Just back from another awesome weekend. Sat was easily the best day I have ever had at thredbo, just maybe I've seen better snow but as I couldn't ski I didn't enjoy it. I skied places I have never ever skied, I didn't think you could. Today was nice but warm. Cover is terrific

Awesome weekend, friend used GPS tracker and recorded 32km.

Exhibition was awesome early, trek'd out to Stanleys before lunch; found some steep deep untouched stashes.. and the bluff was dry windblown from midday onwards.

    Map of sunday:

Also first time i've ski'd the lower section of funnelweb, it's always closed!

Wow big bruise TC. It would be something similar to the Blue Cow Masters program. Skills improvement with an eye to gates. My long term goal is for a Telemark Classic Race to be held in Australia.

    Nice colour TC.

Got something similar on the Rover Chalet rope tow on the BHP a couple of weeks back.

Twice hit the top wheel and faceplanted in the soft snow. Belt buckle thankfully released both times.

    Tarred and feathered :-(

Just don't make your kids tele, especially if they are 8 and already scared they can't keep up! You know who you are, and Angus is still a champ, even on too long tele's in chopped up crud and funnel web moguls

    Re: Thredbo 2012

Children shouldn't ski downhill skis as training heels only make them soft and the skis should be at least 205cm anything less is for girly men

If I wasn't such a girly man half alpine skier myself I would be teaching the kids to Tele on leather boots, 3 pin bindings and edgeless 215cm pattern base skis like how real men with hairy legs like Telecrag learnt from his hairy-legged father

And none of zis learning at Friday Flat any longer....all lessons vill be conducted in zee Golf Course Bowl, Little Austria or Vatsons Crrrrags !!!

I vill be checking for bruises also, as if you come back wizout a bruise you havent skied hard enough or crashed sufficiently so the pain reminds you vhat a girly man you are for crashing in zee first place!!!

Just to prove what happens when you ski downhill instead of tele I have included a photo of my girly man bruise

Seriously though, Cranky Pants always complains initially regardless of what he's on skis, push bike, surfboard, kayak etc

I think we skied Funnel Web on Saturday when he was on girly man skis anyway

Wouldn't matter what M was on she could ski on two old fence palings with Dunlop Volleys nailed to them down any run... any resort

    Re: Thredbo 2012

Rehijack. What if I can talk Thredbo into doing a tele masters? I also know someone crazy enough (maybe) to fund/sponsor a proper race in the future.

Do you get a free ticket at Perisher TP? Doing it there would cost me an extra $1700 for the season, and I dont usually hang out on w/e's, but if we got the numbers for a tele masters I would more seriously consider it. Good value I must say, $100 a day for high level tuition is excellent.

Can Thredbo do better? Would TP consider it if I could wangle?

I really like the idea of a proper event, more tele!!!!

    Stuck on day 52.

Shoulder pain and the knock to the head has been depressing.

    Haven't skied for a week.

Having a psychopath constantly trying to pick a fight isn't making it any easier to get back into it either.

Remember skiing at Buller on Melb Cup Day after a good season.

Mind you, only Bourke St was open but it was still great to get out there and practice the turns.

Skied Cardrona late Oct in 2008; they were keeping it open for the school hols bless 'em.

I skied Blue Lake on 6 December one year, might have been '04.

I wonder if it is worth it, obviously trying to get some school horrorday luvin, but closing w/e is like a ghost town, with only a few lifts at best. I really like it, opening and closing are two w/es I try to be there.

And I want info on psycho too, its not spaz is it? I always thought of him as more your lover not a fighter. A woman? Your mother??

    Not really.

I'm a soft target, so It's a bit scary and has me on edge.

Been having a fight or flight reaction for a couple of days now. Got really mad a poor women this morning for an insignificant parking thing at the supermarket and when she politely tried to to ask me to calm down I told her to fo. I wasn't yelling, but it was really rude.

The fear will subside. I just need to wait.

    It'll pass.

Still mean, he's 8 and he hasn't got tele, his instructor wasn't really helping much. He's not that cranky , what his first run on teles in s long while straight into the ungroomed of karels? At least I waited for him, and I didn't push him of a cornice either. He's a good kid

Had a never ever on Friday flat the other day and what a mess the Easy Does It is , an instructor with about 8 kiddies lost control and the lifties were not looking as three drifted out in front of the chair , just grabbed them in time, then at the top three youngsters , about 9 or 10 perhaps , fall of the unload , the lifites were not looking as two slide away and the third stands up just as the chair swings around to take his head off , just ducked in time , but again the young lifties were too busy with girl / boy interaction if you know what i mean , not good enough , they should have the best most attentive lifties on that lift .

I hear Thredbo has extended the season but I cannot find any details on their web site.

In particular I am interested in which lifts they expect to run in the final weeks, conditions permitting of course.

Just got back last night from a week at Thredbo. I've never stayed there during winter, and now I'm hooked. Oh, those long runs (for Oz) [IMG]

Yesterday morning (Friday) was a cracker. Sure made up for Thursdays rain, which I spent all day in. Oh well, at least there were no lift queues on Thursday. Wednesdays wind hold morning made for an interesting advanced skiers group lesson. I must admit, skiing on one ski on Friday Flat isn't an easy thing to do.

From the Kosi Express, the top third of the Supertrail (or what ever the run is on skiers left) was brilliant yesterday. 100m down from the top (from the Hutte), the visibility was good and the wind blown snow formed a velvet blanket 5-7cm deep. All the way down to the top of the race track. Superb conditions.

    [IMG] Agree.
I am a High Noon girl normally, but the lure of the Kosi side with all this fresh snow, and the wind blown traps that are there....woah nelly!!!

    Re: Thredbo 2012

Got back last night from a weekend at Thredbo with the family.

Saturday - nice snow, vile weather.

Sunday - gorgeous spring day. Down low was good early, getting soft by late morning and pretty slushy by mid-afternoon. The middle levels were great once they got a little sun and the icy surface softened into hero snow, but shaded areas like the left of Little Beauty and True blue stayed pretty icy well into the day and anything that copped a lot of traffic was getting a bit soft. We did two runs off Antons around 2.30 and went back down - most of the way down to the traverse it was icy and chunky, really not at all nice, and the whole of Central Spur looked much the same.

So in short, down low was too soft after about 11, up high was too hard even late in the day, and in the middle it was just right till mid-afternoon.

Daughter (age 13) was complaining of sore legs so we got her an 8.30 1-hour private lesson to straighten out some technique issues. She got lucky and Ken Spain was available - I've had lessons with Ken before and I can't speak highly enough of him. She went from aches and pains and holding us up to disappearing into the distance and whining about having to wait for us.

We saw 9 cops either patrolling or taking photos on the way down on Friday afternoon/evening and about another 4 on the way home last night, and about 5 of those were in the process of booking people. There were probably quite a few that we didn't see as well.

That's a lot of Cops. Guess they haven't made their quota for the season and it sounds like they were gunning for it over this past weekend.
Was there one sitting at the bottom of Penderlea Hill on the Alpine Way? He almost got me, cheeky bugger.
When I went down from Syd to Jindy / Perisher back on the 18th/19th August weekend there were loads on the way down mainly on the Monaro stretch between Canberra & Cooma and on the way back on the Sunday there were plenty on that same stretch, but after Canberra - none. And everyone was blazing up the Hume doing 130+

    Re: Thredbo 2012

Anybody care to make a prediction of what will be left (lifts and runs) in 2 weeks time when NSW school holidays start?

I am itching to make a booking but they are non refundable so just not quite sure yet.

    (I won't hold you accountable!).
