First snowfall in the European alps yesterday and for the next few days. Still weighing up where I’ll go this year a lot will depend on my UK based family’s schedule and when they get time off work.

agreed Flaines terrain not as big as others but with lez carroz and samoens there is plenty to keep you occupied for a week or so, we went last jan for a week with family and doing it again this jan for a week- good deals to be had and quick transfers from Geneva a bonus. Flaine is a concrete jungle with limited apres but the villages further down are more pleasing on the eye. - enjoy

Off to Kaltenbach for a few weeks in January to train for Winter World Masters Games. Then a week of racing and skiing at WWMG on Patschkoferl.

Heading to Innsbruck for 2 days (5-7th Jan 2020). Most likely won't be skiing unfortunately. Any recommendations for sightseeing/things to do?

It's Europe so city info is organised. Check out the site for the Innsbruck Card for details on all local attractions.
The card bundles them all up into one pass. A non-skier with us did this in January while we skied.

But good ski areas are close and easy to get to: Stubai Glacier, Axamer Lizum, Kuhtai, Nordkette, etc

    https://www.innsbruck.info/en/sightseeing/innsbruck-card.html
To help you get the most out of your Innsbruck Card, we’ve put together a selection of suggestions for city explorers, nature lovers and culture enthusiasts. Numerous museums, the main attractions, lifts and cable cars up to the majestic Nordkette mountain range and other alpine hotspots, the use of public transport on all IVB routes, travel on Innsbruck’s hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus and travel on the numerous lifts and cable cars around Innsbruck – all free of charge with the Innsbruck Card.

First day on the snow card this season. A light dusting on the glacier meant the skiing above 2500m was ok but a surprising amount of crevasse holes poking through on/near the piste.

The French trains are available for booking, as of yesterday

No non stop trains between Bourg St Maurice and Paris except for 1 day in January

We have a nice non stop from paris airport to Bourg but the return adds 2 hours with a slower regional train and over 1 hour in Lyon

That’s a bugger, one of the most pleasant travel journeys I’ve ever had was TGV from Bourg to Gare du Lyon.

Not being doomsday, the Olympics are being held at a place with virtually no natural snow and will rely completely on snowmaking.

    Hey everyone!

This is really off-topic, but we have a team in a Program called X-culture. And in this Program we have an international team that takes on a real challenge in the business World. We took the the challenge from Lake Louise Ski Resort, which is located in Canada. We would appriciate if you filled this survey and helped us in this challenge!

'Tis the ski season for the Southern Alps. Booked Alagna for late Jan.
We really liked it this year even with low snow, saved by a dump as we arrived. Off-piste mecca.

For the Southern Alps the weather phenomena you're looking for is a Genoa low, aka retour d'est.

Cool. It’s now on my list.
We are fully bombed up for skiing/boarding. Have already taken my tape measure to the Renault dealer to make sure my skis fit. Had to deal with a pesky salesman annoying me though.

My friends are reporting depth of 1.3m at the top of Serre Che at 2800m. LDA also got a great dump so good start for southern alps as well. Absolutely great start for winter up high. I’m not in Europe until late Feb/early March as have Japan first but I’m still getting pumped about the early snowfall

This snowfall is not that unusual. At altitude that just happens each year.
ValT guaranties snow fron nov- may.

But we skiers get excited each year when the first real snowfall happens.:ski:
