Spent morning lapping Basin with my kids (8 and 6). First time serious ski with them.

After putting them through about 20 days of lessons in last year it was a great experience and looking forward to future years. Especially as it seems the better they get the less kids there are per lesson and more they get out of it.

The basin was great snow again. Worthy of repeats.

ST was slush from Kareela down.

Worst I ever skied was Top to Kareela. You couldn't even get to Middle.

I had just bought a new car or I wouldn't have gone.

Does anyone know what go is heading BC from Thredders without a pass, can you buy a sightseers ticket just to ride once up the chair?

Yes, sure can. I think you can get one to top of Kozzie chair, and another type to access the Basin tee's for one ride as well.

Well well another interesting day. Wrapped up with my first flare run (under a full moon no less). Fun.

Low light was having to make a complaint about a ski instructor looking after <3 Thredboland.

He managed to leave one stuck behind a door so the poor kid broke out in hysterics (rescued by someone else - the instructor wasn't even aware he lost one).

He was then saying (more yelling) to the poor kid you need to stop crying or you mum and dad won't pick you up. Poor form.

At this point my wife intervened and was bluntly told to butt out.

It carried on for a while and the other instructor did nothing. Didn't intervene or console the kid. At that point my wife decided she wanted to make a complaint (she is a legend on these things) about it so asked his name. He refused and flipped his named tag, and then tried to say it was my wife who was making the poor kid upset.

The other instructor also refused to name him (but gave hers).

In the end we followed the douche out and reported the incident (in front of him) to the supervisor.

She also went up to the other instructor and called her pathetic for refusing to name him.

    .
    .
    .

Prior to that had also had a private lesson for my kids. They had a great instructor which confirmed what we had long suspected that Thredboland / Freeriders is terrible about putting them at the right level.

eg the day before my son had had a Freeriders lesson and the feed back was he was almost level 5. After this the instructor was he is level 6, and poles would help enormously. Same sought of thing with my daughter (every time I say a level they put her back one ... grrrr).

    Still great Spring skiing!!!

I didn't have good memories of my son in Thredboland. Too many kids per instructor and very little instructing per child.

Pretty much our experience too / same with Freeriders. But I think when you get more advanced the numbers are better.

Yesterday's lessons were interesting (one in Freeriders and one in Thredboland). As it is later in the season I think the instructors seemed to be better (when I saw them on Mt) compared with the August Peak.

I put that down to laying off the less experienced as the numbers drop.

Certainly my son in what was meant to be a level four and skied the whole Mt incld Sponars which the book says they don't normally go until much later.

Next year some decisions to make. May start with Private for them and then place in ski school.

Maybe its due to the instructors that are left now. Mid July my girls (6 and 8) had great instructors at Thredboland and Freeriders level 6 respectively. One day the 6yo only had 3 kids in the class and the 8yo had about 8 in hers. Got really good and accurate feedback each day on how they were progressing.

I'd say it's worse in peak season. I found the instructors they had on Friday better than mid August and they seemed to learn more.

But I think once you hit level 5 and above (especially level 6) the numbers do drop off considerably in the class and based on my understanding the instructors have to be a higher standard. Hence winning all round.

No complaints ever in 9 years of kid lessons. 11 yrs and skis a fast as the adults but prefers Freeriders . I've never even seen a kid treated badly. Only issue was at 3 had her skiing laps of FF ...told them ,then noticed her standing on the beginners mound sobbing in frustration. Pulled her out ,told them..apologised ...sorted.

Mine likes it. Her complaint is they don't do enough skiing. At 6 now she'll soon be in Freeriders, which will be an improvement

Mid-August when we were there it was closed and the odd other times I checked the website it wasn't open. There was a huge brown patch at the bottom. It's got snowmaking but they didn't seem to be using it.

Shame - it's one of the best runs on the mountain.

Unfortunately the rain kept destroying the base down low. I know that the last time I skied it we stuck to skiers right because it was patchy at the bottom. I understand that the humidity this year made it very difficult to make snow.

The top 100 or so metres were skiing quite nicely just then, with maybe 10cm of squeak on top, fresh tracks to be had. But glue from about Sponars Rock down.

Did one last run down HN

I should say mine like it too. The 5 year olds complaint (6 next week - eek) is similar but that is because she knows her brother is off trying other terrain.

By the time she hits Freeriders though...

My daughter has loved Thredboland and now Freeriders and we haven't had an issue once.

This year has been great as she is level 7 now so only had two or three in a lesson and as other said taken all over the mountain.

@telecrag i too took my new babies down highnoon for a last run, I'm still apologising to them....

I do believe that today was possibly my last day for 2016.
Never say never as a small miracle may occur this week.
    This season in summary:
I rode more rainy days than I have in years. I actually started enjoying the rain, some days the snow was great in the rain.
I had some great powder days, still my favourite powder day was in June, down skiers left of HN.
I have escaped injury as have my children, the hubby is another story.
I cherish all the great conversations on the chairlifts, friendly smiles and new friends among old to ride with.
Until next time Thredbo. More great memories.

Gunbarrel done, so a mixing at first chairs. No fisticuffs, just banter. Did one down ST, then headed to Sponars, which was exceptional. Fresh cord for so many runs.

If you haven't seen this bloke, you need to get up earlier! He is on the discount ticket next season, and still rips

Went for a few runs on Exhibition this morning and yesterday morning, damp, bad vis today, but it is still groomed flat, no rocks on the main run and a nice slick smooth surface. Pretty good considering the atmospheric conditions, and funnily enough you could fire a machine gun up there and not hit anyone.

After climberman left for warmer surroundings, telecrag and myself decided to go for the traditional end of season adventure ski tour.
All was looking tickety boo with pots of gold luring us down.

The Bluff was funky and deserted

    Cannonball was primo

True Blue was a good challenge

And Little Beauty was high end adventure tele-skiing at its best and most dangerous.
