Not clicked in! ?!?!? That’s appalling! How dare they! I would have thrown their skis at them and then complained loudly. But only in my mind.
Well then you waited in line so WTF are you talking about No one said you had to be strapped in your gear waiting in line, you can wait in line in er underpants if you like, so long as you are waiting in line and not just tossing your gear down there and pissing off.
You so special brah I know what i will be getting if I ever see your gear laying on the lift line and you gone and that's a spot ahead of it and Ill be getting a few laughs seeing you pull angry faces when you get back.
Some of the excuses here are laughable. Even though most people think it not ok to just dump your shit in the lift line to reserve a spot then bugger off you still think youre special and should be allowed to do it. The punch line is you all outed yourself here.
Oh yeah, starving people in third world countries lives would be made better if they could just toss their ski gear in the lift line to get ahead of others that have the common manners to wait in line.
This morning was a beauty. No skis in the kosi chair lines while we waited for the lift to open. We all were waiting at the end of the gates. Soon as the barriers were open all these idiots jumped over the barriers and claimed first spot. The people that were waiting with us all yelled out what the Fxxx are you doing. We got the finger. I caught up to a few of them and confronted them. Not so tough when you actually confront them. Lets just say i accidently skied across some of their skis as they were waiting to go down the run. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.
If all you life line moochers can't put in the effort to do what this guy in the image and many other here do to earn your early turns then you deserve no benefits. '
Starving people in third world countries lives would be better if they spent their money on food and not ski gear.
Did you miss the bit where I said I very rarely do the first lifts thing? It's not an issue for me. And did you miss there bit where it doesn't seem to be an issue for those that actually turn up? Rather it seems to be an issue for people like you that don't turn up before lifts open and aren't actually impacted?
I think you’ll find many of the first lifts crew actually do skin. But that also doesn’t fit your image of what’s really going on.
That behaviour is way more of an issue than queuing by leaving skis in orderly lines. I’d be pissed also.
I really can't see the problem with leaving your board/skis in your posi then standing nearby with mates/coffee/pingers/blowup doll/whatever while you all wait for the lifts to open. Those who insist you must be in your bindings probably have other weird fetishes as well.
If there its not a fresh snow morning ,putting anything in line is a wankers act . what difference does it make to ski/board groomed piste first? Its as dumb as people camping out all night to get the first i phone 15.
Do you even ski? Early lines rip! No people, full gas, huge turns, no chopped lines, carving like a hot knife through butter. The later in the season the more it matters. There's only a couple of good runs worth most days, fresh or no.
Is it any different than people being out of their cars lined up at a car ferry because they're taking a piss, grabbing a cup of coffee, admiring the view etc. Imagine if some oddball started haranguing you about being out of your car and what an outrage it is because they happen to be behind you. Infantile bs.
I was in Zambia earlier in the year and was on my way to the ferry crossing into Botswana, as we approached the Zambezi river there was a kms long line up of semi trailers queuing up to get onto the barge that would take them over to the other side one semi at a time. I was told that the drivers typically queue for about one week to get across the river - and that they HAD to stay with their vehicles so they could keep inching forward. No one seemed to be complaining.
a) I take it those two outside their trucks are going back to the end of the line b) What's with the bridge in the background?
As you could imagine there is a whole industry sprung up around the truck queue, selling stuff etc . The bridge in the background is still under construction
So right! Apparently the Chinese government is funding it. these people are so chill, imagine having to wait a week to cross a river to deliver a load of copper! It makes the debate about unattended skis seem so ridiculous.
Put your skis at the front and walk off for bacon and eggs all you like I say. Just don’t expect there not to be 100 people in front of them when you get back. Leave skis there...and they are fair game to be stood in front of and slide backwards for every person who arrives
Probably similar thing has been posted heaps in this thread, but who could be bothered reading through this muck? So internet has reduced us to petty, grumpy, rude people arguing about best lining up procedure. Can throw in heaps of references to third world, refugees, education reform, climate change that we should fire up over (on either side). But people are earnestly going at each other over this? This is sad. Waiting in lines sucks, heaps of times in the world it feels like some people get unfair advantage over us, even though we all know existence and our general privilege is almost so miraculous we really shouldn't ever feel ripped off by anything. Back to the snow photos people! Very few of them today.
I only voted after dbski mentioned the percentages. I expect many of those who don’t care or think it’s ok have not voted.
I’m surprised that such a large response in the poll was created. And by a spammy OP who hasn’t replied since. And the poll options don’t really fit the opinions that have been formed here.
Yep May I suggest * I have left my skis in the queue and headed off back to my lodge/Jindy/whatever, and think it’s all fair game. * I have never left my skis but think anything is fair game. * I have regularly left my skis in the queue and been within cooee enjoying the beautiful morning over coffee with likeminded friends, and that it ok. * I have never left my skis but have no objection to those who do this and stand around close by during the waiting time. * I regularly get to the lift an hour or more before opening and diligently line up clipped in to my skis, I think those having coffee suck. * I regularly arrive at the lift 15 minutes before it opens and I’m devo that all those people got there first so I’m gonna spit the dummy about their queueing practices. * I’ve never arrived at the lift more than a few minutes before opening but I love to have a whinge anyway. * none of the above, storm in a teacup, let’s go skiing!
We can make any guess to the culture of first tracks. A club of cliquey locals, a fun group of people who love skiing, or just the way Thredbo regulars conduct first lifts. But the practice itself isn’t morally wrong. They are nearby to the skis. It’s fine and fair. I personally wouldn’t wake up at 7am to get first lifts, but that’s just me.
I think it indicates first tracks at Thredbo can be so good, that people actually make an effort to get up early to get them. The longest perfect groomers or freshies in Australia.
You clearly only spent a short time in Zambia! My time there (albeit 20 years ago) was less than chill!
I find this debate hilarious and clearly shows those against have never actually been to first lifts! Couple of points I have young kids and a plus one who isnt a morning person so first lifts aren’t a thing. I occasionally get there once or twice a season where I could claim to be in the first few lines. I have managed to get there at 8:20 on a few occasions as well. To those saying people go back to the lodge? How would you know? Do you follow them? The assumptions are hilarious. Most people pop their skis in the queue and stand about catching up with people having a general chat! Sure they are not exactly by their skis but close, sure some get coffee etc. It’s an awesome chilled vide. About 8:15 to 8:20 most people head back to their skis and stand about chatting, as the lines fill up. Sure there are a few keyboard warriors who bitch and moan about this, but I’ve never seen or heard a problem on the hill. And no it’s not the first lifts crew on here that have outed themselves for bad behaviour but the idiots making threats.
Too true, only there for a couple of weeks, but was quite impressed with the attitude of the people and how they could calmly wait all day for something that we in the west would lose our minds if we had to wait 15 mins. For example as we were driving on a highway in the countryside we saw these plastic containers by the side of the road. Apparently if you live in a village and you want to buy beer or charcoal you walk however many kms to the highway, leave the right sort of container by the side of the road and then go kip in the shade. When the truck comes by it sees your container and stops. Thing is you have no idea what time the truck you want will come by so you may be waiting all day. Amazing.
