Waves cleaned up a bit today at the channel. Good reef and sand arrangement helps.
Went for a bumpy wave south of Sunshine today as points are very small and not worth the effort for me due to a number of school holiday reasons.
Nobody in our direct fam are vego, but we do like to mix it up and tempeh burgers are a fav. Tofu also always goes into our Pad Thai, and other Asian inspired dishes. I like cooking and good food that we enjoy.
Looks like a glorified surf mat?
Let's see him take on Pete Mels wave on that thing.
Had a surf at Tea Tree yesterday.
Swell had dropped, but still fun 2 foot waves. Who cares when you're on a log.
Surfed solid parsons Saturday morning early. The leftover lump from a few days of onshore winds meant the surf was nice and chunky - sets in the 3-4' range and not many people out. I mainly got flogged on closeout lefthanders but there was the odd gem or 2 to be found.
Sunday same spot again with maybe 50 people out and sets in the 1-2' range. There arent really any great banks around at the moment so most of the day was just pulling into small closeouts.
Last night I came home to some fun 1 - 1.5' waves at home with not many people out (not sure why, but I know the shark siren has gone off the last 3 days at the front of the bowl)..There was only a few of us out and we had a great time. It lacked some punch and i should have taken out the long board but there were still some fun waves to be had and the water feels like a bath at the moment.
JOB might have a crack
Saw a news article earlier that Noosa is swarming with people and house prices are going through the roof as a result of COVID
Yes and Yes.
The swarm is fairly standard for this time of year.
Pushing through at a good 9 inches
WTF is that ? What is wrong with a Trigger Brothers' Mini Mal.? .
I was thinking the same - you can ride _anything_ on a CatchSurf log (if you are JOB of course) On the wall of my office I have a signed photo of him barrelled (on a foamie) in the Waimea Bay shorebreak.
How about on a Womper?
How is the DHD going?
After my temporary exile from the Northern Beaches Secret (Hot)Spot - I lost track of where in Sydney was/wasn’t hot as far as everywhere else in the country was concerned and just gave up - I had quite ok earlies there yesterday and today. Yesterday was ultra-short-period gutless 1-2’ but amazingly warm water - I was cooking in my 1mm top and boardies - and today looked worse from the beach but surfed a lot better, a touch bigger but mainly a lot more oomph.
Pretty quiet in the water and mostly familiar faces when we paddled out at 6am and really quite manageable levels of unknowns (by NBSS January standards) until after 7am. I surfed both mornings until about 7:40, coffee from the Kombi at Av (and checked its almost total flatness) then home to hide from the heat.
Can also cheater five em.. My 6ft'er...
I've struggled to fully gel with it just yet. Mainly because i have spent so much time surfing the twin fin in the last 4 months..So it has been an adjustment going back to thruster. I've managed a few fun waves and a couple of good turns, but i feel as though I am a bit 'under-litred' on it. For reference - my twin is 33 litres, monstabox is 31 and the new dhd is 31. I'm still in the mindset that i need as little litres as possible, but my aging body doesnt agree.
Off to Melbourne next weekend - Wave pool and Phillip Island. I'll report back then after some decent surf
The classic pub view at wye. My arms are cooked from today, but a full glass off going on
I would care if I had to cart the log by foot to Tea Tree from Noosaville or the Junga!
You must have been very lucky with parking. I have given up at present.
You just need the magic car parks!
Hey mate......you goin?
Then one waits for mate to wipe the wax off his scrotum three times.
Dawn surf check.
cupple of cents overnite.
Big walk from the flags out to the water haha!
Gee this morning's GFS looks pretty mad for next week's south swell
Not sure how I feel about the lunch break surf, takes a bit to lock back in, or maybe I'm just bragging a little ha ha
would have been nice to capture on the camera , not just the phone.
of interest tho...
it is possible to navigate by the clouds.
the grey underside indicates they are over water ( reflected) / the coastline .
otherwise they are white underside when over the land.
Few nice waves at Sunshine today, was well worth a paddle this morning.
Haha, saw that, mental!

Yesterday and today were both ok for an early at the NBSS. Yesterday was a bit bigger but junky and some weird currents - you could feel then sitting in the lineup and one of the really good SUP guys who surfs near us most days even fell a couple of times when waiting around outside between waves. Today was only about 2’ on the sets but pretty smooth. My friends and I surfed about 90 minutes both mornings.
Biggest issue was hipsters on mals surfing without legropes (when clearly they shouldn’t have been). One of my friends got cleaned up by a lost board yesterday and had a rail on his almost brand new epoxy board dinged, and this morning another mate got an unleashed mal launched at him while he was paddling back out - he duck dived and got his board out of the way but copped a big hit across his back.
The 3’ baby shark my mates saw a couple of weeks ago is still hanging around - one of my friends saw it while she was surfing yesterday early at bend-in-the-road and the lifeguards have named it (I think Harold). The penguins were busy chasing bait fish near us both mornings so there is certainly marine life around.
I’m (probably) not going to bother tomorrow morning - I suspect the NBSS will be a circus and I wouldn’t get enough of a session in before it gets too silly. Really it’s a bit dark before 6am (I paddled out about 5:55 today), especially if the baby shark (or more importantly any of its parents) are around and I would expect the masses to be turning up from early.
Dunno though, if I wake up early and can’t help myself I might still go and try elsewhere. You’all know how it is
**** that no leggy shit, I let the board wash to shore or even towards rocks, their fault. And if it hit me I'd be almost tempted to smash the fin as well.
So many hipsters up here. Nothing looks cooler than swimming after your board.
I got narky yesterday because the vansters parked so close rear-to-rear that if I'm opened my tailgate it probably would've hit theirs. Didn't help my attitude that I had their mates van parked a similar distance from my bull-bar armed nose.
Point being it was all cool, but if I had a legrope-less mal ding my <1 year old epoxy Holy Grail I'd definitely not be happy!
During the current period I have made a point of riding older boards if I expect it to be particularly busy.
January can be horrific for surfing because of the large crowds with NFI .
No hipters on the bank we surfed this morning on the Sunshine stretch. Was good fun. But yes, one holiday reason why I have not visited the points recently.
I can’t completely avoid them... they are my friends.
This Tuesday's surf at Left point is looking good.....

Was really fun again this morning at Sunshine.
Maybe i should have headed north today. Very ordinary at coolangatta (as forecast).
Was smaller today 2ft max, but a slight puff of wind from the NW is a good direction for Sunshine.
Tiny on the south coast today
Unusually tiny on the south west coast too, swell buoys near 1m.
Still windy though.
Went for a swim at Moffat after a morning mtb session in ClownTown. Nothing durable there.
Been surfing a lot down south. Got a few nice backhand hooks in this morning. Sleeping in the back of my land cruiser. Old delica is dead
Was ok very early at south facing beaches. Hoping for increase soon.
