Monday May 16th 2022. I went for a drive after lunch to see
the waves on the high tide at The Pines and the Gunnery in the Shoreham and Flinders area.It was raining on and off so Rainbows were in good supply .

I went back to Point Leo and got my pre booked camp site allocated and sorted out .
The rest of the day I just chilaxed and took in the views from the camp site, right by the shore.
I cooked and ate an early dinner and enjoyed the moon rise over the sea.
I went off to bed and read the rest of " Washington Square " by Henry James. I quite enjoyed it.
I like reading the classics.
Day break the next day, May 17th 2022 was also remarkable .

I went for a paddle at 2nd Reef. It was solid work. The swell was increasing in size.

After surfing I went back to look at Crunchy Point and have something to eat before driving home. There were some big sets coming through . You could see the Bombora in the bay and the lines of swell coming across Western Port. The beast was on its way .

It was an enjoyable 24 hour surf and camping trip. I am looking at getting a 7 foot 6 " board, The Big Fish by Island Surf boards. The 8 foot Mini Mal is too big to easily duck dive in bigger than usual W.P. surf.

Went for a late morning paddle. Micro surf gradually killed by the high tide. Looked a bit betterer at North Steyne where the WSL contests are being staged. Water nice and warm, wind chill not so nice. Might have to consider dusting off the steamer soon.

People who surf in Central NSW and QLD have little concept of
what cold water really is :p.

A 2mm short sleeve spring suit isn't exactly over doing it in Sincity in May. And Torquay was my local beach when I lived in Geelong (a long time ago), though the coldest sea I've dipped my toes into would be Cloudy Bay on Bruny Island (hard to go much further south for a surf).

Well it’s been a while….. checked my last post and it was BC skiing on Oct 28. Been busy renovating and offloading a Qbyn investment unit I’ve had for many years.

Still managed to take in some surf time over the late summer and autumn and have really enjoyed the steady flow of east swell. Ummm, wonder what causes that….?

Have found new banks regularly and managed to dodge the crowds. Have spent a lot of time on my 9ft HP mal with MR twins and acquired an SUP for surf use and spent a week staying a short walk from a certain river mouth improving big time. One memorable early Tue morning out by myself and it was 2ft and running down the bank.

Had an 11 day airbnb stay at J Bay in late March and surfed and SUP for 10 days straight. Lost count of the waves after 100.

Off topic, but also snuck In some Monaro streams trout fishing trips in the last 6 months as well. Amazing how all the rain has transformed this area. caught my biggest river trout ever, 50cm Rainbow in one of those streams that gets stocked with Rainbows. Good to see the big fish are still there and the system is healthy. Got myself a little portable smoker as well and very impressed with the results.

couple of months or so back was watching a Sup out a reef/point combo down deepest darkest south coast, surfer was handling the sweep out there real well and getting some nice long slides with some sharp edge work thrown in.

I love south swells.
Have surfed 3 days straight at 3 different spots soaking up some south swell bank data and enjoying my now fully repaired quiver.
Friday surfed the 6'3 Lost Quiver Killer, it hasn't needed repairs and the glassing has held up better than the DHD. Not sure if this was @nfip curing tips or just better pop-out quality.
Saturday rode my old 6'2 DP fish after a bit of reconditioning work, went great.
And today took the mid- length out. It hadn't had a run for a while and went to a protected corner with the family. Was surprised at the size pushing in further up the beach, the occasional set pushing 4ft.

Another weekend confined to the points here. I braved the zoo for an hour at 2 - 3' Tea Tree. I got 5 smoking waves, almost back to back.

I saw lady take out a bloke with her long board, and another guy try and ollie a surfer, only to land on his head. Both incidents everyone seemed ok. That was enough for me.

The water is still up at 24 degrees, im still in boardshorts, and the water smelt a little rank with all the rain. :) Bring on the offshores.

Indian summer continues. Had a paddle yesterday morning at Manly. Was nice, waist high on the sets at South Steyne. Slid into a few, getting close to finding my feet again.

Dragged +0.95 (Mk III) out for a Shelly to Manly swim this morning. Air temp 11c, water 23c. Walk to and from the beach was the worst part.

Wasn’t sure where this got to!!

Head high today and up to 1.5x overhead yesterday at the Bra. Mostly close outs but you’d get the occasional good one.

I’m still easing back into the surfing to the point my lack of progress is starting become frustrating, but I’m sure it will come…more likely come September as any progrsss I make now will be interrupted by the coming ski season. A good problem though!!

Did a walk past South Steyne this morning after gym, nice peaky chest high. A crew out at Bower. Looked biglier up Queenscliff end.

I've had a couple of good days of surf here.
Maroochy has been providing the goods with a few fun waves in the 4 foot range. I had a look at coolum a well but it looked like alot of hard work.

3 surfs in total yesterday.. and the 2.2 shorty is now permanently on

A few nice little peelers at 13th today. 2 foot with the odd sneaky bigger set and only two of us out with a light NNE breeze. Bit of a collector's item for me, I normally find 13th incredibly annoying - although I don't surf the best banks in fairness. I'm a crowd dodger. Could be my last surf before the ski season so good to end on a fun session.

Never found 13 th Beach banks very good in my surfing days 70s .Peak would shift , fat waves at high tide , bigger than 3 foot and it would close out , the right at the western end near the sewage pipe was OK with a bigger swell.

Yeah it does my head in normally. You get a nice take-off, couple of pumps and then the wave goes uber-fat as it slides off the bank into deep water! As I said I don't really surf the better more crowded banks though so probably only got myself to blame...

Water temps have dropped in Sincity. Last week 22c now down to 19c. Will be 2 rubber caps, steamer suit and a frozen face swimming season soon.

Surf at Manly has been blown to Un Zed.
I was more than comfortable yesterday in my 2/2 short arm steamer.
But yes, with this weather forecast I think it will be a quick transition to the 4/3's in the coming weeks.

Lost a couple boards near Tabourie the other week,
The groms took their boards off and left mine untied on the roof.
I'm guessing they fell off when I did a bottlo run later that night! Can't blame em, should always check dammit.
Got one back but still spewing about the other.
Been fixing some old faithfuls that have been out of action for a year or so.
Bring on Mentawais in Oct.
Surfing hasn't been doing it for me lately, had my longest spells out of the water recently.

Feel a bit inadequate posting my offering after watching the video above! But it was 3 foot and fun with a decent offshore breeze on the Surf Coast anyway. Having said 13th a couple of days ago was going to be my last outing before the snow season I managed to skulk out for a few quick ones at Punto Addisio on my way home from Anglesea. Very nice too.

2 fun surfs at Sunshine on the weekend. Waves were small - 1 - 2' tops...

Far out the water was nice - crystal clear, warmish (23 degrees still), and light offshores. I could spend all day in the water when its like that.

Reckon probably should be moved to The Distance as really is more about sport participation than weather.
Prefer it in weather myself.
Was definitely more forecasts and swell analysis in years gone by.
Ben, Craig etc.
Think they're too busy with swellnet and the fending off Beachgrit shitposts these days ;)
Heading for a low quality Westernport dawnie now, dreaming of Hotham bc

Nah, I just work in them.
I've managed to eliminate most of
Mt Eliza/Mornington off the books in favour of 6 large gardens between Red Hill and StAndrews. Much easier to slot in a surf around family obligations when work is next to the surf. Even then I only manage a surf or 2 a month.
