given its school holidays, the pics of Friday Flats, Kosci chairlift etc dont seem overly busy.

Any locals with prior comparative experience noticing any different?

I was there for 3 days last week. As it was the first time I have been during school holidays I can't comment whether it was any worse than previous years, but the lift lines at Kosci and Gunbarrel were worse than I was accustomed to. Typical wait times at Kosci were 20 minutes in the morning, with Gunbarrel about 15. The new gate system worked OK and did not seem to add any delay at all.

Merrits was crowded for food - the boys lined up for 30 minutes to buy chips and a drink. Cruiser was OK in the afternoon as the wind drove alot of people down the mountain. Basin T-Bar was a walk up start (again, windy conditions).

It did not seem crowded once you unloaded - plenty of open spaces on the slopes. The only congestion we experienced was due to the competition they were holding on World Cup which forced us into a very narrow and bumpy section to the side that created havoc with the punters (myself included). It was only really a problem though if you were trying to link to Sundowner off Supertrail.

As you say - crowded is better than none at all. It was busy, but then you gotta expect that.

last week would have been the busiest as it was school holidays for most states at the same time. Now it's only a couple.

no, only 5 travelling, but with 5 large bags, 5 snowboards and a week's groceries, the bus is still full.

(plus we can spread the kids out so less risk of world wars happening)

over the years at falls, I have observed that people tend to book based on last year's snow conditions [IMG]

I guess that NSW resorts see the same behaviour. school holidays last year were very poor snow, especially in the Vic hols and first week of NSW. So this translates into less school holiday bookings this year.

If you were trying to get to Sundowner and skier's left was closed for a race, that's the Rossignol Racecourse. World Cup is skier's right of Kareela Hutte and basically goes down under the Kosci chair to below the Meadows mid-station.

There were a few races on the Rossi course last week, with the Interschools comps and the Thredbo Junior Interclub championships.

Considering that it was last week of holidays and Sydney Region Interschools I thought the crowds were smaller than they have been in the past for Thredbo, probably because of the extent of terrain that was open. But if you planned your day well crowds were easily avoided, especially earlier on in the week when it was windy, as long as you were up high the crowds were pretty much non-existent, no queue on the Cruiser was even possible on some of the days which is pretty impressive considering it is school holidays. To be fair as the week progressed and the wind died down then the crowds did in crease again, but the T-Bars often had short or no queues as all, but the Kosi side of the mountains, at least the chairlifts were busy because of Interschools,

Like Sweens said, lots of terrain open so the crowds thinned out during the hols.

It's normally quiet after school holidays outside of weekends. I spent 4 hours looking for people to ride with yesterday.
Though uni week/s have started but that tends to be more nighttime activity.
