Looks like that band has intensified a bit as it moved south (compared to when I looked at the radar earlier). There certainly wasn't any orange or red in it 90 minutes ago

Those yellow and orange colours on the radar were almost certainly bright banding (snowflakes aloft) given the small rainfall totals from it.
Agonisingly slow progress southwards, it's taken over an hour and a half to get from Lilydale to Monbulk.
7 degrees and 2mm here so far.

Yep very slow, and hasn;t even delivered 2mm as yet.. BUT damn it got cold! dropped from a high of 12.1, to 8.6. Rain now coming from the East which usually means SFA until is swings more S/SW eventually.. not sure when that will happen, im crap at reading these systems from radar..

Depends where you are. Western 'burbs up to near 7-10mm since 9am and the NE burbs not far behind.
The south of the city is missing out entirely though, nothing lower bayside (Hampton south) and very little south of there unless you're on the western side of the bay.

Yes I can see that, but what happens next do you think? Will we get an attack from the SW tonight, or thats tomorrows job?

I think we'll get some more overnight and tomorrow during the day will be just the odd shower.
Wednesday might produce a little more during the day, but it's not going to be big falls.

Those pics of the spider webs are amazing!
Thanks @Snowy Joey. I wasn’t sure how much detail I'd manage, or whether I could hold the cam steady enough for sharp images, so I’m pleased how they turned out. Quite amazing to think the larger drops were only 3 – 4mm diameter!

Rain began here in the northeast fringes around 11.30am today, continuing softly and steadily with a few breaks now and then.

It didn’t seem to bother the locals who continued marauding our gumnuts. You can see tiny raindrops on the feathers.

The swamps have been bone dry, so we’re hoping this week will fill them a bit. Also give our thirsty garden a good drink.

The temperature didn’t make it to double digits today. No wonder we were cold when out walking at 7am. It wasn’t even 6 degrees then. This little tyke has the right idea how to keep snuggly warm. I think we might need to copy the idea and invest in some of those snuggie-blanket/robes by the end of this week.

It's moving quickly, much quicker movement than what I was expecting, and hence why the BOM calling for winds turning W late evening makes sense, but is still surprising to me. light rain set in again up to 2.5mm now, still hovering on 8 degrees and can feel it leaching in through the gaps.

Under that slow moving S-N cell for a good 3/4 hour now. Solid drop the whole time, must have copped a few mms in that time easy

Delicious looking cold pool heading our way, could be everything bar the kitchen sink today. I hope to post photos of hail covered ground later today.

Just a tad too westerly for us here, everything is too north or too south.
Expect things to ramp up when it goes more southwesterly later.
The Otways tend to kill off our showers when it is more west than south.

Radar seems to be showing an uptick in shower activity now, seems to be coming from the SW.

Any idea why the normal rain train off the bay in coldie systems like this doesn't seem to be occurring?

Cells seem to be dying out just before or as soon as they hit the peninsula since this morning.

Seems odd.
It will be more SWerly tomorrow and the rain will return.

5.3 here with about 10mm in 36hrs. Really can feel the cold and for once the fire is not just window dressing. Interesting to see what the temp get down to overnight.
Left Boronia around 8pm and car indicated 6 deg, got down to 5.5 at Mt Evelyn, now 5.7 at home.
