Yesterday broke the rider number record.
One big one, but just went over to GB. You really would not have known, almost like a big skier, but full cover day. Over 600 bikes.
Somebody been using afterpay?
Needs more duck
Twas busy on Friday too, there was a queue at Avalanche.
It looked dry and dusty, like everywhere else in need of some rain not to mention the smoke.
On the back of the swan?
Yep. For the first time in 10 years I'm staying home for the holidays. It used to be a novelty. Ride in the morning, hang by the river all arvo. Maybe a couple day trips down or up over the valley.
Now it's just too hectic. Every kind of summer tourist.
Will be back Thredbo 17th Jan.
It is interesting that yesterday was such a big day as the bike queues didn’t seem to be anything like the queues over Easter. Whilst there are quite a few walkers to Kosczi there doesn’t seem to be as many as usual. It was stunning up there today!
Rode with s friend who works as an instructor (bike) so fairly consistently fast, but it's so dry you have to be a bit careful here and there. Had a mechanical issue, swapped bikes, had a mechanical issue... Good runs but.
Looks flat. Someone had to say it
How were the A lines?
There are three real A lines. lots of features that I am keen to explore, after we get a 59mm rain event, to set it up. But many riders wont see them, (there a probably lines I don't see) it's great design.
Very different today, that ain't cloud
So numpties like me will still be able to ride Ricochet without falling off a rock
How long are you there for?
And me Forget those Adult lines, I’m all for the Baby lines (courtesy of a small plough )
Not sure now, parks has just closed everything down, no evac as yet. But if we get through today it should be OK tomorrow
Alpine way is closed between Thredbo and Khancoban.
Park entry now. Grab those quiet laps while you can!
The parks website says all visitors must leave.
Bike Park Update ⚠️ The NPWS have closed the Kosciuszko National Park and as a precaution which means all MTB operations are now closed. I was thinking of riding charlottes to kosi tonight and summit on sunset.
People coming into Jindabyne having being told to evacuate Thredbo. Unconfirmed rumours of fire in Perisher/Charlottes areas.
Park is being evacuated.
There was a fire at CP a few days ago due to lightning.
No, this is a different report. Still rumour though from what I can tell.
It's the only one listed - thought I would have thought it should have been removed from the map by now.
Yeh that fire was done and dusted pretty quickly. I'm not hearing anything more of the new report so becoming doubtful about it's integrity. Nothing new has popped up on the RFS website map, keep an eye on it I guess.
Park has been closed as a precaution as there are too many people in there and not enough resources if anything was to flare up. Thredbo hasnt been evacuated, people are free to stay if they are already there. If you leave they wont let you back in unless you are a resident.
I'd be watching https://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/# as well.
Extremely smoky on the cams. Anyone in or near Thredbo, does it look like things will calm down soon?
Not at the moment as it has got much smokier in the last hour. There is also thunder starting. Fingers crossed that there is no lightning as everything is so dry
Current conditions, wind has died down. Can just see top of Kosi chair. Few drops of rain and bit of thunder.
Spoke to a reasonably important white haired KT boss couple of hrs ago, he seemed quietly confident MTB would be going again tomorrow. I have my doubts, loved to be proved wrong.
Edit. Nice drop of rain currently
Well that was short lived, smoke back with intensity, worst it's been all day. Wind has lifted a bit.
Surely the quietest New Years here for a while. Except for the music.
Happy New Year.
Can just see the top of the hill.
Been here a few days, but time to leave early. Too many fires too close and the options for the road out get less every day.
All the RFS site doesn’t show Vico fires and Vico isn’t that far away and a shite load burning down in Tom Groggin etc.
Fires Near Me NSW only shows statewide.
Fires Near Me shows Australia wide.
They only update periodically so only a guide. Under threat, the apps are to slow to be a realtime tool.
Set watchzones in the NSW app and listen to your local ABC Emergency Radio station.
The apps have been a bit slow with information as has the abc.
Npws have listed the park as closed until friday morning.
Thredbo is open to ride.
If you read all the kosi park alerts, it's a mess of contradictions administered by halfwits.
Isn’t Saturday supposed to be the next big challenge of a day?
Glad I didn't stay, and get the Americans to talk their way in. Would not want to ride in that.
Hopefully they can contain the TG fire before Saturday. Thinking about all my friends there. But confident of the crews ability to get through it if it does hit, they have a heap of very fit and capable people, a defensible position, with a heap of resources.
