I wasn't an instructor. The people who work the rooms aren't risking their jobs. Same as asking the staff in the ski shop. expect those that work in child care have check done on them.

Top end forecast of 10 inches + high winds = mammoth pow pow tomorrow! Flew into lax and drove to bishop today. Amazing views
Yesterday was a blue bird day. The groomers were firm with a layer of fresh on top from Tuesday, off piste skied really nicely. The first couple of photos from yesterday.
Today’s snowfalls at Lake Tahoe over achieved on the forecasts, nuking all day. My guess would be at least 6 inches.
The snowfall and low visibility up top kept people away. Most of those who were there spent a good part of the day indoors. Not me I was out there making the most of it.
@Ozgirl you won’t have any trouble skiing off piste around the top two thirds of the mountain. The lower third has patchy snow between trees, unskiable, but the groomers here have full and excellent cover. Even down the base of Stagecoach there’s no sign of softening or slush. With these forecasts those areas may yet become skiable.
It’s extremely cold so the snow is very dry and fluffy. I didn’t ski a single groomer today, trees all the way. Fresh tracks and new lines every run, tracks filling in each run.
@jgm they we’re saying it would take 8 to 10 hours to return to Sacramento on Monday. I can’t imagine a crowded weekend on the slopes would have been worth it.
Snow continued falling at Lake Tahoe all Thursday night and into early afternoon Friday. The sun came out Friday afternoon. We ended up with 10 inches which is a lot more than forecast. It was even deeper through the trees. No Friends On A Powder Day.
sharing a couple of runs with someone who usually skis Utah, said this snow is at least as good as what Utah usually gets. It’s very soft and fluffy. Temperature gauge from halfway up yesterday indicating -1 Fahrenheit. The photo angle looks more like +2, but it was definitely -1. Excuse the mittens in some photos. It was too cold to take them off but very cumbersome holding and trying to click buttons with them.
Rest day today to avoid Saturday crowds. A very good decision because it’s very windy even in town. Plenty of major lifts are in windhold.. It’s still really cold even in town and very light snow has been falling this afternoon.

They seem to close lifts with what would be considered a light breeze at Buller.
They do @jgm , although today's wind hold is warranted. It's a howling gale very low visibility , blizzard conditions.
They've opened a couple more though and very few people around in these conditions.
I'm an Aussie though. We're bred tough and I feel right at home. Just like Mt Buller only better as I'm skiing in powder and it's falling heavily. Dei to bring another foot by tomorrow, then another bigger storm Thursday.
Earned a hot drink now looking out in this, before Joining the handful of other desperadoes!
You lucked out - we went 3 years ago when they had no snow!
I liked the idea of it just wish we would have been able to explore more.
we wont be going in March cause we have Epic passes not Mtn Collective.
But keen to do Heavenly anyway as it will be the 20 anniversary since i worked there - which must also mean is 20 years since Sonny Bono's death. And also the JFK dude that hit the tree playing aussie rules.
So i have just been doing some googling and this is a very interesting read!

For those who know Heavenly. there was lots of chat at the time about how good of a skier Sonny was, and that it seemed strange that he hit a tree on a relatively easy run (Orion's) people assumed that drugs or alcohol were at play. No chat of Murder!!

My feeling is that being 63 his fading peripheral vision meant he must did not see the tree and at a relatively low velocity age meant the collision was fatal. It is a well known phenomenon in motor vehicle accident research that an older person will be killed in a collision which will hospitalize a person in their 30s or 40s or from which a younger person might walk away from, just due to bodily tissues becoming thin and inelastic.

And also enjoyed breakfast at Cafe Genevieve which when the Food Network started in Australia it featured in Diners Drive in and dives! Would have loved to have tried other meals besides breakfast!

After 15” at Heavenly, we had a gorgeous blue bird day yesterday.This is the driest fluffiest snow I think I’ve ever skied. It has been very cold since I arrived and and staying that way.
Another big storm is forecast from tonight. The biggest blizzard of the season bringing several feet of snow by Saturday. Weather warnings, road warnings and closures, stay indoors stay safe warnings. It sounds like lifts will be on windhold so probably no skiing tomorrow.
We skied Northstar today. Would have preferred Kirkwood but friends hadn’t skied Northstar before. It was an easy fun cruise. Not many people around so barely any lift lines. The snow is excellent quality and plenty of fresh tracks between trees but some of the runs are closed because of thin cover. That may change after tonight. We had some flurries between sunshine.
We love Kirkwood too.
Was wondering if we should do a sneaky day at Northstar (requires a trek though. although we could move hotels too make the trip back to SF a tiny bit easier) So its mellow? Other friends have loved it but i think they just liked the parks?? (they were snowboarders)the main downside of northstar is the bottleneck at comstock lift.
thats only really a problem on a weekend. during the week its otherewise got decent fall line groomers and some reasonable tree skiing.
of the epic resorts, i rate it above heavenly but below kirkwood.
What is it about Heavenly you don't like (besides crowds?) I suppose since i spent a season there it near and dear to my heart. But also got to know it well!
@Ozgirl if It wasn’t so isolated I’d stay and ski at Kirkwood. I really like that resort. I hope to get there next week.
Northstar has a lot of mellow terrain, but good blue and black runs too. Quite a few black runs are wide, groomed and cruisey, but a few are left ungroomed. More challenging tree terrain in between. Go while it’s snowing or straight after a fresh snowfall otherwise snow quality can suffer after a couple of days.
When will you be in Tahoe?
@fmdc9 Northstar does get busy on weekends. No problem yesterday with a wait of around 6 chairs at the busiest times. It’s become a huge town with so many condos. I wonder if they’ll end up doing similar at Kirkwood.
Blizzard conditions at Sth Lake today, chairs on windhold so I had a break but am hoping to ski tomorrow. Not surprisingly, the lake shore was deserted. I’d say around 8” in town so far and snowing very heavily all day. More coming during the night and continuing until Saturday.
OK, what's the negatives against the other two that rate higher to you?

We spent the day snowmobiling our to hot springs that was brilliant.
With thigh deep powder outside my door and down my stairs this morning, getting breakfast was quite the challenge!
We had over half a metre overnight and snowing heavily all day. It’s still going strong at 9pm. Rented some fatties and smashed it. The deepest driest fluffiest snow I’ve ever skied with competence so today’s few photos are going straight to the Pool Room!
Tomorrow will be busy being Saturday, but hoping road closures will reduce that a little
Plenty of powder for all, it’s the lift queues. Although it’s easy enough to avoid the.popular ones. The snow is fantastic everywhere so even today lift queues weren’t a problem. Not many photos today. No Friends On a Powder Day, no photos on a Powder Day

@Ozgirl I’m leaving on the 14th. I’m disappointed I won’t get to say hi. Would have been fun to share a run or two with another Tahoe skier.
