Not real convinced this is a safety improvement. I deal with organising traffic management & the debriefings are scary with motorists not paying a lot of regard for worker safety.

I think its funny that they get rid of it on the high speed roads - the one where the risk and consequence is the highest.

It is ridiculous the lack of regard people show for vehicles on the side of the road. It scares me how many people will work right next toa line of cars travelling at 100km/hr in the dark with little regard for their own safety. I don't even pull over for a wee unless i can get about 10m off the road. Its scary out there.

I agree however i have seen what i feel as cops taking the piss with it.

There were two cops cars just sitting on the side of the road one weekend. with lights flashing. neither were out of their cars and it ****ed up the traffic for no reason. (then a bit further along was an RBT that stuffed the traffic, after the new cooma conga line...

Most people break when they see cops (ie they worry the are speeding) and the 40km rule was just as dangerous when people would slam on their brakes to compile.

Only to those not keeping a safe gap and not looking as far up the road as possible.

90% of traffic on that road then..Irony is, my understanding is that its mostly locals that actually have accidents, maybe frequency?

For those who use Google Maps for planning journeys, go and have a look at Cowra - in particular the two parks on the western side of the Lachlan River on either side of the Mid-Western Highway, the restrooms near McDonalds, the park on Taragala Street, the cafe at the railway station and the park on Campbell Street at Waugoola Creek on the eastern edge of town. Some Cowra locals have had an awful lot of fun trolling Google.

A great place to go for a curry by the sound of it. I'll let others discover the parks for themselves. :)

    Exactly

I had no dramas as I would read road conditions. But I did witness a number of steering wheel attendants who obviously only scanned 10m in front of them and tailgated other vehicles

Same people that can't understand why you slow down and establish a safe gap after you've overtaken them. Typically sitting outraged at the wheel while you plan your next overtake and son after left with noone to rage over. Then after being shown that overtaking is best done from well back, they reestablish 5m distance from the vehicle in front and don't ever attempt to overtake.

Dontcha wish there was some sort of competency test that had to be passed before city folks were permitted to drive on non-multilane roads?

Driving home from the snow yesterday I spotted a ewe and 2 lambs munching away at the roadside grass just north of Michelago, blissfully unaware of the 100km/hr traffic metres away. Hope they didn’t become lamb chops.

    Bump.

The Federal and ACT Governments have jointly announced the project for a flyover of the southbound carriageway of the Monaro Highway over Lanyon Drive at Hume. The project will also remove the traffic lights at the front of the AMC 'resort'. Construction will commence early next year. This replaces the original plan for Lanyon Drive to go over both carriageways of the Monaro Highway.
