That would be because Surfline bought CW, why some of the cams aren't shared between both I'm not sure. But they are one in the same.

Supporting local and Australian companies such as ours would be the best way to go :)

@nfip the molly beach waterfront seems to like to tell everyone on google where all the spots are around your traps

Not that their info seems all that 'accurate' :D

I'm surprised the locals haven't told them to tear it down :D

    yeah I know... :(
Next time I see him I will have a little chat.
daze of olde he would be in a little trouble.
for now tho I think the town is really struggling, many empty shops so the business like him are playing all their cards to get some momentum back.
fwiw I went to Nowra yesterday and the number of empty shops on the main street are devastating. to see.

Nup, down here in the 'Gong Craig!

Been a few sightings, water still unusually warm for this time of year I feel. Still hovering around 18-19

Our run of good banks has come to a end down here, struggling to get a decent wave the sand has moved offshore and swell just feathers on the outer bank then collapses on the shore.

Chap I surf with at the NBSS had guests in his AirBNB unit a few days ago - they went for a walk up Barrenjoey with a camera with a long lens to look for whales, photographed a pretty big Noah just out past the break up there. Apparently pretty close to a couple of guys out there too.

I’ve not seen any myself for a while, but the dolphins have been going off and there have been more seals around (or the same seal more often - they all look the same to me). Concur with the other posts that the water is pretty warm - I would guess at 19-20C-ish though.

I didn’t surf this morning but apparently it was small but ok if you paddled out with the right expectations. Depending on how I go with the season pass ticket lottery this afternoon I might have an early tomorrow even if it’s still small.

Small at the Bra today but really tasty, well formed peelers. Took out my hundred foot wide 6’4” (ok exaggeration it’s super wide though at 22.5” or so) but it just loves small to small mid size waves. You surf more horizontal than vertical on it but that’s ok with me nowadays.

same scenario at my North end. :(
    lovely clean conditions.
just enough swell but no dice.
I'm reliably informed the other side of town was cranking again this morning.
    plenty of barrels.
the goofy boys stuck to the lefts and gave herself space on the rights.
joys of growing up in small town and the respect from being part of the crew.

    yup.
was sitting on the beach apres surf watching with one of the local legends the other day.
    " young knees" we agreed.
    top to bottom not achievable.
common consensus is ... we are at least still out there .. so well ahead of the (chronologically challenged) pack.
    go boys.

The board was sitting in the hallway where I dumped It so had to put it away. I did that and checked - it’s actually 22.25” wide, which is still very wide.

With a super flat rocker and that width carried right into the nose and tail though, it flies. Its plan shape is basically inspired by the Michael Peterson single in MOTE. It’s not so great at sharp or pivoty turns though.

3/2 in Sydney, though with the windchill and cloud Monday needed the 4/3, got a touch warm if catching too many waves though.

Not when I was younger, but for sure now.
I thought the NSW south coast water had a real bite weekend just gone. Got chills in the short arm 3/2 but was fine in the standard 3/2 steamer the next day.

Update on the Need Essentials / new wetty discussion. I have a back zip 3/2 Needs steamer. 1 of the internal glued tabs pulled away on first or second wear, I put it down to my fitting error. But now the bloody back zip is getting stuck in the zip liner everytime I put it on and it's really really annoying. Now I can't wear it unless my partner is with me or I know someone will be about. But I also have a Needs hipster vest and the stitching on the hip cord went nearly straight away. I don't use the cord but after these minor quality and function issues not sure I can go back to Needs. I want / need a chest zip full steamer but think I might look elsewhere.

I had an Arzen 2/2 short arm chest zip and really rated it... I have a mate that has the Dawn Patrol and he rates it very highly - the quick dry stuff on the inside is great.

I'm currently in a 3/2 Zip Free - it's super warm, but when your shoulders are gassed at the end of a session you just about dislocate the things getting out. Cold days i have a hood. No booties. theyre a pain.

I had an ok surf this morning at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot - fortunately since I completely failed to reserve any days at all to ski in Perisher (due to their store being f**ked for a while then spending a couple of hours with one of my sons trying to force a misbehaving mower into cutting a whole lot of long grass and clover without clogging up and cutting out, then finally when I got back to try reserving tickets again they were all gone).

Anyway it was a foot or a bit more at bend-in-the-road. Only our group out surfing; we gave it about 90 minutes and we each had probably a dozen ok waves, so overall an ok haul.

The wind and sand were really cold but the water was pretty warm and very clear. We saw a seal doing seal stuff in the shorebreak before we paddled out and it had headed north up the beach and well away from us before we hit the water.

On wetsuits, one of the guys who I surf with just bought one of the lower series - ie not Flashbomb - Ripcurl chest zip steamers (3/2) and he is very happy with it. Most of us who bought Flashbomb ones a couple of years ago have had seams split/fail and needed repair (under warranty and pretty quick turnaround) but I think anyone who has bought one in the last 18 months or so hasn’t had any issues, so maybe they made a manufacturing change, or changed factories or something? Good wetties though, just not the cheapest...

@Annabuzzy looked pretty nice at da Bra again this morning. Similar size to yesterday but looks like a longer period of swell, so maybe a bit more oomph.

Can also concur from this late yesterday afternoon, some signs of some longer period S energy was definitely coming in and producing some 2ft+ sets down here in the 'Gong

Invested in a flash bomb two winters ago and while great initially, after less than a season it lost all its warmth and is now useless. Never paying that price for one of them again/

Use Needs and have no issues, though use the chest zip, so maybe that's the go?

Yeah at the price might have 1 more go with the Needs chesty. It's not like the products aren't usable, just minor quality issues which is probably to be expected given price point.

My current “everyday” steamer - for this winter and last - is a zip-free 3/2 Flashbomb+ and it is very good. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I had a seam fail and need to be re-glued last winter, and looking at the glue in general now (I just washed it out from this morning and it is drying inside-out) it is sort of cracked everywhere, but not obviously leaking water through the seams.

When I have 2 surfs in a day in winter I also use an earlier zip-free Flashbomb 3/2 steamer (from 3-4 winters ago from memory, has one fluoro green arm, and a much more difficult zip-free entry/exit than my newer one). I had to get a seam fixed on that a couple of years ago too, but looking at it now, the glue in it actually looks better/newer than on my newer steamer.

I haven’t bought a Needs wetty yet but everybody I know who has done so rates them, particularly for price/performance. I would go for one of those I reckon; even if it only lasts 1/2 as long as a Flashbomb (and I think Needs does have some wetties now with a quick-dry liner) your surfs-per-dollar cost for it should still be better. That said I have always liked RipCurl wetties and I know their size M fits me perfectly. I do want to buy myself the super-expensive Quicksilver 1mm zip-free steamer though, just they never seem to have stock.

I have a 3/2 fleece lined sealed neck entry Peak steamer that is half the price of the bigger brands and it’s awesome.I throw a 2mm thermo vest with hood over the top when it’s really cold.

I didn’t go for a look at the NBSS this morning but my friends did. None of them surfed, despite them turning up in wetties ready to go. I messaged one of them to ask whether *I* would have surfed - because as you all know I have pretty low standards and expectations - and she said “no, you would have gone for a coffee”, so it must have been pretty bad.

I got around to looking on the cameras just now and there looks to be a rideable wave on the highish tide, but I am stuck at home waiting for an appliance repair guy who failed to turn up yesterday but has promised for today...
