Said that the the folks at Bumps counter today picking up skis after a base grind.
Able to elaborate?
And flogs like me sleeping in it.
later this year I might be in a position to say more.
But Hotham for sidecountry and snow with steep when rain at Buller.
We all know this.
The rest are a bit meh
Forgot the traverse mate, if you dont send it straight into the creek at least once a season are you even skiing?
Just like science, we're right, whether you believe it or not.
Publicly proclaiming that a certain lifestyle item is a waste of money merely confirms to the masses that you can't afford it and/or aren't interested in it. The masses in question don't care.
Why people feel the need to do this i'll never know.
I wouldn't call them masses, but I also don't care. Good luck to them!
You can agree with Buller die-hards or you could be wrong...
When it's no longer about the skiing, I'm out...
Different people enjoy skiing in different ways, and despite the amount of ways people on the forums try to tell you that you're doing it wrong, nobody has the right answer.
It is whatever works for you. I chose Buller, another may pick Hotham. Doesn't matter to me anymore, one less person on the mountain.
I think that’s wrong!
Your father smells of elderberries!!
Off topic - just after you were in Cham, that was on TV dubbed in French, but the French taunting scene was re-dubbed. Weird.
I think the more appropriate question is: If you're that loaded, why wouldn't you?!
If you're that loaded . . .
Different strokes. I'd do it in a heartbeat.
. . . After all, aside from proximity to apricot moguls, there would also be skiing.
Por que no los dos...
Well because there's no snow (albeit changing hopefully) and I've got nothing to do, I'll tell you why...
You instead buy $1.5m of property in Melbourne, choose location carefully, structure it properly. Say it's bought in cash because (as hinted at earlier in the thread) one's a baller. You should be able to get something that grows by 7% p.a.
So in the 1st year you're already up $105k and that's not even including rental income..
After 3y $337k etc
I'd imagine that buys a few nights at the Glacier suite and heli transfers from the 'rak...
Isn't the 1st thing you do when you're rich is get richer???
Man, you just don’t get it.
You can't ski fomr it with family and friends. This year in Sydney that'll lose you ~7% and incur land tax. And you can't ski from it. And, you need to sell it to realise those gains, and be subject to CGT. And you can't ski from it.
Pull out the equity with a line of credit, no need to sell. I know, I know it's not yours if you stay at Buller Chalet...
Plenty of buller property for $500k though, I had a quick look
I'll stay in my place at Buller most weekends from late July to September and do Interschools week. I'll catch up with old friends, maybe do a few turns if it's average and ski as hard as I can if it turns it on.
It owes me nothing and already has over $45K in rental bookings through AirBNB for the time I'm not there. If it dumps this week, I'll probably fill in a few more gaps. I estimate (based on last year) this year I'll net at least $35-40K after annual costs, rates, buying the kid's passes, etc.
That buys a pretty nice ski trip in Jan / Feb and I can ski in ski out at Buller (plus it's less than 50m to get donuts.......)
Shit, I might even go back to PNH in April as well
Cool story bro.
This thread has actually become a lot more amusing than I originally thought it could, so thanks for that Herm. If you cant understand why people would fork out $1.5m for an apartment at Buller, then I guess as Seth says, you just dont get it. I'm going to presume you went to one of the 'other' schools (note there's only 2 types of schools, APS and everyone else).
*cough* 3; AGS too *cough*
Mate there's 2 levels and AGS isnt in the APS level.
Level of what?
So cutely Melbourne.
Jesus Christ. I know Hodgey left your club but that should have improved the intelligence, not diminished it.
True. Does depend on where you live though.
I had a scholarship offer to an APS school and didn't take it up as it was too far from home.
That is a cool story bro. Almost as cool as not having to tell people I am trolling in this thread.
But it is true trolling.
Have you got your boy pre-enrolled at your old school already?
Here's another funny true story - I was enrolled at St Kevins from birth. Where the **** would I have skied if that had gone ahead?
Nope. The snotty little shit is going to have to work for it.
I like your parenting style.
Can’t afford APS
Certainly can’t afford OP
He would actually have 2 APS schools to choose from, does that double up the wanker?
He's gonna be on the train for a long time getting there from where you live.
You'd be better off sending him to that bong smoking teenage pregnancy haunt that my wife attended in Mt Eliza ....
You rightly point out that I don't get why folk would buy a $1.5m apt at Buller. Whatever the reason could be it's still a case of more dollars than sense to me. If to put the kids in race club then that's a lot of $$ to do it... If it's to say 'look how good I am' then I point to previous comments on how one could go bigger with that budget.
Respect @luvthabumps , because it appears they are genuinely passionate about the skiing.
For all the bluster in this thread, would any of those that have posted *actually* buy those $1.5m apartments?
Oh and to play along with Verm, when I was an interschools kid I used to beat the kids from those APS/AGS schools...
I bet that made you feel pretty good, huh?
Must've been after I was done with school ...
And @Mufts for that matter.
Thread needs moar tall poppy.
Yeah, why not if I could afford it and thought it would mean great times with the family.
Skiing in winter, mountain biking in summer. F'n awesome.
It's probably more important to own it so that you can tell people you own it, and then get them up there to drink expensive wine and whisky with a nice view.
They've all been cut.
MX says hi!
