any news on V'm for this season ?
..Im fascinated by this concept ...
Skiing is still a few years away.
A big factor that may contribute to its success is 300m vert summer skiing. This would presumably be utilised by the Canadian ski team and probably the Yanks as well. This would act as a drawcard for skiers/boarders who want to hang out with their heroes.
Take a punt and buy a piece of real estate nearby
How often do planes crash there?
We flew out of there and it was a convenient as all fk
I'd be more worried of flying into Bali with an unlocked boogie bag
I haven't heard any response from Alpine Canada about Valemount, but I'm far from connected on that front. They have a summer facility on Farnham Glacier (basically at the location of the proposed Jumbo resort near Panorama) for the aspiring FIS athletes, but the national teams typically go to Chile or the European glacier facilities. Provincial teams from the west use Mt Hood (Oregon) or do the hike in to Farnham. So you'd think there would be interest for something with more amenities and accessibility, but a ski resort for the public and a training facility for athletes are not the same thing. The latter can exist within the former, but it takes time and money to develop facilities, and amateur ski racing organizations have little in the way of cash.
My take is Valemount is all about summer sightseeing. There's vastly more traffic past their door in summer than winter, and skiers from the large centres (Vancouver, Edmonton - 6 hours) and regional centres (Kamloops, Prince George - 3 hours) all have to drive past other well established resorts to get to Valemount. It'll be a while before we see actual resort style skiing there.
The Obertis other all year round project in Canada just got a boost.
It's not particularly cheap
So the speculators have already struck?
It is a prime summer tourist area adjacent Mt Robson Provincial Park and on a major connector highway.
Deeply entrenched local opposition and now we have a new provincial govt with the Greens holding the balance of power. Jumbo won't get built in my lifetime. The Obertis moved on, Valemount and the local first nations welcomed them with open arms.
The only people who seem to have made any good of that situation were Patagonia™ with their marketing video
Any update on V for this season ?
This season? I thought that if all goes well (and that's a big 'if'), it will be open in 2021 or so.
Nothing concrete happening on the Valemount project, waiting for funding.
Progress perhaps but starting to sound more like an episode of Yellowstone.
I read that and my thoughts were "pie in the sky". A great idea, but with the 100 obstacles in its way that were all canvassed upthread.
