Craig are you planning to head up / down the coast to make the most of it? Hopefully some good pics to come over the next few weeks!

Dropped over to North Stradbroke on the weekend. What a special place. Really only one surf break working, just south of Point Lookout, which was crowded as....... but mid week

Winds aren't looking the greatest for southern nsw this weekend. I'm definitely tracking the weekend following but not all the models are on board.

I didn't surf this morning - probably should have but didn't...

Anyway, a brief heads up from our beginner (who when not learning to surf or attending uni is a really good sailing instructor) on what could be a pretty cool (if off-topic) thing to watch if you are near Sydney Harbour this Friday or Saturday afternoon: https://sailgp.com/races/sydney/ - super-fast racing catamarans (up to 50 knots).

Long time reader first time poster to this thread, hope you guys don't mind the intrusion. I think the Tullamarine wavegarden's about 6 months away from what I've read. I've actually surfed the wavegarden in Snowdonia, and that was about two and a half years ago. Surfed it twice in passing when I was over there on a surf trip (yes, a surf trip to the UK...). Had an absolute blast. I did have pretty low expectations for the wavepool and for full disclosure I surfed it on a SUP (yeah, yeah, I know). But it was great fun and I reckon I'd still have enjoyed it on my shortboard, plenty were. Wouldn't do it every day and it's obviously not as good as being in the ocean but jeez, waves to yourself, always peels, lip there to be hit - what's not to like. It's not particularly big or powerful so if you like the heavy stuff wouldn't be for you, but my understanding is that Wavegarden 2.0 at Tullamarine will at least be slightly bigger. Plenty big enough to make it worthwhile for the vast majority of surfers I reckon.

Top tip - try and bribe the lifeguard to let you get the first wave of the day before the water starts bouncing around and chopping it up. First wave of the day was like glass - which is I assume why Kelly's waves all look so amazing because they let the pool settle properly between waves at the cost of waiting around forever. Not so at wavegarden where they are trying to maximise wave numbers and revenue generation!

A few pics from my visit in 2016

Is there a marker on the wall where you have to straighten out or stop surfing to let the beginners on the inside go?

No, they're just worth extra points if you mow 'em down.

Seriously though, the bathymetry deepens before you get to them so you can't surf into them as the wave goes fat. It then goes shallow again to give them a little shorebreak to surf. The more annoying thing was the intermediate wave which peeled off the main wave half way down, but the intermediates would occasionally drift down into the main wave by accident and get in your way. First world problems though...

Just got back from my morning sesh at Easty @W0nkey D0nkey

Started off low tide, slow, tiny when I got into the water around 830. But, gradually got bigger and with the tide starting to turn it then began to pulse from about 9-930 onwards.

@SAsurfa forerunners were pretty much bang on around 9am and packed a bit more size and punch with the extra period. I'd say 2ft+ down here, not quite 3ft, but building. Just too straight and not enough peakiness which was a shame. All in all a great morning out in the water, but not many decent waves were surfed. Managed to snag one good right and get 3 turns in, probably the most turns I've had on a wave in months :D

Easty wasn't real flash this mornin, the odd runner but about 90-95% closing out, maybe with a bit more water on the banks?

Otherwise could be worth goin for a drive, maybe Sth beach or some sort of rocky outcrop may fair better with the longer period.......

3-4 easy. Really consistent considering the turn of tide.
Bigger on the point (suicide) I'd say 4 to 5.

We had a good surf at the Northern Beaches Secret Spot this morning, just 5 of us. Was mostly 2-3' with the occasional 3'+ set. Offshore, shallow and steep walls with (mostly) makable barrels. One of my friends got an absolutely stonking 3-4 second barrel which he will be replaying in his mind (and to anyone who will listen) for some time I reckon! I got a few good ones, even the quite little ones had pretty good push in them so they were quite fun-packed. It was really very shallow and a fair bit of mushed-up seaweed to contend with, some swirly currents plus the rip was running pretty fast, so our beginner found it a bit not to her taste, but the rest of us gave it a good caning :)

I remember having the nationals. In February in Vicco.
    Was truly crap.
I dislike surfing in the cold.

South coast in winter is OK.

But it was 15 degree water.. .

Yeah I've seen from the train.

    Brrrr.

Friends of mine have surfed up in the Arctic.
    However reckoned Scotland was worse.
