and at the end of the day you'd just let them know, of course, that you were actually always ahead of them - you were just wearing your cloak of invisibility at the time.......... ;)

Lifties should chuck the unattended boards/skis out of the queue.

Except they're not unattended by and large. The owners are usually milling around nearby having an early morning social before the lift opens. If they've buggered off for a hot breakfast down the road, that's something else again, but from what I understand, that's mostly not the case. Start interfering with the gear and see how quickly an angry hoard descends on you.

But if you've left your gear there and wandered off, I don't think you've got any rights to complain if the lifty does a "roll call" of equipment owners a couple of minutes before he opens. At that point it's fair game for him to chuck stuff off to the side.

Went to Thredbo for the first time on Saturday 2 weeks ago. Found this incredibly strange, we joined the line at 8am behind about 20 sets of unattended skis and boards.

    Yeah righto.

If you pulled someone up for tampering with your stuff highly doubtful you would have your pass pulled. Even if you did the gear tamperer would be too.

You might find @Normo's skis at the front of the V8 queue while he has a good chin wag with the early morning crew. Call out for him and say hi- he'll be within earshot.

Yeap we're in the pic. I stayed with our skis while my other half went to get breakfast at Avalanche and he stayed with our skis when I headed to the loo. It was all very chilled, had a good old chit chat with the chap behind us then chatted to the group in front of us and then to the guy next to us. Everyone was hanging around either next to their skis or snowboards or just hanging around close by.
It was the same on Saturday. We wanted to avoid the traffic and parking issues so headed off from Berridale by 6am. The early bird catches the worm!

But if people are keen enough to leave their gear for first lifts? Then isnt it reasonable enough to assume they will be back and clipped in before that first lift?

    Now ‘ang on a sec.

It would seem that if you wanna go for brekkie or a pee you have to take your gear with you and rejoin at the end of the queue.

Apparently its deemed unacceptable to either leave gear or let people in

    yes it happens at Perisher.

I have seen it at Perisher a few years ago before I saw the light. In fact there was even a photo on PSR with that and everyone hooraying as it was a few PSR peoples skis. Yet whenever the photo for thredbo rocks up they get outraged and talk about pushing stuff to the side and what not.

Shame these are also the same people who think leaving Jindy at 0930 in the morning on a weekend means they should be able to get front row of the car park.

Well, yes, I imagine that's the case since they mostly never left, except for a quick detour to the coffee counter and back. Standing around having a good yack and a leg stretch beats the hell out of staying clipped in and trying to chat with your back turned to everyone for half an hour or so.

they are, still don't open the doors early enough to get up front of deathbarrel

Then as we leave their skis there on saturdays we have to line up till they open the doors and we can get their skis

a bit of a difference leaving skis in a queue when the lifts are still an hour and a half from spinning to leaving a bag on the table during business hours

Isn't hard to figure that out but by all means go out on your outrage whilst leaving Jindy at 0900 and complaining about lack of parking and traffic and lift lines.

Because people leave their bag on the cafe table and leave for hours, depriving others of the use of the table. Nobody misses out on using the lift if those waiting in the queue are free to mill around socialising until the lift starts running. It's not like they take off and disappear till they're good and ready. Mostly. The owners of those skis lined up at the lift are usually well within earshot, ready to clip in as soon as the lift looks like opening. If they want to take off and have a leisurely hot breakfast, that's something else again, but grabbing a coffee or B&E takeaway half an hour before opening is fair game imho. There's a bit of a grey line between, but I don't see the problem as being much of a problem.

    Clear difference.

    Lift isn’t running.
    People are still queueing.
I can guarantee I am unable to stand in the queue without needing to go pee for an hour at that time of the morning.
They are nearby and ready to stand in the queue in plenty of time. No one is more inconvenienced by this.

The table thing - it’s just bullshit. People want to sit and eat and have all these unoccupied tables reserved by bags - and in my playground a militant Nanny who will go for your throat if you dare share her table for 12. She’s saving it for the family so they can come and go at will ALL DAY. That inconveniences others.

    No they don't
They put their gear on the table and then go inside and order meals, meanwhile others who have waited in line and got a meal could have sat down and eaten their meals at the table by the time others have got their meals and are ready to use it.

As for the lift line, if they are too lazy to wait in line personally they deserve nothing.

    People queue, inanimate objects don't
Anyone that thinks plonking their shit somewhere at a busy ski resorts to get ahead of the rush or the line at the expense of others are just lazy and or have some misplaced sense of privilege.

I read it but you didnt give any reason why there is a difference.
I do understand that people who are too lazy to actually physically wait in line themselves have some bizarre sense of reasoning so it is no surprise you cant explain the reason for it in plain logical terms.

We do that. But leave at least one person with the table and gear. It’s ok if you’re one or two people but if you’re a big group you need to find a table first or you’ll never get one.

So did the people ahead of them who have their meals, they are just trying to jump the line by heaping their crap on a table ahead of time.

happens in a lot of places and is quite civilised.

You are making some broad assumption that they think they own the place.

Shows they are capable of forming a queue with their equipment and politely moving to the side to socialise with other. Unlike those who feel they need to stand in a line at 7AM like a lemming because they don't know how to manage themselves or make things work easily.
