    Hi there,

Planning a trip to Falls in August and really need some advice from others who have gone before. I'm tossing up flying into Albury airport and then getting a coach down to falls, but I can only seem to find one company that runs buses between albury and falls (pyles coches) and their only pickup on the day I fly in (a Sat) is at 1:50pm in the afternoon which is no good ( I fly in at 4:00pm).

Are there any other bus companies that operate on this route? I would have though with the high number of people in the area during peak season there would be more services than just one a day.

    Cheers,

Currawong probably knows more details but what you see is what you get, just not that many people that need to get to the mountain that can't drive...how many of you is there?

Where do you live? An alternative is to fly to Melbourne and get the bus from there. Alternatively change your flight to Sunday, I think there's a 5pm bus on Sunday

*************** runs buses from Wodonga on Saturdays and Sundays leaving Wodonga at 6:30-ish AM, but that's dependent on bookings. If you could change to the Friday, the departure times for the coaches would coincide with the arrival times for Virgin flights.

Thanks for your replies... I think I'll just fly into Melb and get the bus from there.. Seems like the best option. Coming from Perth, so thought maybe flying into Albury would save a little time compared with bussing from Melb city, but it looks like that's not the case.

    Cheers,

Bus leaves Melbourne Airport at 9.30am each day, except Sunday when it's 8.00am and 10.30am. There's an extra bus on Fridays at 4pm

Depending upon how many of you there are in the group Falls Creek Bus Company can run a minibus up for the group or there are a couple of private operators who run a limo shuttle.

Its $75 cheaper to grab the bus from Albury, but I imagine the flights would be more expensive to Albury instead of Melb?

The bus ride is 5hrs 20mins approx so they say, I imagine 1 stop somewhere. The convenience is the times as mentioned, 8.30am and 10.30am.

Rent a car at Albury or Melbourne airport, and you can drive up yourself. The bus fares are not cheap because they're fully privatised and not subsidised in any way unlike your usual country train or metro train. LC knows the roads and has driven upon many of them around Beechworth, Falls Creek, Hotham and Omeo. The drive from Albury to Falls is around a couple of hours.

Depending on how many in your party, getting a hire car will be considerably cheaper than using the bus from Melbourne, also I have found that flights from Perth don't connect at all well with the bus times from Melbourne airport.

Then the next decision is if you pay for 'snow cover' on the hire car or just park at Mt Beauty and bus up from there.

Europcar and Thrifty have reasonable snow cover options.

    Cheers for the replies,

Decided just to go bus from Melb. Connection isn't too bad and the last thing I'll feel like after a red-eye from perth on virgin is to drive for 4 hours.

    Can't wait!! I'm sooo stoked to get amongst it. Bloody flat Perth <img src="https://www.ski.com.au/xf/styles/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="\:\/" title="smirk" height="15" width="15" />
