May have a chance for a quick trip to HK shortly. Haven't been there for years. Any feelings on whether it is wort a visit nowadays or not? I know that depends on what interests you (ie: in this case not so much shopping etc) but I figure I could fill a few days doing.......something. Not sure what HK offers these days.

I'm going for 10days in October. Used to live there 38 years ago and have been back a few times. Get out to the village of Tai O at the end of Lantau, take trips to Cheung Chau and Lamma Islands. Get over to Aberdeen and explore the village. Shek O and Big Wave Bay for a day at the beach.

Thanks. Good tips. I like Lamma. The eating was good there.

We did the 32 hour layover Vancouver to Perth 2 years ago. We had no trouble filling in our time. Train from airport so easy. Weather was really wet so didn't so as much walking around markets etc.

Was crowded. Did the train up the big hill. Ate some local food. Caught up with s local friend. Drank beer. Worked well for adjusting to our time zone. Would do it again.

Gee, I found this funny. One thing to look out for in HK is there are quite a few cool speakeasies (as in legitimate unlicensed bars)...

Spent my life in the Bull and Bear and the Godown with its famous back bar, probably before you were born!

But seriously, it takes no time at all to leave the madness behind and it gets very jungly and isolated fast. Really, really nice day out.
I have some new territories walks planned before it gets too hot

Apparently lots of snakes on Lamma. I've only been after the early locals and tourists have moved them on....

Have done some great hikes on Lantau and came across these water buffalo right behind the beach at Mui Wo:

Will be back there 12th-14th March

Riddle me this. I have to go to HK and Singapore late June. I want to fly Melbourne -> Hong Kong -> Singapore -> Melbourne.

They tell me with Cathy, I can only fly Melbourne -> Hong Kong -> Singapore -> Hong Kong -> Melbourne. Which is seems odd (I'm guessing this is because Cathy don't fly out of Singapore to Melbourne). But surely there is a better way.

The reason I want to fly Cathy is I'm taking the family and the fares seemed reasonable. Well under 3k.

Skyscanner brought up this one with Cathay

    https://www.skyscanner.com.au/trans...30|16292-1806201805--32456-1-13981-1806211110

But it returns via HK, so long flight

If you could handle Jetstar from Hk to Singapore, the other flights are with Qantas

Yeah, I'll specifically ask that. I'm happy to fly anything on the way back, I just like to keep it around or under the price of a comparable business class fare (for one person).

Virgin - Mel to HKG, Hong Kong Airlines - HKG to SIN, Singapore Airlines - SIN to MEL

All are Virgin codeshare partners, so should be able to get it all ticketed on a virgin ticket.
