electricity & melting ice ... good combination.

i would never have thought it would be cold enough to plan for daytime ice carving in the village in June. I would have thought night would be a better time. The person who planned that obviously has a great deal of optimism.
But then again we have had a warmer start to the winter, so maybe the idea was good and was just let down by the weather

At uni we used to sacrifice a set of skis each year to the god of snow, (good excuse for bombfire and grog)

No skis, but I sacrificed an old outdoors mag to the cause

Edit:- 20 years on and still a good excuse

The largest man made patch of snow I found...

The blessing of the snow was well attended and a nice service.
(That’s real snow too, from up top. Not man made)

    The Meadows very bare...

Kareela Hutte is where the natural snow line started...

The snow behind the Basin T-bar was a bit thin...

But the Basin itself seemed quite skiable in parts...

I just don't get the connection between this so called 'God' and amount of snow. Show me a correlation graph, the harder the geezus crowd pray the better the snow, fing bs.

Its a gambit, to lure the unwary into the house of god, where they then have to repent, and become born again. Don't go in!

Okay, the Flexipass has been released and surprise, surprise they have gone up again. $399. Didn't bother with the $20 price rise this year and went straight to $40 which works out at $ 99.75 a day. The value is slip, slipping away.....

Yes we have seen the religious zealots up in KNP they come to get closer to god they tell me!

It's the 1,800 to 2,000 contour that brings them up closer to the creator ...well that's what they tell me!
But far be it from Team Bears to question their wisdom....

Ok yes I’m a sad snow tragic

I have on my computer display the High Noon live webcam and I watched as the sun slowly set, the village darkened and all the lights came on LOL

You can see the cars driving along the Alpine Way

What’s the consensus on how quickly they will open the mountain up with the forecasted snowfalls plus snowmaking?
I’m probably going to come up Sunday through Wednesday. Was thinking merrits side plus supertrail will get opened by then....
Hopefully get days 5-9 on the 365

Jane's current Thredbo forecast is for about 100 cm over the next week at 1800 m which would be nice. Strong winds though. I would guess you will have Merrits plus High Noon with Snowgums a chance. The high winds could leave Eagle Way as "Evil Way" - gravel held in place by ice and perhaps the fastest way to depreciate the value of new skis ever invented.

On radio today christian farmers talking of praying for rain. I just don't get it. If you believe God is up there with control of the weather, then why are you talking to the carnt that hasn't given you any rain for six months and sending you broke?

    Talk about a conflicted arrangement.

Bugger. I'm a weekend and school holidays person this year due to school committments. But in a couple of weeks workload looks to drop away so i may manage to do some solo midweek trips.

Bit the bullet and bet $216 on accommodation for the weekend in Jindi couple of days ago. Half-backscratchers out of action after putting MTB brake lever through inside of thigh and required 7 sutures on Sunday. So Ms Half-backscratchers and I will be there and hopefully some areas will open. Looking forward to first turns for the year and with luck posting some great observations.

Looking at kicking off not this weekend but next, followed by a complex pattern of random weekends determined by no. 1 and no. 2 non skiing commitments.
