Thredbo has extended the season pass early purchase date to June 2nd. They're still progressing as if the season will go ahead. It would be wonderful if they did but, I can't see it happening.
Are you asking a question Skull? If so I've not got any information on seasonal programs. Suffice to say if anyone has pre-purchased and the season doesn't go ahead Thredbo will contact you. No comment further than this. Presumably will roll over to 2021, If the resorts are not bankrupt by then.
No, I mean it is the same deal for the seasonal programs. Final payment date deferred. I got the email about it today
And at the end of May we will likely all get emails saying they’ve held our deposits over on 2021 Passes. Although it’d be awesome if we got a season, even if it came with rules.
My guess is that if the lifts run there will be limited services available - most of the eateries and the ski school would remain closed.
Can't see it happening. I guess we'll find out in the coming months but it's not looking promising. 2020 will be the year of backcountry. Will have to be.
Just limit to one person per chairlift and 1.5m rule in the lift lines. Sure the queues might be a few kilometres long....
That would be fookin shite. There're not really many skiable places that aren't in parks are there? I mean even the Brindies etc are National Park.
If you don't shut the parks, you'll still have Pelicans turning up to play in the snow etc. Which ... is kinda like Bondi... Hence.
lottery, x number of people allowed in per day for y scheduled hours, starting at z lift and keeping appropriate distancing. The tricky part would be any serious injuries that occur.
Actually probably easier to do at Perisher, allocate people to one particular part of the resort and lock out their cards for the rest.
It’s not the toboggan area that’s the issue, it’s the medical centre required to support a toboggan area. And word is medical centre’s are/will be busy or have no supplies or no staff.
Well Ski Patrol in the first instance... And then an ambo down the hill. Medical centre technically not required.
This is the toboggan areas we are talking about which is anywhere you can park a car & fall in the snow out of Jindy.
Same can be said for ski lift queues. Tough to keep a 1.5m social distance when people keep sliding into each other in the line.
Rapid infection progress through the population along with the imminent arrival of near instant pinprick tests for antibodies will produce enough staff and skiers who can be checked at the ticket box and have their pass validated. If you want to ski now is the time to get infected, if you're up for the gamble.
Actually if skiers just lined up skis end to end they would be close to 1.5m apart, but instead they insist on overlapping, not that it gets them onto the lift any faster
With NSW extending the lockdown for 90 days. Even if we were to come out of it until end of July I suspect that Perisher would have no staff and not be able to open anyway. Why would they take a financial hit for one month
From what I understand, Perisher pretty much run on company staff for the last couple of weeks of the season the folk who transition to maintenance in summer etc. I think they could scrape together something. I guess with the Mt Biking these days Thredbo should have a more permanent crew? Hard to know how many people are going to be able to hang around Jindy this winter on the off chance of something coming up though? The bigger question is, what it actually costs to get a resort ready to function. Probably difficult to justify for any shorter period of time.
I've cancelled my June and July accommodation as I doubt they will happen. Wonder if they only have a half season you get half money back for prepaid annual pass.
Thredbo emailed me yesterday to remind me that my accommodation balance was due on the 6 April and would I like to pay it now...(this is the first time they have contacted me since booking in Feb) They appear half optimistic that the season will kick off for the July school holidays.
At this rate I'm guessing they'll open either before school holidays (if they're keen) or following school holidays (if they're conservative). I'm expecting August will be open and starting to consider booking a week down there. Quite what the protocols are around distancing is another thing. Social distancing in the Apres Bar (for instance) just ain't gonna happen.
Can't see any chance of it happening for the school holidays unless they artificially keep numbers down by restricting lift passes sold etc. I would also assume that they will go airline style with middle seats unused on lifts etc. I too think August is a safe bet, booked it last week....
I believe they are still planning for 29 June although this may change if the virus second wave comes.
Well, New Zealand will be open for locals anyway. https://www.traveller.com.au/corona...ustralian-snow-season-remains-in-doubt-h1o1d9
Snowbest story. https://www.snowsbest.com/australian-ski-resorts-covid-patience/ I have August and September booked, have a private bathroom but shared kitchen so no idea if lodge will even be open.
They extended the final payment to 30 days prior to trip - 6 June. Thanks Thredbo! Gives us a little more time to make the final call (if they open), we are in self contained apartments, we have a couple of non-skiers so it is now mainly around social distancing in Friday Flat or Merritt’s so they can participate in the day’s
I haven't heard anything further of the seasonal program payments since the email on 24 March, that was final payment due 9 June. I am taking the no further notice as a sign that the program payments are continuing as last planned and there will be some kind of covid safe program arrangement for the kids.
I’m not seeing how the resorts can proceed to accept final payment on season passes while it remains unclear if there will be a season, and what it will look like if there is. I suspect the final payment date will have to be pushed back again
