Ten years ago I would go for first lifts at The Kosi and get there at 8.20 something and stand around like every other punter not knowing anyone. Then I met a friend of a friend who said No must be there before 8am for First Chair.

Then I'm standing with a bunch of guys with the same problems as me.

Now I ski/party/commute from Sydney with them weekly.
We have similar Summer interests together, socialize.
Talk about Gear and purchase similar gear.

And travel the world with them.

We used to take up a row or two, now depending who's coming or going we can be three, four or more rows. We are competing amongst ourselves for first chair these days, and so the time we need to get there is getting earlier and earlier.
We are different skill/speeds and have partners amongst us so it's a social gathering of like minded people.
Come 8.40 at top station we lose each other. Fast skiers go wit fast, slower with slow.
We catch up at Black Sallees for early lunch tend to have a more social arvo.

Unless it's snowing of course. No stopping for friends.

Top to Bottom tomorrow so it will be a bit disjointed, but rise early on a weekend come introduce yourself(under the umbrellas) if you think you are a like minded person.

Had some skier and snowboarder desperate to be in front of us on the first lift last year in thredbo, they pushed in front of my daughter (11yrs) and then started dissing us? We just let it slide, we were one lift behind them anyway? Early morning groomed/hard packed Thredbo then when we saw the skier (girl) washing the tails of her skis out, and the snowboarder (male soft boots) couldn't carve butter with a hot knife, we just laughed. Some people have no idea of the look or the feel of a proper carve.

Same people are pretty much always first chair at Gunbarrel. I've never noticed 'tude myself and the snowboarder being a snowboarder you normally scoot past him up the top anyway.

I'll usually get there 8.25 a normal day and a bit earlier s powder day which will put you on the first handful of chairs. First 10 at worst. Half snowboarders.

Arived 7.45am this morning to the kosi hoping it would be a great fresh snow day.
Friends and punters arrived late due to rain, wind and the prospect of getting soaked.
Got dissed by some lady punk with Mt Buller jacket because I wasn't standing in my skis in the rain waiting for the lift to open. She tried to snake me for for chair and was very lippy. Happened on saturday to my buddy who stands at 2metres tall and another last week to another mate on first chair.

There's always some bloke hustling us, then backing off when they work out they won't win. Today some chick tries it on us.

Just a bit of added entertaiment for us.

We were just talking about this at the pub --- was thinking of putting my ice axe between the tele's as a subtle message at the GB.

Had a coffee with Annabuzzy at Friday Flat on Sunday morning and we noted that not only was there a queue at the Gunbarrel at 0815, there was also a queue for the Easy Does It chairlift. People were so keen for first tracks on the corduroy that they were wanting to get the jump on the instructors doing APSI L2 training.

There is nothing wrong with clicking out and waiting on the side, as long as you're in the vicinity and not running off to the cafe for breakfast. She should have been given the lip service back and taught the rules of lining up. Needs a bit of education.

there's a good pic of a lift queue in (i think) Cortina, Hakuba, where the queue is just a long line of abandoned skis.
