I expect he means they are running that stupid hydraulic mid station that requires them to run at the speed of a fixed grip chair instead of a detachable.

when it was installed they should have had two detachable mid stations at the positions of the original mid stations from the old chair.

No, they actually slow it down outside of ski season. It takes longer to get to the top. During winter when it runs at full speed I think it takes about 7-8 minutes. Outside winter it takes about 10-12 minutes. You can feel it even without checking riding time. Outside winter it's a scenic chair lift after all.

Sweet day. Freshies off the side of the basin, the supertrail down to the intersection with the catrack from sponars, sponars top to bottom and antons to below HN terrain park. Left a smiley on HN, Ps punters cheap skiing in the basin - no gate.

    Lift price at Thredbo now:
    1 day = 30,
    2 days = 40.
Not sure about 3 days, but I think it's something like 45.

It would want to be for just one T bar, when that other place has still so many lifts.

Looks like people are having fun at Thredbo Top. More people for snowplay today than all week days together, but not overcrowded. Everyone had smiles on their face.

There is more than enough snow for beginners and lower intermediate to have fun and practice their turns in Basin area. 650 metres run might be short by Thredbo standard, but I can assure you that the beginners don't think so. It's long enough to burn their legs.

If you're capable of doing it, you can hike up to the top of Rim run and have selections of fresh snow routes. If you're really keen, top of Karels all the way down to base of Basin along The Tors is do-able -- many people do the Rim run and a few do the Tors.

Best of all the ticket price is rediculously cheap:
    1 day = $30,
    2 days = $40,
not sure about 3 days, but I think it's something like $45!

My gosh The Bluff! Can I have a lift around this area pleaseeeeee?

A couple of years ago Thredbos approach was do or die .the snow makers saved the season with some solid efforts in marginal conditions .they made snow well after perishes snow makers had packed their bags .mega jumps for mega sponsors seem to have plenty of supporters including hard hitters on the forums that quickly smash anyone who dares to question now. I love Thredbo but. Maybe no one cared and the punters didn't appreciate the effort .its ashame .for me it was one of the things that set Thredbo apart .

Kiter sorry I think you're talking outta your arse. Thredbo has been burdened by aspect, altitude and wind direction this season. No lack of intent. Thredbo has received at least 100 cm less snow than perisher this season

Up until a few years ago I had not skied Thredbo for 10+ years, having discovered the uncrowded Mt Blue Cow when it opened in 1987 and stuck with that side when Perisher absorbed it.

Then in school holidays September 2010 I got lured to Thredbo with a late season bargain price stay + lifts package at the Alpine Hotel and had a great time. Returned again in school holidays September 2012 with an even better deal.

Was very impressed both times with the effort Thredbo put into keeping everything going as long as possible whereas in past years I had been caught late season by Perisher closing major parts of the field at no notice.

This year it wasn't to be at Thredbo, maybe it was the season, not sure about whether they could have made more snow earlier.

Didn't notice any bargain prices either but given the evaporating snow I didn't go looking either.

Am surprised how little lasted at Thredbo compared to Perisher this year.

It wasn't that they didn't make snow, they made heaps but all snow they made got washed away by rain. Oopssss I just said a prohibited word!

Fair bit of northerly this year, warm and wet, and only dumped once at lower elevations. IMO snowmaking was hampered by humidity, and quite often temperature. Pretty sure the stats will show much less snow made than usual.

In the end there will be only two. (Sean Connery accent)

Hey gimp, I have had a few days touring inbounds some seasons, it can be really cruisey and fun, and kinda spooky. Remember one year I came back over to Basin after a 'tour', and Fro asks, where ya been? Oh over there I said vaguely pointing towards Antons. Pretty good eh, he says. Going off the skidoo and ski tracks they had quite a session too. Powder Bowl was epic.

There are times we get a late dump, and peeps are like, why isnt it open? But all the staff are gone, and only a few pro patrollers left, its just not possible. If you want that, then I suggest paying a few mil for a ticket, pretty sure they might be able to do something for you then.

It was cool yesterday with nobody around except for the dude walking HN looking for shrap and other lost goodies, does quite well by the sounds of it. Sponars was sensational.touring around perisher/bluecow isn't to bad either, especially with the extra manmade on runs like accelerator. Currently sitting in car park at perishers tossing up whether to go and mix it with rabble

    Snowed heavily this morning.

After an hour of skiing in snow we were covered with ice and really wet and cold hands so we decided to take a break and had something warm at Eagles Nest Restaurant -- although ice cream on top of the pancakes wasn't warm the pancakes tasted really nice.

Who would have thought that just minutes after heavy snow stopped the sky would turn blue!

As soon as the sky was clear, more tourists started to arrive at the Top Station again.

And some downloaded back to the village.

Oh hey! I found a mysterious structure at the top of Thredbo!!!

My winter holiday at Thredbo Resort for 2013 season has come to an end. In total, 57 days of skiing and snowboarding plus 30 ski lessons. I have had really great times. Always happy, everyday. There are no other words to describe it apart from "I love Thredbo!"

Thank you very much to everyone involved.

Many thanks to all the instructors who taught me how to ski and snowboard. Without them I'd still be a complete idiot.

Many thanks to the mountain crews. I highly appreciate your efforts to keep the mountain open in this very very tough season.

Many thanks to the ski patrol team for keeping us all safe. Special thank to the one particular ski patrol who helped retrieve my ski from the rocks when I tumbled of the top of the Bluff in bullet-proof-surface, icy condition -- also thanks to my helmet my skull wasn't cracked when I hit my head with a rock.

Sure enough, many thanks to all the very very very friendly lifties who always had smiles on their faces and made me feel very welcomed every time I approached the lifts, especially Sally and TJ who I got to know since 2012 season.

Last but not least, many thanks to Thredbo marketing, reporter and social media teams who keep us updated with all the important stuff about Thredbo.

Now it's time for me to download the stunning Kosciuszko Express lift and say good bye to its winter service.

See you guys again next winter guys... or perhaps this summer [IMG]

    "Thredbo I like it"

Still their best slogan I reckon, from the 1980's when they advertised heavily on 2MMM especially in the Doug Mulray show.

Great report, actually great many reports and pictures, thanks Dos.

You should check out Facebook and YouTube for plenty of Mulray memories.

One I haven't ever heard again is the Thredbo ad the year they introduced snow making........

"You've heard of Top Gun, now comes Snow Gun"

Hey Dos, i've enjoyed all your posts and pics.

I'm a little envious of your season, when we typically only get a week or so each year.

i agree with you though - I love Thredbo and it holds a special place in my heart

So Squatters' Run used to be a T-Bar line. No wonder it's so narrow.

After skimming through many many years of Richard's report, I realised that 2013 season wasn't THAT bad compared to previous years. I think most people think it was really bad because 2012 happened to be quite good.

I think it probably was THAT bad. If not bad, then very very short.

At SIC - last weekend of July - there was a lot of terrain that wasn't open. After that weekend my bases are pretty trashed. The snow was so shallow on parts of the Supertrail that the groomers were bringing rocks up to the surface from the edges of the mountain biking tracks. There were rocks poking through at the top of Antons that I've never seen before.

5 1/2 weeks later I was planning to take the family for the first full weekend of September - normally a pretty safe time in terms of getting snow. We bailed because most of the mountain was mud. Our friends who _did_ go ended up travelling to Perisher every day for their skiing.

From what I read, August had some good snow here and there but that's a hell of a short season.

I'm pretty sure Lovers Leap didn't open at all. I may be wrong but I don't think Dream Run opened either. And for most of September the Basin has been about it.

It may not have been 1982 or 2006, but from the one trip I did make and the one I didn't, it was a pretty poor season.

I don't think it was "that" bad at Perisher.

Thredbo was very low tide all season it seemed.

    Thredbo was crap this year
    Perisher was very good

Gotta love it when peeps abandon shreddas for perished. Did the opposite years ago and would never go back, except on freebies
