NP Jnr battling the North Coast crowds.
Right near out head office
...Incase the hype, hysteria and mayhem of the news hasn't gripped ya yet... 2 days ago:
Tama has been empty as an Aussie hip-hop gig since then.
It's funny ......... the efforts / cash to keep gobs shut up here when there are large sharks caught off our beaches.
Safe place for holidays? It's safe but the stigma from exposure.
The local rag down here has sensationailed it last 2 years in prime time.
I've pulled them up on it asking wtf ???
don't get it ..
article actually goes on to say the numbers observed not out of the ordinary ....
A few powerful groups here in town keep the local rag quiet in this regard.
No advertising sales for restaurants and accom. etc., = no rag.
However, on the other hand there is full exposure in the local rag against developers who have disregard for local law.
I have questioned them about this publicly and also in a pm.
asking why they choose to sensationalise something that is normal programming smack bang in the middle of prime time.
no reply as yet.
this the 2nd year running some gumby has done this and the editor has let it go.
but they not the ones selling burgers or filling beds.
Smaller again but smooth and glassy this morning at the NBSS. I didn’t get all that many - grovelled into maybe a dozen dribblers in an hour - but it was a nice enough paddle.
Haven't been able to manage a session this morning but the 'Gong report for SN indicates 2ft SE swell, so I can imagine it would be quite fun where I surfed yesterday and at a few other locations......hoping for a morning sesh tomorrow!
@W0nkey D0nkey if you're around looks like Woo could be fun.....
Anyone had any experience with Max Taylor surfboards? He's in the Thirroul area.
Nar mate haven't even heard of him to be honest.
Seems like the main shapers down here are: CSD (Neil Carabine) and Byrne
I see A LOT of CSD boards around, in the water etc
Based on his website he's more in the modern-retro space rather than performance
For performance I'd go straight to DP, but thinking of experimenting with a single fin in the 6'6" 37 litre vicinity (or exactly )
Actually come to think of it, I also see a lot of DP boards!
I've been into CSD they are North 'Gong on the way into town and seem like nice blokes, they fixed a few dings in my MG
Is Carabine still around? First new board I purchased (back around 1975) was a Carabine swallow tail flyer. Awesome paddling machine, just didn't like to turn. Christmas present to self for blowing up helium balloons outside of Grace Bros dressed in a clown suit. Some things haven't changed.......
Not sure if he himself is still around but certainly the 'brand' is going strong down here in the 'Gong!
He sold it to Shane Hornby now called Carabine Surf Designs CSD
Maybe a late surf but it's not looking inspiring.
Go on, you know you want to... (says the guy who can resist anything but temptation and who had a decidedly grovelly grovel this morning in very un-epic conditions)
Might go for a paddle just to stretch out on my board. Neck and back a bit sore from a big rock n roll show last night.
Tomorrow morning looks OK - I'm liking the longer period back up component:
@W0nkey D0nkey there might be a little wave at Easty this arvo
Very very inco 2ft to maybe 3ft every 5/10 minutes. Here's hoping. I'm thinking more so over the weekend.
This one's on down here tonight.
Was this last nights effort ?
You and Jimmy Beam ?
Decided I'll pass.
Reckon you wouldn't mind Pist Idiots.......

Sneak up to Southy for a wave if there's any banks
Yeah nah ...

it's pretty busy getting them in/out of the water and out of the way of the rest of the crews doing same.
Biding my time to get a few waves when the tourists head home from here.
just gets better from here on thru till august sept around here.
Yeah it was. Heaps better than TLE I reckon. UNI bar staff are very relaxed..
haha, was only drinking Bourbon because it was in a can. Good luck trying to hold a cup of beer in there.
I'm hoping to be down that way in April, just got the leave approved between Easter & A-Day. Might book Kings holiday park for the young bloke, he would have a ball there.
Heads up guys - if you take 3 days A/L over this week you'll get 10 days off. Get in early before others realise
Marlin get some pretty loose shit going on.
Have fatalities on their record, not their fault but... the vibe.
hence zero tolerance.
think about it from their perspective they have everything to lose, nothing to gain. //
Place is full of all the wrong shit from what I gather from the gang. even from the boys that go pretty hard.
Them days of a few sticky local buds and OP bundy have long gone.
comments that Milton pubs are complete different vibe , to compare.
April - May is THE biz.
likely couple of L sneaking past down south and doing their thing .
The Black Range Rovers / BMW/ Audi's (yeah you can smell 'em) are back in the shitty.
Mind you, love to work for them.
when / if I get paid but love em more when they phuck off home.
The NE wind came up super-early this morning so between that and the too-low tide and short period swell it really wasn’t much good this morning at the NBSS. We all surfed but nobody stayed in the water long even though it was nice and warm. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be better.
We have a SE wind for the first time in about 3 weeks. Not bad in the Sth corner of A Bay.
Yep this morning was a complete Bust.
Woo was the worst I've seen it in ages, just straight handers detonating on shallow low tide sand. Absolute bust.
Went and had a look at Tow and of course it was actually quite good, missed it
A lot better this morning at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot - I surfed with all the usual suspects (and very few randoms) in front of the coffee shop at the south end. Looks like it got busier after we had finished and had our coffee but it was a very nice early.
Was only a couple of feet but we were nicely sheltered from the southerly and the banks were working well - conveniently one bank suited the mals better and a neighbouring bank was suckier and faster for the short boards, kneelos and my friend’s son on his bodyboard, so a lot of waves got ridden with very little dropping-in. Kiddies was working too (rather too small and slow for me on my short board as usual) and a couple of my friends paddled down and had a foot or so of nice smooth little waves to themselves for an hour or so.
After yesterday’s early was more-or-less a dud for all our group it was good that it was balanced up by a good session today. I was a bit frustrated after how poor yesterday was but I am enthused enough now that I might go for an early again tomorrow if the conditions might be close to today.
The NBSS was ok but not as good as i’d hoped. I had it to myself anyway
Bump for @nfip or @SAsurfa, any Intel on Max? Cheers
Ah nah I haven't sorry.
nah can't help soz.
There was a Barry Taylor I think operating out of showroom on the hwy in Sth Nowra many years back.
@W0nkey D0nkey be more tuned into the shapers up North of the gong.
there is a fb page called Vintage Surfboard Collectors.
if any one would know .... someone there would. IMO.
Never ridden one but go for it.
I’m all for supporting local/ underground shapers
Cue the return of the cold water and sea fog (in light winds):
Swam a lap of Bondgae this morning before the cold water returns. Down from yesterday's alleged 22c
Yeah was a little fresh.
Blueys are in the House down here.
An article explaining all the sea fog.. https://www.swellnet.com/news/swellnet-analysis/2019/01/15/analysis-why-so-foggy
