    Hi All,

I need to get a visa for Vietnam.

There seems to be these online companies were you apply on line (like a visa waiver program) and show up with the confirmation passport photos etc at Immigration on arrival.

    Are these legit?

Yeah i did more research myself - turns out some are legit some are not.

But the worst is you basically have to hang out at the airport waiting for them to make your visa.

BUT have just found another loop hole. German passport holders do not need one!

We sent our passports to the Embassy in Canberra. No fuss.

Just use the online visa agents. Pretty simple. Maybe 20 minutes of waiting to get in when arrived.

Beats the hassle of posting away and cheaper.

I used vietnamvisapro a couple of years ago.

Eski's success not withstanding, there are heaps of scams online.

+1 researched it thoroughly when we went in 2015. If you are not in Canberra or Syd then it is legit to post and have returned as per Tanuki. We did this 48hr turnaround.

The problem with the official Syd Consulate site is that it has the same 'amateur' look as most of the scam sites, it also debunks the scam sites with language that makes you think it also is a scam site.

    Embassy site here http://vietnamembassy.org.au/

All the advise on TripAdvisor and elsewhere is DO NOT turn up at the border without a legit pre-arranged Visa.. You will not get one at the border that passes muster. Not worth the risk.

We crossed from Cambodia into Vietnam at a river border on the Mekong. Definitely too risky without a legit Visa.

Germany is one of the very few countries that has more freedom of movement than Aussies.

    We also did this.
You can get fairly scammed doing the visa on arrival there

On our first trip to Vietnam in 2007 we crossed from Cambodia, right down south on the coast east of Sihanoukville. No visa or anything. Just a few stamps and from memory about $50USD each.

Edit: my wife just corrected my dodgy memory. We actually got a visa in Sihanoukville. Was fairly shonky though.

I used vietnamvisa.com 12 months ago to enter via Da Nang.

    Definitely not a scam.
    Worked perfectly.
A very good service; would use again.

I can't believe people are stressing about one of the easiest visas to get (excluding waivers or VOAs).

You guys would be stuffed trying to work out a Sudanese or Turkmen visa.

We did our Vietnam visa online through immigration.gov.vn < week to get the email visa that you print out. Didn't have to send our passports anywhere - just upload photos.

When we were at the airport checking in to fly to Bali, the Jetstar guy asked us when our return flight was booked and with which airline? Having been to Bali a number of times we know the visa time requirements but didn't realise you had to have your on flight booked. We were going to "suck it & see" how I went with travel so we only had a 1 way ticket. We made a quick decision to go spend a month in Indonesia then fly to Vietnam. Walked over to Jetstar desk, booked a flight then went back to check into get to Bali. We organised the Vietnam visa online from Bali - no dramas. Couldn't be easier.

With the rise of Vietnam as a tourist destination their govt has worked out that Visas are an earn. Not sure 2007 advice applies anymore.

It’s not particularly difficult to secure a visa, but there are scams and not all resellers are sanctioned.

Well, my wife has now reliably informed me that we actually did apply for a visa in Sihanoukville. Whoops, fading memories - my bad.
