Needs some more South to get up the guts of the deeper water. heads on 'em like mice when that place fires these days.

Vicco far west @SAsurfa - swell direction will be puuurrrrfect, had a brief tree change back in the area 09-11 just when I was transitioning back from lid to stick and the required synoptic set-up is like a tattoo in my brain :)

Interested to see how this Tasman swell settles in. For about 30 minutes at about 730pm last night it absolutely howled from the south at Queanbeyan, but the wind went as quick as it came.

Not as big as Monday's swell but consistent and 3-4ft across Queensy, couple of 5ft bombs right in the corner. Can't wait for the weekend when winds go straight offshore for certain locations with a kick in direction to the SE.

5ft no doubt about conditions this AM in Bondi. Bit wobbly and disorganised but looked ok if you had the day off!
This evening I saw a coupla freight trains roll into Bondi. Spitting and all... Which is atypical for Bondi!

Put a coupla hours in this AM between chart checks. 4-6ft out the front at Bondi. Bit roguey so you had to work for it.
I surfed on my own the entire time, no one else out (atypical!!).
Got a few solid runners, banks looking good for this neck of the woods, albeit guttery.
Few large kegs you could fit a small truck into (atypical Bondi...), got some on the head, tucked into a few exitless ones.

Hope you guys found a few.

It's Spring - yay.... Should a mod just rename it "The surf thread" and keep it rolling a.k.a the BC thread?

Dilemma with that is that yoga at North Palm Beach starts back at 7am tomorrow after its winter break and my wife will probably want to do that then meet up with me and my surfing friends for coffee and cake afterwards. If we decamp to Whale the logistics get more difficult so I reckon it will be atomic closeouts at Palm (or grovelling in dribblers down at Kiddies) in the interests of harmony.

Nice morning at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot. As predicted atomic closeouts on the outside banks all the way up the beach with a very deep inshore gutter more or less all the way along.

I got 10 waves in about an hour, all except one ending in a moderate pounding. Backwash and a really shallow closeout bank make an exciting combination. Water was nice though and the sun is pretty warm now.

Fair bit of smoke from hazard reduction burns too. My wife didn't come for yoga - the smoke would have made her sore throat a fair bit worse - but I still didn't drive around to Whale for a look as my friends were already in North Palm carpark and getting changed when I arrived.

Nice board @Belly is that a re-issue or an OG McGill?

Forgot to get my post but had my first surf in a good 3-4 weeks last Sunday morning for Father's Day and it was actually pretty fun around 2-2+ clean, a bit straight but a couple of fun ones and good to get out.

I'm guessing a re-issue - xmas last yr from the local Trilogy skate shop courtesy of my partner after much admiration. Trilogy are pretty expensive so I fitted it out courtesy of OCD in Melbs. Clear griptape for logo porn on top side, Indy 169's, 1/8" risers, hard times bearings, and the wheels, oh the wheels, PP 59mm G-Slides. I'll never ride hard wheels again. Oh and tail bone for old school stopping :) I did a slight reno on the old Schmitt Stix Bryce Kanights about a year ago, new Indy 169's and Bones Reds bearings, rest was 13yo Belly stock, including the hard wheels :) That is now decoration and just cruise on the McGill but as I'm rediscovering my competence I am looking for some more nose for basic ollie action, maybe a Santa Cruz Natas or one of the Vallely offerings, a year+ down the track though ;)

Oh the surf, desk review, yep nice peaks on the Wollongong report. And looks like Torquay has settled nicely ;)

After two pretty ordinary sessions on Saturday and Sunday early with the usual suspects, I had two excellent late-morning sessions up at Barrenjoey on Monday and Tuesday - both 2'+ on the sets, great bank up there and the offshore not too strong - and another pretty ok session today (a bit bigger, but more bump in the wave faces and just generally not quite as excellent). I wasn't going to have a surf today but my wife asked "aren't you going for a surf..." and I had probably grabbed my board and wetty before she finished the sentence.

Banks remain complete rubbish for 90% of Palm Beach (really deep inshore channel almost the whole length of the beach and just blobby banks out from that with no workable breaks off them) but right up at Barrenjoey there is quite a bit of sand currently and two quality banks so all is not lost for us at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot :)

On Monday there were about 5 others in the water - several of whom didn't get many (I made up for them ;)). On Tuesday I had it completely to myself for the whole session. In both cases it didn't look great from the carpark, and in front of the carpark itself was crook due to the poor banks and inshore channel, but with the handy-dandy little telescope I keep in the car I could see it was well worth the 15 minute walk up to the 'joey.

A friend who has the afternoon off just messaged me that she'd be up for a surf at 1pm today, so it would be impolite to let her surf by herself, wouldn't it. If last weekend is anything to go by the general lack of good banks on the northern beaches means that Barrenjoey is going to be crowded (by Palm Beach standards) from ridiculously early tomorrow and Sunday, so getting a few more this afternoon is probably a good idea.

@Normo is on record as being "happy to share" at Perisher. I will be happy to _not_ see a dozen or so people already in the lineup when my friends and I turn up at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot about 6:30 tomorrow and Sunday mornings. A win-win I think ;)

We just got out of the water at Bend in the Road. Nowhere near as good as previous days. Very shallow and breaking hard - just too much energy for te (lack of) banks. Photo makes it look better than it was...

Failed to surf this morning - we probably could have had a wave down at Kiddies' Corner at 6am on a lower tide but it was too full and getting worse when I got there at 6:45. Everything up the beach was straight and shutting down hard so my friend and I walked a lap of the beach to kill time until the coffee shop opened and while my wife's yoga was on.

Photo of yoga group on the grassy knoll after their class finished, with unrideable surf in the background:

Out of control for the majority of Palm Beaxh. My friends and I had an early down at Kiddies' Corner which was small (about 1 foot to 18" on the sets) but rideable. We must have made it look a bit too good because by the time we finished there were over a dozen surfing. I am sitting at the coffee shop now and there are some masochists out on the bank in front of the shop but it is just explosive destruction.

One of my friends who bailed from Palm yesterday without surfing said he had a good session at Warriewood yesterday - and is planning a second session there today after lunch - and another drove all the way to Manly for a surf and again said it was good.

Would not be surprised on either of those spots Ted RE: Warriewood & Manly

WW actually had some good banks for the first time in a long time this year and when I was at Manly last weekend, even in a fairly straight S swell there were some surprisingly workable banks which are usually more inclined to close out the entire beach from that direction as I'm sure @SAsurfa will agree on :)

Typically Manly stretch loves an E to NE swell due to the direction/angle the beach faces & also an effect from the QC bommie reef that helps to create those lovely peaks

Can't recall who was asking if Little Makaha was still being surfed these days but it was definitely in play yesterday when the swell was up around 2.5-3m+

Solid! I'd call that at least 2.5x overhead
