Yeah, I'd guess that the week of fire danger closure, is actually less of an impact that the several week's worth of rainy days you'd normally expect to lose in a non-drought summer.

I've been checking the DA pages every now and again and not much is happening there. Presumably the Department is on holiday too.

Have the rains come to Thredbo yet?

Alpine DA's are 'major projects' and I *think* there's no advertising / comment period for major projects in the holiday/school holiday period.

The project manager would I mean should have programmed in time lost for rain.

Maybe, it depends on the contract conditions.

They probably would have programmed in how busy the resort should have been at this time of year and limited the work during that time period, so maybe they haven't lost much in the way of time.

They may have programmed a shutdown over Xmas/New Year anyway. A couple of local road projects have just sprung back to life this week, and it is fairly common.

Hey @ralphplough, contractually, what is a rain delay LOL

The team will have had the break off.
The program will be a dry program with a clause around rain delays I reckon.

Rain delays aren’t equivalent to rain days.

Someone pays for the risk. Either KT by granting EOT for rain delays, usually has to be proven to be affecting critical path to affect end date. Or, contractor took the risk and charged accordingly. Or some combo of both (a number of days allowed before EOT can be claimed).

Either way, unlikely to have been working through the two weeks of Xmas IMO.

Should be great production now though with less people around. With how dry it’s been they will need a lot of rain to really hurt the program.

yep, someone always pays for the risk; implicitly, explicitly, now, later, intentionally or otherwise.

Doppelmayr were on holiday break from 21/12/19 to 05/01/20. The resort closure extended that to the 13/01/20.

Probably the maintenance and construction arms operate quite separately. Lots of companies are setup this way.

that's the one above the road by the look of it? Wonder if they will have a crack at the deck over the existing car park this summer, seems to late for that to me.

I think after gunbarrel went chair shaped again last season replacing it has gone up the priority list.

that would seem strange as I thought the DA went in after Gunbarrel went down but maybe the various engineer reports etc have pushed the gunbarrel replacement up the queue.

would seem strange to throw money at a project then pull the pin, especially as the talk was that the event group had agreed to a significant spend, but maybe costs blew out on a few projects.

Interesting checking the DA’s there is the DA in for the parcel of land in Woodbridge that was sold, anyone with a spare $2mil May won’t to have a look.

and Bernti’s have put a DA in for a major upgrade massively increasing the bar, covering the parking and providing a large deck.

TP’s post suggested the talk is suspended indefinitely which would suggest pulling the pin, but deferral makes sense

this kind of makes sense to me, build the smaller extensions first and review the impact, and I can’t imagine it would have been easy or cheap.

The ugliness of multi storey concrete car parks will be hard to hide.

Over development has a tendency to ruin once charming places.

agree, I wonder if they could multi-storey the far end past the pond where all the service area is, kind of behind the hill as you enter, You wouldn’t see it and just have to extend the bus run.

Have a look at the carpark at Taronga Zoo. It has vertical wooden slats. Not perfect but a heck of a lot better than brutal concrete.

So is the Gunbarrel or Snowgums higher up on the priority list? Or are they both equal?

I think they'll worry about it once they rebuild Thredboland, replace snowgums and replace gunbarrel.

This also makes sense, I also wonder if it’s been put off until all the work is done as they don’t want to create issues for heavy machinery etc to move about or damage what’s been built.
