I am pretty much a Perisher die hard but this system looks to be perfect for Thredbo. Apart from wind scouring at the top, Thredbo should have great riding top to bottom this weekend as temps are looking good for low level snow and snow making.
If they have the will and staff to open i shall be there.

These systems are perfect for everywhere!

I missed skiing early after May 2000 dump. Didn't have the resources to get down. Not this time round. +1 and blowette have been told we are going.

No guns running. Thredbo doesn't seem to be as motivated as Falls, Perisher and Buller.

The May 2000 dump was incredible. Even more so that the resort opened Merrits and High Noon pretty much just for staff to get their ski legs back for two weeks before the long weekend. They were the happiest of days. I remember driving back from Canberra as it started after a couple of days camping down at Mimosa Rocks and it was snowing on and off all the way home from the ACT and then ALL the way from East Jindy up the hill D:

Well the Bottom currently looks like this.
Plus 4 more days of it predicted.
The tops look even better, but it's only the start of the season.

I cant see snow being made anywhere on the mountain . Is there a reason for this . The temps seem right ?

They were making snow on High Noon and up in the Cruiser until about 6:30am this morning. It looked like it was getting blown out of the resort boundaries and wasn't being very useful.

Good job at marketing snow making - I watched it all. Decent composition on many shots with light effect.

You need a nice, clear, cold and still night for the snowmaking to actually land on the runs. Unfortunately that often doesn't happen in the Australian Alps. They try their best and often do a very good job despite the prevailing conditions. The wind looks very strong atm, so not the best snowmaking conditions.

    4 day Flexi Pass - $480.
Mountain Collective pass, with Thredbo as main area - $449, 3 days at Thredbo and 2 each at a whole bunch of other places.

Even ignoring the other areas, the mountain collective pass is cheaper than the Flexi Pass after 6 days :emoji_astonished:

This is what people seem to forget about the mountain collective pass - the 50% off ticket window prices once the included days are exhausted makes it cost effective for people who miss out on the cheap season passes who want to ski for around 10 days per year.

Our friend went with this option last year as it was the most cost effective option based on the number of days he was able to do. The only downside was that he wasn’t able to buy and preload days on his Thredbo RFID card online in conjunction with his mountain collective pass (50% off day tickets) and so had to continually line up at the ticket window which was less than ideal.

He was able to preload days (50% off price) at the ticket window thankfully but would have been better if he was able to do it online as he wasted many a magic hour. Not sure if they will have changed this for the current season or not.

Same thing at Telluride a couple of years back. My Thredbo season pass with Mountain Collective benefits meant lining up each morning to buy a day pass at 50% of the walk-up rate. Seems an odd-and-inconvenient approach, no doubt dictated by system constraints across a variety of resorts, but it's annoying nonetheless. Even at 50% it ended up at USD$64.50 per day.

Remember, the sooner you get to the bottom, the sooner you can get back in that lift queue. Sometimes you don't even have to go to the bottom - it'll meet you halfway!

Mountain collective is in USD (now). AUD just over $700, I know, I just bought one. And the 3 day at one resort was also a bonus which has now gone.

Just joking.....but the best run at thedbo is to get as high as you can behind merrits or antons and find your own way to the valley.awesome.

So I just had a look at the Flexipass prices. Yikes! Not exactly a bargain. $480 for a 4 day/anyday pass - that’s still $120 per day, apparently a saving of $116 compared with 4 single day tickets. One can only wonder about day ticket prices this year. How does this compare with mates rates? I have a few mates who ski Thredbo with season passes, don’t I? ;)

This is the first time the prices have actually made me consider a trip down. Peak season day passes must now be around the $140 mark - the Thredbo website doesn't seem to post the 2019 standard lift prices anymore - probably for this exact reason.

Throw in a 5.5 hr drive from Sydney, lift queues etc etc it makes you second think.

Interestingly I also noticed that this year it now costs $20 to get the half day lift access prior to your 5 of 7 starting day. Unless I am mistaken, all other years it didn't cost anything and we were able to pick up gear and get a few hrs skiing in on the Sunday afternoon before starting 5 of 7 on Monday morning.
