breaking into the arvo. Was solid late morning and midday but I wasn't there. Surfed South Steyne, fun lefts in between 6ft cleanups.
