A big day on the sticks.
Started out cold -7 and a little overcast so I put on the boot socks, it then cleared to a beautiful blue bird day and got just above zero. @PMG my feet were roasted at the end.

Started out up at Terakoya, then down to Giant for a few laps then over to Okushigakogen for some nice long arvo runs.
The ski runs are really quiet, amazingly quiet!

The Tanuki was sunning itself again under the eatery at Okushigakogen

Imbibed in some late arvo relaxers and cake from the selection a la Japanese cafeteria before calling it.

    Rest day tomoz. Shibu Onsen

Envious, the memories of previous Shiga trips.
Chalet Aspen still playing John Denver Rocky Mountain High on continuous rotation?
And yes Oku is something special, particularly after some dry fresh. Hotel Grand Phenix has the only coffee that resembles coffee and amazing timber architecture.
    Enjoy

It snowed all day until about 3 in the arvo, gradually warming as the day went on.
We started skiing on about 5cm of silky dry new snow and ended up on chunderous sticky pistes. Much fun.
It was wifey’s first white birthday!

She started with waffles and chopsticks.

Moved onto lovely quiet skiing at Terakoya, Ichinose and Higashidateyama before a celebratory gluhwein at Higashidateyama gondola top station

Where we admired the downstairs heating

We then moved over to Okushigakogen where it unfortunately started to warm but the birthday gondola snacks were goodly

This was our last day of skiing so it was good to finish on a snowy day.
    Ending on a high!

We’ve sent the skis off to Haneda airport where we’ll collect them on Monday.
Off to Shibu Onsen tomorrow for a look-see (we had planned to go there 2 days ago but I had attic and basement problems after something I ate violently disagreed with me).

I have fond memories of that restaurant (Restaurant 200?) at the top Higashidateyama gondola station, with the cosy fireplace, soft serve ice creams, and good meat curry. And then there were the infamous miniature toilets that have already been mentioned .... Sounds like a short but memorable trip for you both :)

We went down to Shibu Onsen for a sticky beak.
    https://www.shibuonsen.net/english/
It was a bizarre place of narrow streets, nice temples and old bath houses intermingled with a lot of dilapidated buildings with junk piled up between places.
We had a great coffee served with slices of Fuji apples in a very unusual “cafe” with 2 very elderly proprietors. It was a small space in the front of their house.
The Shiga Kogen shuffle buses are great for getting around.

Add very oddly laid out streets that can catch unwary drivers .

Waiting at Haneda for our flight.
We sent our skis from Prince West at Shiga Kogen direct to the airport, $28 / pair, via Black Kat, which really made the journey to Tokyo so much easier.
The Nagano Snow bus straight from the airport on our arrival to the hotel door was really easy and so stress free for us.
We both observed that all the public toilets everywhere were amazingly clean (as opposed to Australia).
The Google Translate App was a great help for communicating with locals who spoke no English (most of them) and the vast majority of people we asked questions were really helpful and amazingly polite.
The free hotel umbrellas were muchly appreciated in wet Tokyo.
Cash rules in Shiga Kogen, as we found out via the forums in our planning and we spent heaps less than anticipated.
Everyone we spoke to, foreigners and locals commented on the less than ideal snow quality for this time of year but we had a great time as we’re used to Australian conditions....so average to good Australian conditions with no crowds/queues and long runs (with not even a hint of grass or rocks) were a winner and because of Shiga Kogen’s elevation, I think we had it better than other Honshu resorts (thanks @cin for the recommendation)

Has anybody tried to get from Shibutoge down to Manza Onsen for overnight stay? Has to be by road - taxi or by the accommodation provider for overnight stay in Manza Onsen?

Edit: Road access to Shibutoge from south might be closed in winter so maybe not possible. :(

(did not find suitable place in Okushiga for overnight on ski).

Ps.: And what are "The Whippets" doing next? Looking forward, after TR Island and Shiga!

If you understand Japanese, this scene is very relevant to your question:
