Given this season has been nothing short of outstanding your chances are good that cover will be decent. It will be your best bet in years. However, what happens between now and then will play a huge part.

Is that the one where the 100 zone kicks in at the bottom of the hill (heading back towards Sydney)? If so, nope. None after Cooma in fact.

Thanks for the pic Gareth.

Re your links to the resort propaganda, don't you think that ordinary users can find it for themselves?

(I'm on an exxy wireless broadband plan while in the country, and every electron is charged individually).

Unsubbing now.

Hey Gareth I would not have seen this if you had not posted it here.

So very pleased to see some good results for the local kids.

Go Thomas! Skied interschools in moguls team withm my son this and last year. Definitely not a moguls skier but very, very talented.

Go Adam - at school with 2nd son.

Just got back last night from a long weekend at Thredbo. Friday was great snow but ugly weather. Saturday similar, against the forecast of clearing conditions. Major fail in the morning at the Kosi chair - it didn't open on time (predicted 9:30-ish and pushed everyone across to Snowgums which was ugly crowded). We headed across to Gunbarrell via Merrits chair and found some nice drifts on high noon and uncrowded Merrits.

Sunday saw perfect weather and suprisingly few lines up at the Basin early. After a few runs, we did the car drop off-switcheroo. Back to Thredbo, up to Karels, exit stage right and off to to Dead Horse Gap. See video below. Snow conditions were sunbaked corn, but mostly untracked.

Monday morning was good fresh groomers everywhere and didn't get tracked out til late morning.

Its a good way to record the season as a whole
And this is definitely a season to remember
I don't think thredbo will have access to archives of the report so it means we now have it here at ski.com.au

Re: Thredbo 2012

Just back, I love spring. Sleep in, hit the magic hour, well two at least on the groomers, poke around the place a bit. Blue skies, no wind today, perfect for those crazy mofos on the Big Air, that is seriously sick. The skiing is pretty much normal for spring, variable off piste, some days it will corn up, some days no. Even found some milo corn. Had a tele with a friend Ken yesterday, and took some shots. TP, good luck next week, whatever happens I will be both happy and sad, fantastic opp for whoever gets it, wish I was likely to be around to see, I reckon its peas in a pod with you two.

Off the side of Karels
[img:left][IMG][/img]

Booted up, well Ken did, buggered if I was going to on that snow.
[img:left][IMG][/img]
[img:left][IMG][/img]

[img:left][IMG][/img]

Then we headed off and skied the top of GC, which was horrible, we traversed out. Some other friends went all the way, with a casualty.

WooHoo!!

Sourmash, great vid!

ive not done that run before. out of curiosity, how long does top to bottom take, how much walking, and how easy is it to get lost?

Re: Thredbo 2012

I went with a friend who has done a lot of hiking in the Snowy's and knows the area well. Top to bottom was about an hour, but we weren't checking maps or GPS points etc. There were I think four walks, the longest about 10 minutes, but hard going as the snow was over knee deep in some areas (I'm sure it would be easier/quicker on skis). I think it would be easy to get lost which would result in a steep walk out of a gully or entering dense tree areas if you're not sure of the route. I wish I had a hand held GPS with me to record the track.

Here is a map of the area showing the run and earlier ones on-piste at Thredbo to the right (you can see the Basin T-bar and Quad lift in purple) - thanks to the Alpine Replay app. The run also shows some recording while in the car along the road on the way back - set a new speed record ;-)

Great day today.

Weather was nice, and the snow is holding up better than I expected. Slush down low to varying degrees, but terrific skiing to be had at higher elevations. Had an absolute hoot in the park next to Merritts, and we ate the very last hot dogs to be cooked at black sallees for 2012 (special order).

Bring on 2013.

Headed to Thredbo on Sunday and WOW is the short version

Mid September, rain and a few warm days and I was not expecting much but I was really very happy with what was on offer

Woke up about 8ish, in Jindy to this view from Horizons
Looked warm with the high cloud about
[IMG]

A nice breakfast was a nice way to start the day
[IMG]

Went into Jindy for a coffee and a quick visit to the shops for a DEAL
[IMG]

Not much on sale, not even this jacket for $1695 in Larry Adler
[IMG]

Arrive in Thredbo day car-park about 10:30ish... the day car-park was not even 1/2 full so we knew it was going to be a great day. The Perisher carpark was overflowing on Saturday!

Straight up Gunbarrel Express (very very quiet) and across to The Cruiser, again no line at all.

Went down to boardercross course which was a ton of fun and in pretty good condition

Then down to the park near the Easy Rider T-Bar. Spent a good few hours in here playing around and getting used to small jumps and boxes etc.

Was an epic late morning and then stopped for a light snack in Merritts Mountain Cafe. Never having been in here before I was very impressed. It looks crap from the outside but inside is very impressive. Great range of food!

This guy, epic helmet, GREAT skier!

Headed across The Traverse towards Antons/Sponors and took Sponars to the top, the snow to the bottom of Sponars was great, soft but not slushy! Everything above this looked and skied great!

Did a lap down High Noon, and being around 1pm it was very soft but not slushy! There was no-one around and it was a nice run, back to the top and then across to Black Sallees via Sponars

Was informed it was the last day at Black Sallees as the Snowgum Double was closing today (Monday 17th)

Talked the lovely staff into cooking us the last hot dogs of 2012 which are the best hot dogs I have EVER had!

Heading out down Bushranger and onto Antons the liftie was nearly asleep! Snow looked so great, still at about 3pm around here and was upsetting that we didn't have MOAR time to ski [IMG]

Took the cruiser traverse but went across to far so skied down Waimea bowl but due to low snow Dreamrun was closed, so a very sad "last ski" was had down Valley View to to get the Merrits Chairlift down...

WOW - Never been so concerned about being on a chairlift in my life. Between hanging onto the skis, poles and sitting back as far as possible in the chair, was very happy to get off the chair at the Creek Station and have a "final ski" for 2012 towards Friday FLAT

So season 2012 is over, 2 days at Thredbo and loved both of them! Thredbo is a great mountain, but I did ski it in a great season so in a more average season my impression may be a little less positive. That being said, you could easily spend days playing around Sponars/Anton "bowls", in the trees around the top 1/2 of Snowgums Double etc etc

Didn't manage to get to Eagles nest for lunch or ski anywhere up that way!

9 months til 2013 [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Skiing at Thredbo now completes skiing every major resort in Australia (not that it's a big claim to fame)

Rating resorts for me, from best to worst (1 being best)

1. Thredbo
2. Perisher

I think I like your report skidown, but my poor old puter is struggling with all the pics, and I see only some [IMG]

I really do need a new one, this one only has a Lion I think, these days you need a leopard, or cougar or moggie or something.

Glad you enjoyed the hill, you need to stay in the village next year. And I would be up for showing you around a bit too, have a few sneaky little lines about the place. Will have to work harder on the food side though, I see an interest there.

Great report!

I haven't seen thredbo looking this good at this time of the year for a long time ... lots of snow this year.

It will be interesting to see how long the snow stays out on the range this summer, guess it depends on the rain and wind!

Great report Skidown.

I am heading down for 4 days from Saturday but cannot yet decide whether to stay at Thredbo or Perisher.

I'm religiously watching the snow cams and forecast rain.

I hope the cover hangs in for the next 7 days!

How is the lower super trail holding up?

Can you still manage to ski right down to the village, in some form, for a few days yet ?

A few patches of water skiing right in the village - I actually managed to get a litte bow wave happening as I charged through a particularly WET area.

Great doing another weekend with you chief [IMG]
