    After a week in London we arrived at 3:30 this afternoon.
    As we drove from Geneva, my family audibly gasped as we entered the valley.

    Clear and crisp here and about to go and sort ski hire.

    Pics and report to follow

    Welcome Toffs...
    And at just the right time - crowds have all but disappeared and the snow finally begins tomorrow.
    You may see the snow dogs out there....

    I think the GM tram is still being rebuilt, so might not be as awesome as normal right now. But even what is open is still pretty epic!

    @TOFF , pleeeeeeeeeaaaase tell me you are doing Vallee Blanche? Possibly the greatest ski run on earth.

    Awesome, needs more snow but it's still awesome. Make good use of the interconnecting buses to visit the various piste areas. Coffee at the aiguille du midi will literally take your breath away. Take the whole family.

    Just checked the forecast, and it looks like 2 days of snow with a high of -8 and a low of -17, and then blue skies for Thursday and the Vallee Blanche. I never thought I’d say this, but I really wish I was TOFF.

    Thursday's the day if you want fresh tracks.
    To get 'em, be there early.
    If on a multi day pass, book your car.

    Great stuff.
    Make sure to eat the classic meals;
    Tartiflette
    Raclette
    Fondue

    Don’t order them all on the same evening or your bowls may be blocked for a month and blood pressure be sky high!!!

    Hey Toff (here is a tip - one of many we could give):
    If you are going to ski La Tour / Vallorcine one day (only on a clear day as little tree line skiing) - do it like this.
    1. Catch the train from Cham to Vallorcine - beautiful way to travel and see the valley and train station is right at the V gondola;
    2. Book lunch at Alpage de Balme
    3. Have apero at Comptoir before hoping on the train back to Cham.
    Check train timetables as they only go once an hour.

    Also - we were up at the Midi on NYE. They hadn't roped the arrete yet - and it looked pretty sketchy to get down onto VB, and I think they are laddering out at the other end?

    Rain in town at the moment - should turn this afternoon. Been a long time since snow!

    Thanks, missed this last night so went to La Tour today, by bus.
    Skiing up high certainly had times when it was hard to see but others were fabulous.
    Skiing over to De Balme was gorgeous.
    Had a wonderful first day with it snowing pretty well late afternoon.

    Well, you've ****ing mozzed me.
    Went to the guide office and they will NOT do Vallee Blanche this week as the top bit is not safe.
    Have a long morning private for me and son 1 where I am told he will take us to some very good spots.

    Bummer - the only consolation will be that if hey don’t think it’s safe, it isn’t.
    And that any private will show you some great terrain.

    Gutted, but having recently lost someone in the mountains, it is a very good thing that they are being sensible with the conditions. You can always come back to Cham if you're breathing.

    From what I can tell (10k km away....) there's not enough snow on the lower glacier, in the previous weeks there was a snowfall that was rain to 2000m and that pretty much nixed all the low level snow in the area.
