Maybe you could stop insinuating that there is a problem with the usage stats of thredbo.

They don't run on a demographic quota system and such a system would suck.

People can ski wherever they want and your not welcome to suggest thredbo needs to force us to balance the male/female ratios to appease you.

Mine did school skiing at Perisher and 2/3 of interschools events are held there. Certainly influenced my decision on season passes.

Do a scan of posts on here and I think you will see a trend - parents are looking for resorts which cater well for kids and those resorts get the family visits, examples I have seen in the last couple of days:
Poster travelling from Victoria to NSW ski fields as needs a resort which has group lessons for 3 and 4 year old snowboarders.
Poster enquiring about the quality of the Thredbo vrs Perisher kids development squads in order to choose where to buy season passes for next year.
Many posts about where to find English speaking ski and snowboard lessons in Japan.

As a parent - yes the experience that my son has on holidays (not just snow holidays but all holidays) matters to me. If he is happy, enthusiastic and well catered for then it is just so much easier for everyone to have a good time. So while the kids don't have the final say I think it is fair to say that in a lot of cases (including mine) the kids needs do influence these decisions but if you do not take the needs, wants and preferences of your children into account when making these sorts of choices well, to each their own.

They run it in September and Sept is not a busy month of the season no matter what the conditions. We've had some amazing Septembers in Thredbo - best of snow depth and quality and also weather (much like today really) - and we had the resort to ourselves because all of Sydney were heading to Noosa in the school hols, not the snow. To run these events in September is a big drawcard for international comps to fill up the resort in off peak.

Here we go again...A is offended by something and calls B out, B is offended that A would think that about them, and C, D & E all join in to denigrate B to ensure they don’t get tarred with the same brush. It’s a competition to see who is offended the most. C’mon guys we should be better than that.

Let’s get back to what was actually said, not what others have read into it. Annabuzzy said he thought it was a (likely unsuccessful) marketing tool aimed at teenage boys.

Not that females don’t ride park.

Not that females can’t ride park.

Not that males were better at riding park.

He made an observation that Thredbo might be marketing to young males. Nothing more nothing less.

I spent most of the first week in August lapping Antons and Michael's Mistake. In that week I saw probably a dozen people on the jumps. None of them were female. It would have to have been the least-used part of the entire mountain (except maybe the Golf Course). Not an opinion, just an observation.

But these new features are not just jumps. The jumps are/were also very weather dependant.

Apparently Hollywood markets to teenage boys because they spend the most. Hence the endless superhero sequels.
Caveat: I'm sure there are plenty of girls who like superhero movies. In less enlightened times, it would have been their boyfriends paying for them anyway.
Further caveat: I'm sure there are plenty of girls who are perfectly happy without boyfriends.

All these people getting offended are causing me to take offence.

This thread is about how good Thredbo is when I am there, and how terrible the conditions are when I’m not there

The ISS will be passing directly over thredbo from the sw to ne between 6:13 and 6:20 this evening.

This viewing event is specifically for young males. Females and old people are please requested not to attend. You'll just complain anyway.

I'm a pretty good example of this.
I don't snowboard, I generally don't do parks, I don't know who any of the pro snowboarders in thredbo for the event are. I should have no interest in this event whatsoever.
    Except I am interested.
Personally I think the whole thing is a great idea, and not just because I think the park looks like an artwork. It's somehow managed to get me intrigued, imagine what it'll do for people who actually snowboard.

Hats off to Thredbo for that setup! Sensational. Can only hope it’s a huge success so we can get some similar setups in vic! Crew will put in the effort to go from down south, I know two that will be road tripping for it this weekend ;)

And then he turned around and got upset when someone suggested that today's teenagers are tomorrow's parents/dollars coming into the resort and said they sounded like a marketing advert. He really should just quit while he's ahead instead of digging that hole deeper and deeper. As evidenced today.

    Thanks I'll look it up.

The Mini Shred park was actually a miniature version of Holy Bowly too; after the top features was a bowl and transitions all the way down. My daughter liked that part better than the jump at the top!

I think that the Holy Bowly looks very cool and would love to give it a try! and I HATE terrain parks. Its a very cool set up and honestly, I was thinking to myself maybe next year I will go down in the Holy Bowly week to check it out. Even my mother was highly impressed and she most certainly does not fit in category of teenage boy. It might just be my circle, but I only personally know female park rats. None of my male friends go in the parks, but that obviously isn't reflective of the general populace. Teenage boys would love that park, but like many others said they aren't the only ones.

Oh and the kids 100% influence where their parents ski. I know families who stay in Perisher due to lodge association and catch the SkiTube down and drive to Thredbo EVERY DAY because their precious kids don't like Perisher. Don't underestimate the overprivledge of the children that live in the Eastern Suburbs and Lower North Shore of Sydney and their influence over their parents. It's sad but it does happen.

Now should I slap my own hand and tell myself to stay on topic because its a conditions and trip reports thread??:out:

Are you just inventing what I said? Imagining my emotional state?

I’m really pretty calm, just pissed off at the sexism suggestion.

I’m entitled to my view. I think I’m probably right. You don’t. So be it. What’s kind of interesting though, and you see it all the time on these forums, is intolerance for a different view.

IThink the money spent on parks might be wasted? Clearly you’re uncreative, sexist and upset.

I happen to think kids like skiing regardless of man built features. And I think they’ll come skiing as adults whether there are man built features or not. The biggest issue for 20 somethings is cost, not terrain parks.

So if Thredbo cleared the full World Cup run and set it up for a down hill race would we call that marketing? Wasted money?

Thredbo are building a terrain park / feature for an event, I’d call this giving back to the sport! We can’t hold international down hill races but we can hold a world class slope style event so why not! Lots of pros spend winter in Aus, so get them together before they head home makes sense and you get a great event.

Let’s face it these are the events we stand a chance to win medals at so why not give Aussie talent a home event? FWIW a lot of the kids ski programs are structured around alternative winter events.

And yes I am sure there are marketing benefits for hosting these events.

If the interest shown here in Holy Bowly is anything to go by, it's a marketing success. Not quite as successful as Deathbarrel which got it own thread, but a couple pages isn't to shabby.

I'm a member of the "Dig my quiver" snowboarding group on Facebook - I have seen at least three posts from group members who have flown from the USA to Thredbo specifically for Holy Bowly, so the reach isn't to be underestimated.

That goes close to the quintessential photo of skiing in Australia. The incline, the eucalypts, the tableland and the colour of the sky. The admin people have just found a new front page photo.

WTF are you on? WTF has sexism got to do with absolutely anything about an opinion on a snowsports park? Read back through the posts, you're picking on the wrong person. You think I'm uncreative? My whole career is people paying me for my creativity (not that that has absolutely ANYTHING to do with an opinion on a snowsports park). You've lost the plot mate and you should be hanging your head in shame that you even allow someone ELSE to pay for you to come and spout this crap, you don't even have the balls to pay for it yourself. And now... you're blocked. I'm here for conversation about Thredbo, not people banging on and on and on for the sake of it

    Back on track.

Looking forward to today's on snow reports. The weather is magnificent here in NE Vic and friends are sending pics of Buller. I'm so keen to just jump in the car and GO but alas... I'm usually the person that advocates this sort of behaviour but I have so much time off coming up between now and mid November I really can't justify it, even for these great conditions.

No no I meant no offence to you. The things i mentioned (uncreative, upset, sexist) are the things said about me in this thread, because I thought as I thought.

My apologies if you thought I was saying that about you.

Sorry desk jockeys but today was great fun! Supertrail was excellent. Had six terrific runs before it softened. The Ramsheads would be fantastic but unfortunately even this retired desk jockey has some responsibilities!
