    Okay,

I am finally heading up to Thredbo for 3 days in the first week of September!

Managed to get $69 fares Melbourne-Canberra on Virgin Blue so it makes it a cheap weekend.

Looking forward to skiing the last major resort in Aus that I haven't been to yet [IMG]

Donza - You should be happy now [IMG]

skidown, Thredbo will be perfect for you in so many ways. Don't forget your white shoes, put on a vague European accent, and book dinner at Santes or Segreto.

I'm there most weekends from late June to mid September but I'm easy to avoid - I'll be at Friday Flat around 0915 each morning.

[IMG] I hardly think a couple of $69 fares are going to help make it a cheap weekend in the Australian snow fields. (Unless of course you are planning on sharing a room at the YHA with Donza)

    YHA - Chuckles....

Yeh well it's working out pretty cheap so far and it's nice to get away to somewhere different

    $145 Flights
$275 Car Hire - Hertz want to give me a C Series Mercdes for the same price as a Corolla - Thanks
    $300 Lift tickets

Accommodation... I am after a Fri/Sat/Sun stay which limits my options big time due to the restrictive stay requirements...

Sent off a few emails will see what comes back.

$700-$1500 would be the cost for 3 nights accommodation from the looks of things, it's the accomodation that kills it!

Even staying in Jindy in a decent place is about $300 per night, but I want to stay on-snow this time though.

You could always look at doing the Friday, Saturday night in Thredbo and then a night at the LJ or some other lodge type accom in Jindy for the Sunday night

Just ski one day over on the darkside, and you can experience The Resort. Cheap as. Hahahahahaha. Does anyone actually stay there more than once, who isnt a pill popping tween? Or a ped.

The one time I stayed somewhere other than cassa transporter, I rang the Thredbo line on Saturday morning (August), looking to stay Saturday till the following Sunday. There was nothing online. They found me a great little place, Snowy Creek 1 I think it was. Talk to a human, its amazing what they can do for you.

Also you need to hook up with a local or regular, they will show you runs you may not find on your own. Just chat with people on the lifts, its easy to hook up. Thredbo has a fair bit of terrain that isnt shown clearly on the pamphlet.

    Got two replies this morning!

Thredbo.com.au - Lovely email with two options [IMG]

Thredo hotel $1500 for three nights with hot buffet breakfasts included and 1 pub meal and 1 x 2 course dinner included
So that would be about $250 of food value included at RRP

River Inn - $1082 for three nights with breakfast included and 1 x dinner.

River Inn - Seems to be a "party place" ? ??? Also looks like a dump in reviews.

The other reply was from an "Apartment complex" who shall remain nameless, but they manage lots of apartments in Thredbo....

They couldn't offer me anything as I am going between "Mid Season" and "Value Season"

Yep that's great.......... Not that they don't want to offer a 3 night stay but going between "Seasons" is too hard for them

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

River Inn is a definite NO for you skidown. Great for a couple of mates who like drinking and bongs, awesome ski in/out position, but an absolute nightmare for the relaxed and comfortable.

For your first time in Thredbo I suggest the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. Its expensive yes. But it is the quintessential Thredbo experience. It was the first hotel in Thredbo and although it has been renovated, there is alot of history there. Saturday night flare run is great to watch from the lounge by the fire, but you will be hard pressed to find seats as this is popular. Segretos is in the same building and it is a really nice place with top notch food. The breakfast at the Alpine is also top notch. As donza says, you will want to get the valley view rooms. Sitting in your room having a drink at night, or getting up first thing in the morning and looking up at the mountain, you feel like you are looking at a real mountain. Alpine is the closest hotel in the village to the slopes too.

Other options, Denman is great, food is great, bar is fantastic. But stay in the village, don't stay on Riverside IMO.

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

Pub meal is [IMG] in my books. I honestly don't like the fancy crap that much. Some of the food in my TR, mainly the food on the plane, was too fancy for my likings, tasted good, but I'd prefer a parma, pizza or good steak.

Room - "King Room" no mention of views and doesn't appear to be any choice in that.

Yeh $500 per night is OK when you consider the location, and some food included.

Works out to about $400 per night and this is Australia... [IMG]

Anyways I'll probably book this in the next few days I think, looking forward to Thredbo [IMG]

    Thanks Donza [IMG]

The location is gold, both for night and day. Arvo Drinks at the Denman downstairs bar (a flight of stairs and a wee walk up from Thredbo hotel) after skiing is epic..
The reason I mentioned the toyota a wee while back was you get cheap lift tickets at Thredbo if you own a toyota..

    Nice pics!

I don't care about wind/fog/rain I ski in all of it

The +1 is pretty good too, not much of a princess so she comes out in most conditions, she just doesn't like knee deep snow as she (and I) can't ski in that well yet [IMG]

Will enquire as to the hotel discount, but generally the rack rates at much higher than the "deal" rates with free breaky and that anyways.

    Yeah
It used to be 50% off at Rydges, that was grand
but the points, if accrued from last year are grand
I worked out it cost me something like 75 bucks a day.

Wow Donza! you've eaten often at the Bistro but go back for more??

You must have drank a lot before chowing down each time.

Locked in for a week from 28 August.

Planning on a couple of camping trips as well - we make the call on Friday mornings after reviewing the weather.
