As a Thredbo newbie myself and Vic interloper, I have fallen in love with the place. 22 ski and 14 MTB days over the past 8 months and back on Monday! Thredbo now sits beside my big love for Hotham and Buller*. Hope you enjoy yourself Jellybeans like our family has.

    *when buller is on.

Pretty fun, tight, they seem to have watered it, so a bit primo. We started doing DH/Flow combo laps. GB running tomorrow, with the wind that could be good.

I don't drink at the moment :). There was plenty of beer flowing to the rest of the family, and some crazy people drinking a whole jug of beer .
I would love to try MTB, but only have one full day here, so I've gotta have to make Kosicuiszko. Where are you based in Vic? We drove from Melb, one hell of a drive, we couldn't do it very often.

Thredbo seems to have a lot of vert, way out doing Buller. But of course you probably don't see a whole lot of snow at the bottom. Probably not ideal for beginners, except the Friday flat too. I'm tied to Buller (we have two properties, decades old parking passes, season passes, etc), but sometime in the next few year I should make time to ski this place. But I'd probably just stay here as a springboard to the Main Range, that's the thing Buller doesn't have. Everything else is pretty comparable all seasons wise, apart from the vert, and the steep village(not exactly the biggest fan of that).

Coming from West Gippsland, approx 7hrs via Cann River. Easy drive just got to watch for animals. Definitely skis different to Buller, can't match it's steeps however the wind blown up top seems to be a advantage we don't get in Victoria. Just make sure you do Golf Course Bowl when it's on once in your life.

Near Leongatha? We drove via Tom Groggin, a bit hairy and sketchy, but mostly fine (except for the stupid people who thought driving their caravan along that road was a good idea)

Windblown at Buller is easy to find if you know where to look. Give me a PM for tips(I'm definitely not allowed to tell the secret stashes though). When I give Thredbo a try, I will have a look in the Golf Course Bowl (hopefully when it's on). The pictures in winter on here will eventually get too hard to resist ;)

Actually a quick question for Thredbo regulars - does anyone know a place that sells SD cards in the village? Thanks.

    [QUOTE="Jellybeans1000, post: 3540824,

Windblown at Buller is easy to find if you know where to look.

I was more referring to the snow blowing off the main range, days after a dump as being different from the Victorian skiing experience. As for windblown secret pockets on a powder day, not talking either.

Ive never needed one but I’d try the newsagent / pharmacy, there is also the gift shop in the village and the ticket shop at the base of VT sells lots of weird stuff to cover things left behind.

Nice crisp start to the day looking out from the balcony. Decamped from the farm up to the lodge for a couple of nights with visitors from up North-too much beer was had. Plenty of people about this weekend.

Saw that as we were going down the Kosi express. The walkers queue was very large. Glad we got basically first lifts.

I think they run the lift a bit slower outside winter, but the queues on the Crackenback Chair on Easter mornings are longer than the queues in peak season.

We saw the queue for walkers trying to get lift passes and just decided to walk the Merritts Nature Walk instead. Only an hour extra to the trip. The good part was you just catch the lift back down free of charge.

Lazy day with the family around the village. Weather could not have been scripted better for the Easter break. So many people enjoying all on offer around the mountain. Thredbo must have smashed their financial targets for the weekend? Black Bear Inn for dinner tonight.

Adventure weekend in Kosci, started with a hike up to horse camp hut with the kids, watched the full moon rise over the mountains which was nice.

Then over to Thredbo for a days climbing, started with ropes then tried a few boulder problems but the wind got to us.

Easter bunny still found the kids

    Climbing with the little man

Left Thredbo earlier today(for Canberra), looked very busy on Friday Flat with those easter egg hunters. The place grew on me over the course of my visit, the village actually feels like a village. I heard about the winter bus, that makes things make so much more sense. I liked the bike culture, and the fact that kids were let off the leash a fair bit riding around in the village. Can't imagine how nice it would look in winter. The only real issue I see is the lower half's altitude, but am guessing that can be overcome for a period over most winters. Next visit will definitely be in winter.

Here are a few of my photos from Kosi, some edited and some not

To be honest if you think of the last 100m as access trails (not ski runs), the mentality shifts, from the machinery shed down, the snow can be a little “meh” and yeah if you treat it as a run it’s no fun, but, as you just skied a few km of steeps, treat it like an access trail and you enjoy.

Personal family anecdote warning. We skied with the daughter at Thredbo when she was about 5. Those access trails scared her so much that she refused to return to Thredbo for years until forced by Interschools. So many out of control dickheads skiing too fast in not enough room. Mileage may vary.

That's the way they look at it with the lower runs at Buller. TBH I don't mind rockhopping that much. Just when you have lots of people narrowed into one little strip of snow, that would not be fun at all, a little dangerous.

Snow making and rockered skis = fun.
TBH, the lower slopes are good if you want them to be, if you’re precious then you’ll always be coming complaining.
On on good day, Thredbo is as good as any (better than anything in Oz) on a bad day you can always find fun, unless you’re precious.
