I'm sure that most people living there would be aware but just in case here's a heads up that from Tuesday 17 April only digital television services will be available in Thredbo. This is in advance of the switch-off of analogue TV in Canberra, Wollongong, the South Coast, Central West and Riverina/MIA on 5 June.

The room at Eagles Nest holding the TV and radio transmitters was too small to accommodate the five analogue TV transmitters and five digital TV transmitters during the simulcast period, so the three commercial networks are doing a 'hot swap' of their transmitters next week. If you have a digital TV or set-top box you'll need to do a rescan on Tuesday to pick up WIN, Prime and Southern Cross Ten in addition to the ABC and SBS.

wow... you mean the station might actually get decent TV's these season! Not likely... they will probably just rip them all out.

so any rental accommodation with an analogue tv will all be rushing out to buy new tvs before the season starts?
Or they could go to Kmart and buy a high definition set top box for $25.

and if you are a pensioner you can claim that money back too!

Judging by the Thredbo FB and Twitter comments the switchover went smoothly. One thing that I will be grateful for is that the dodgy Prime TV analogue transmitter is gone and we won't get the TV signal dropping out at inconvenient moments like during the middle of a Wallabies v All Blacks rugby test.
