Aaah bless the little patch
Found the new thread. Excellent..... Heading down to Thredders 18th/19th Feb for a Lodge working party. Can't wait for the mountain air again!
Take Aeroguard, lots and LOTS of aeroguard. the march flies up there are carrying small daggers and occasional bayonettes.
Not enough DEET. Go the bushmans.
Anyone heading Northern Hemisphere shoul clip on some skis/board and go for a quick slide there before travelling North, and then claim a slide in both northern and southern hemispheres within days
40% deet is available in bushmans and aerogaurd.
They both work identically well in aerosol form. Aerogaurd smells better.
Anything less than 40% and you gonna get stabbed, repeatedly.
And don't wear blue, especially the classic denim blue.
My ex-wife & I once skied every month in the Oz season from June to October. Then we drove down to Perisher in November to collect our skis, and took the opportunity to have a short XC run at Charlottes in November. We flew to the US in December and skied in December and January. We had skied every month from June to January.
They don't make wives like they used to.
Ive skied every month in OZ, except Feb (missed that year bugger it) March and April, though only missed April because of work. One year I skied 7 months here! @Townsend has a story about skiing the 12.
Isn't DEET basically Agent Orange? It works but always worry about that stuff....
Agent Orange was a defoliant. You would want to be carrying a significant personal jungle for Agent Orange to have any effect on mosquitoes. In fact, f your personal jungle was that significant, the odd mozzie would be the least of your problems.
Yes. Right you are. Did hear it was used in Vietnam...got confused. Thought the active ingredient was linked to birth defects....??
There is no doubt that DEET is pretty brutal stuff. But it works.
40% is safe for use. It's only a deterrent to insects. Not kill them.
60% works too but burns the skin in cracks and folds.
I've been soaking in it for years and i'm fine? Debateable. I'm not burnt. Or stabbed.
Picaridin and deet are the only 2 options. Picaridin is the weak ones that don't do much.
Deet is the only option for marchies.
Yep. Intolerable otherwise.
Is this what they mean by fly fishing or fishing for flies!?
Tie some wool to tippet. Much cheaper when learning to cast than snapping off flies.
Lovely day on the hill wth @telecrag and his Canberra mates, who are all a gazillion times betterer than this little brown old dog.
Ribs are complaining after binning it on the All Mtn trail
New - old bike c/- telecrag - awesome
As the author of this story and a man privvy to our reader stats, you won't believe how many people clicked this. Hint: lots!
Was there much traffic from twitter shares.
Some, yeah. But as a general rule, Twitter is dwarfed by Facebook shares. Just checked the stats on this story and yep, was 98% to 2% FB to Twitter on social referrals
Cheers @Richard fyi ^
yep, nothing compares to FB for shares. I see this constantly in my real job. Occasionally a publisher might luck a Reddit homepage link or feature in a massive sub-reddit which will smash FB for a day (and ends up feeding into FB anyway) - but that's just a crap-shoot.
Whoa, hang on a minute.
You have a 'real' job??!!
Yep, the one that pays is the real one. Certainly that's the reality according to +1. Every now and then you might notice I'm not here for a few days at a time.
River Inn booked for 4th-5th August. Anyone stayed there before ?
Can be pretty ordinary apparently but two nights only be ok. Black Bear and Candlelight cheaper than 1078 and even the Alpine hotel only a bit more ...and at the bottom of ST .
Yeah Not that fussed for just a weekend. I always take earplugs to somewhere new.
Tour or resort w\e ?
Bit of both hopefully.
Yes, used to, but found apartments to be better for us as the kids got older.
If you can get a room upstairs and away from the stairs that would be a bonus. It can get a bit noisy near the stairs late at night and if you have a family with heavy footed little ones staying above you, it can get a bit annoying as well.
Other than those aspects, we always enjoyed our stays there. The meals are good and the location is perfect for getting out on the snow in the morning, especially if you have little kids who don't want to carry anything. Cheers
Edit: just saw your comment about ear plugs. Good.
Thanks for the stairs tip. Will call them
Yep- plenty of times. That's the Lawski weekend, are you heading down for that? 350+ lawyers and partners descending upon Thredbo 3rd-6th Aug. Something to note (and seperate from the Lawski events) be prepared for a big uni bar style style party on the River Inn deck on the Saturday from approx 1-5:30pm where 300+ Oz Snow tour guests meet for schnapps, steins, live music and dancing on tables... Most of them leave at 5:30 though to head to Jindabyne so you will have the deck back then.. Also the Oz Snow tour group arrive at the River Inn after 12am on the Thu, Fri and Mon nights, expect noisey corridors at that time if room is nearby to theirs..
Hard to beat walking out the door and onto the Gunbarrel though!!
Fat old guy rode Thredbo yesterday
S,f,s,f? <Gone over my head on that one..? Haha
It's too rude to tell.
No lawyer stuff for me. Schnapps sound good though.
Some stirring of stoke in the New Turns household. Thredbo booking confirmed for a two week bloc in July and another week in late September. Better get out for a run!
I start with rolling off couch first, then move to walking to car, then progress from there.
Photo looks like a Ramshead day.
Fancy seeing the Myth Busters guy down there.
