got an email offer today which I thought was worth sharing.

Typically, if you want Thredbo accommodation, its a 50% deposit now, then the 50% balance 1 month before your holiday.

They are currently running an offer that if you book before 20th November, you pay in 7- 8 monthly interest free payments.

Well it should be interest free, you dont get the goods until after you pay. Unless you are paying the instalments after your stay?

I was wondering this year, how many people gave up what amount of money in August, the place was relatively deserted. What amount do you get back if you cancel? Given that its usually full, and lodge operators I talked to were booked solid by the beginning of July, a huge amount of people cancelled.

Unfortunately you don't get all of your money back if you cancel. I have never cancelled so not sure how rigidly they are enforced but the cancellation fees range from 20% of the amount paid up to 100% if cancelled within 30 days.

I would imagine it would be all dependant upon how sucesful they are in re-letting the property.

On the plus side, payment by installments reduces the big hits typically associated with snow holidays. Kinda like puting your holiday on lay-by.

we cancelled one a while back because we changed dates, and got a different apartment as well.

Fortunately we cancelled early in the year, so the place re-let and we got all of our money back

I had to cancel a room in a 3 room booking a couple of years ago. Got charged a cancellation for the one we had to cancel, but it was only 10%.
    I expected it.

The offer is through http://www.thredbo.com , it seems commonplace for cancellation throughout all travel but there are also some great early bird offers to boot

We've completed our booking for next year. We would not normally book so far in advance but we need to make our long trip during the school holidays and didn't want to miss out on the chalets that can accommodate 4 families. The process was pretty painless and we now have 7 months to pay the balance in installments.

Has anyone else taken up this option?

We use too every year, but no longer though. Its a hard one that, book for certainty of fav accom choice or wait to see what conditions bring. We do the later know & try & jag a deal @ any resort.

when we do go, we always book well in advance, for two reasons:

1/ to guarantee our preferred (and limited) choice of accommodation, and
2/ to get 5 or more FF flights from Perth booked on the same flight
