Ski season extended after snowfalls
Posted Mon Oct 1, 2007 2:45pm AEST

New South Wales snow resorts will ignore the traditional end of the ski season tonight and stay open for at least another week.

Early forecasts for 2007 predicted a dismal snow season similar to last year.

But Susie Diver from Thredbo says the season was not as bad as expected.

"The season started off very solidly with some really good, early season snowfalls," she said.

"I suppose August was a little milder and we did have limited snow-making throughout August but we still managed to pump out enough to ensure that those that were here, were still having a really good time, and September's been quite good."

"Again it was a bit mild but all over we have had a really good season."

Ms Diver says unexpected snowfalls on Saturday night helped to improve conditions on the fields.

"Usually it wraps up on the Monday of the long weekend but there's quite a few people around from the New South Wales school holidays," she said.

"So with the snow on the ground we've had, there's still quite a good base up on the higher areas and running of the lift normally to access the range.

"We thought we'd run the extra (week), mainly suited to beginner and lower-intermediates and those really keen skiers and boarders wanting to put in some late, late season turns."

Thredbo's snow season continues...
Posted on: Sunday, 30 September 2007
Thredbo will keep the slopes open, as long as the snow conditions permit.

Thredbo will remain open as all other Australian resorts hang up their ski boots for the 2007 winter season.

Thredbo will be operating on a day-to-day basis with services offered for skiing and boarding as long as the snow conditions permit up until October 7th. The Basin will be the only area open, with access via the Kosciuszko Express.

Reduced lift pass pricing:

1 Day Adult $55
1 Day Child $30

2 Day Adult $105
2 Day Child $55

Snowing heavily yesterday and today. Excellent skiing on the whole mountain.
Raining hard and cold here in Christchurch right now.

Broken River will remain open until Sunday, and after that on weekends only for as long as people keep coming up.

I doubt that thredbo could make money keeping the resort open for an extra week. Not many people ski in the last week, and no one would have booked in for the last week.

There seems no point. The chairlift would be open anyway.

I skied Basin for free one year. Lifted. Thredbo were feeling generous.

Christian. if you read their press release carefully, you will see it is taken at Spencers Creek, about 12 k to the north and east. at around 1800m. Always is.

It's just another activity available at Thredbo now. The bobsled, golf course, tennis, Leisure Centre are all open as well. Gotta have something to do up there - it's a ghost town this time of year.

how does the grass survive on the golf course during winter?

I don't really know to be honest. I know that it takes a while for the course to really dry out once the weather warms up. Since they re-opened it you've had to use a tee for every shot (except putting of course) to prevent divits.
