Oh, sorry Victoria. Don't mean to make you feel inferior... most vert on offer there in one run would be no more than... 320m?

How recent are those photos VSG?

Or did you just post them to rub snow in the wounds?

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

Actually Thredbo vertical is 621m according to Wikiski - which would be Karels to Friday Flat.

To convert to OS standards, that's 2037 ft.

And those are not current pics - at the end of the week it will look better than that! [IMG]

wikiski is wrong, the vert is 672m

    Karels is 2037m
    FF is 1365m
    = 672m

skied thredbo today, spring like conditions after heavy rain last night , very soft , needs a drop in temps to freeze & for guns to fire. Needs a good grooming, chopped up bad. Windy gusts come & go with hard bean bag balls falling on and off, no wind or snow atm. looking out window & waiting for the snow. [IMG]

Still snowing nicely with wind coming from the west, poor visibility looking up mountain , didnt notice any groomers working down low however its nice to see all lower areas now covered in snow. Im heading down midnight tonight for Thursday and Friday skiing, can't wait!

I have the following skis to choose from: Volkl mantra, K2 Hellbents (120mm fat) and Line park skis.

I'm seriously contemplating taking the hellbents!

neslot, take your fats, I wish I had some with me, plenty of boot deep around. Even lower down black runs like little beauty had powder boot deep, watched some guys with fats just fly past ripping it up, it was harder work in the chopped up sections on skinnys imo. Also at different times today some nice big fat flakes were dropping. [IMG] NSW to win would top off a great day [IMG]

I wish I had a camera. Pretty friggin nice today. Bushranger and surrounds, The Bowl, when it turned out we were nearly first to realise the lift was going, outstanding. Snow is a bit moist, IMO, but great. Bring the fats, I am going for day number three on the twins tomorrow.

Tomorrow could be epic, IMO. Pray for Tbars. A little bit of drool came out and froze, as I looked up Micheals Mistake. I havent checked my pants yet.

I hit it first up (but not first chairs), and it was meh. Some crust, and firm bits. Later it was fun, a bit heavy. Trees were the go, and bowls. Typical wind style.

Unlike yesterday, Dream Run was meh today. A friend hit Schuss, and reckoned it was great, I might look at it tomorrow, looked a bit thin, and following him has made me poo myself before.

    Amazing.

Was not air light powder, but soft and deep, and wow.

The whole mountain will be open Saturday, if not tomorrow.

    Wow, just wow.

P.S. Ran into Tele Whippet, and got a face shot right in front of him on the Bluff. [IMG]

Nice wind stashes, and the groomers were fun today. I was a bit tired after yesterday, and peeps started turning up, so I left at about 12. Blue, sunny, snow everywhere, and thanks to the wind, still some tracks to be had.

Its going to be nuts this w/e I imagine, I wonder how many people will be there. Really great start.

I have specifically not skied OS, so that Thredbo has the best skiing in the world, for me.

    Why wreck that?

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

Today was a little bit interesting but good overall,
Lots of windblown to be found over the mountain, with even a decent amount on Supertrail/High Noon, that is if you could stand the wind,
There were some very good spots of windblown, but I would hate to give them away for tomorrow, and other days during the week

Little bit of snow this after noon, hopefully we get 10cm overnight but 5cm is probably more realistic,

High noon was in great condition today, I ventured over to merritts for a coffee and the strong wind was whipping any loose snow off into stanleys leaving a very firm base that wasn't particularly pleasant.

Wiamia looked good but I didn't make it up there, early season legs restricted my output....

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

Just got back from a snowy week at TBO staying at The Alpine Hotel
Quiet for school hols, the week got better and better with the dumpage, typical July winds, lovely skiing, small queues.
Yesterday the windblown off Eagle way, Exhibition, Antons, Waimea and the Bowl was just lovely, but lower down on the rollovers it was becoming a little bit scoured but still great till the bottom. High Noon was virtually deserted yesterday and as good as it gets.
Bumped into telecrag on The Bluff where we shared head plants in the low vis, windblown deep stuff on Thursday and caught up with him, Filthy Phil and friends briefly at the pub that evening. Nice to put a face to a name.
The whole resort is open, the village is picture postcard stuff.
The knee was only goodish for parallels and the occasional lame rightwards tele but still smiling to have had it so good.

Hey guys, did a search and couldn't find the answer I was after, and this seems like the most active/appropriate place for it. Sorry if it isn't

Wheres the best place to get hire gear in Jindabyne? I might have scored a work trip close enough to try get a few sneaky days of snowboarding in next week / the week after at Thredbo.

retsej - take your pick from about 20 different places in the old town centre and nuggets crossing. SMS at Jindabyne (first shop ground level in Old Town centre at Jindy next to Banjo Patterson pub) have good gear at good rates and are good people. Alternatively you can hire at thredbo itself (which is good if you need to change/swap gear mid trip).

retsej, also depends on what your budget is.

I'd strongly recommend Time2ride, - first group of shops on the left as you drive into town.

they provide high quality, new rentals and great service

The thredbo report says it's some of the best riding in over a decade ... any truth to that statement??

I was down there last August a couple of days after the 1m+ storm, is it better than that?

No not better than the 1m storm - but pretty damn close especially for July! I was there for that, and there Thursday Friday last week.

Probably best period as it;s lasted longer than the 1m storm...

Very good day skiing if you could brave the wind and knew where to ski,

Sweens, any chance of resizing that photo? I'll need to get a larger monitor otherwise.

Re: Thredbo 2011 Reports & Pics Thread

Its my last week of freedom, so even though I know its busy, here I am. Got on about 2.30, after chasing someone down, to bring up some Liberty's for me to demo tomorrow (woot). Skiing was pretty damn good. Bit of damp snow coming down, apparently the wind dropped as I arrived.

Poor ski patrol, there are so many gumbies, skiing runs they cant handle, its ridiculous. Saw some beginners slowly making a shaky way down Schuss, at least they were in control. The carparks are full, its packed.

Telecrag, definately agree with your comment about the gumbies skiing down runs they just shouldn't be doing, and it is not only the general public, the ski instructors are taking little kids down runs that they definately shouldn't be skiing down, the Glades being a prime example with all the moguls which have formed on it, and little 5 year olds doing snowplow down them, poor decisions by the ski instructors, but despite all the cars in the car parks no lift lines on some lifts, if you can brave the cold
