Probably something to do with this:-

No thats the forum which exploded after the server upgrade along with the imagemagick script for cams.
They installed Imagemagcik to fix that but I dont have time to find out what modules are not installed that the forum needs
Aside from that I intended to close it.
I just dont have time to mess with a forum due to the business taking up my time and it uses too much bandwidth 1.6g a month and forums are spammer magnets, it shares the IP of my business site on my second server account and I wanted that on its own IP so it has to go.

The cam images are on a different server that was subject to the upgrade also.
I changed the front page of the forum to just show the 2 private cams at VS and APIRA and will leave that after I park at back at the old server till the dom expires.

I had to resist the urge to replace the truck in shot with an image of Blake the Flake doing a photo bomb.

It is odd that it dropped out at 3AM but it may be the ISP has reset some values during an upgrade or backup.
Well find out when you get up there and try the internet.

I'd be surprised if it was a power issue because the plaug pack 24V AC is rated well over the current the camera and housing draws.
That said, the plug pack was outside in the box for a few years so it may have died.

I have another plug pack and waterproof housing for it I was going to use when I fitted the new camera housing but the sparky hadn't completed the GPO outside so had to run the cable inside with the ethernet cable and used to older power pack inside.
So at some point I still need to fit the outside one and get rid of the power pack and power cable to inside.

All I need to do is cut the wires outside at the fence coming from the camer and join the power pack cable to it to plug in outside.
It's AC power so polarity of the wires is not important so just needs to be cut and new one put in place and joined with crimp joiners to go to the outside GPO

VS cam has run a few times over summer and seems to be working fine so should be right for winter.

APIRA cam, the WiFi bridge died around new year and spoke to the IT who was up there last week and he tested it and the power pack and both are toast.
Its the same WiFi bridge I had on the VS cam that played possum a lot but that one has been fairly solid, but it dead now and I don't think Ill be using the old VS cam bridge to replace it.
I'm going to replace the Bridge and separate Hub with a new WiFi router so I can plug cam and temp sensor and lighting control unit in to it and run it in bridge mode.
Hope to get that done before Winter, depends on work parties and if the IT can get back up there.

Was just reading back about camera ideas, have you seen those new 360 degree "Fisheye" cameras, that let you "cut out" virtual cameras from the dome image it produces? The software outputs what looks like multiple physical cameras and un-distorts the fisheye from those slices. You can freely customise how many "cameras" are being output, at whatever angle, etc.

All from one physical, static, no moving parts device with one camera, one lens.

    Something like this : http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1064484-REG/samsung_snf_7010vm_3mp_day.html

Not so good sorry Look like it ok for indoor only

Its basically just scanning sections of a heavy fish eye lens and while the sensors is 1/2.8 that is the full lens res so once you snap a section of the lens its digital zoom and res drops by a lot.
Expect a lot of vignette in stills.
It's got some heavy duty tombstone effects in shot due to the full images being so wide angle fish eye.
Its cheap but not up to the job for VS.
But thanks for the suggestion anyways.

And congrats on the gig at Buller this winter.
    Itll be Epic season.

Oh yeah, this is just the first example I grabbed off the shelf at the B&H site, I'm sure there's better options.

Some hospo venues are putting 2 or 3 of them in a room, which gives you full coverage from multiple angles, because you can go back through recorded footage and look at the whole 360, then zoom into what you want. No blind spots / sleight of hand. I think retails getting on it too.

If were going to do a new VS cam I think we need to go better than we have by an order of worthiness.

It was about 1.5k of kit back when I bought it many years ago and I think we need to at least that again or better.

A few options on previous page here for units and funding some ways.

But we have to be mindful of the property owner and the rules to abide, all new renovations there too so it has to be approved and aesthetic and stuff so cant just slap a new one on her.
Il chat to LTB again as we go and some stage upgrading might be an option there to use a pendant that allows more modern camera, and then we can think about funding and what we get for it.

And if all works out there we can re-home the old VS cam to a new site and add another indy Mt Buller cam.

OK APIRA cam is now up

I talked to the IT guy who is a club member and suggested we try hard wiring if possible.
So work party this weekend he hard wired the Ethernet cable to router instead of the WiFi bridge like I did with VS cam so now APIRA cam should be solid connection too.
Long cable run so took him a while, good effort.

I just need to update my script with the fixed IP and it'll get temps and put them in the image.

Reminder also that I put a lamp on it last year pointing at the roof which I can turn on and off remotely.
So ill turn that on at nights so we can see the roof directly in front of the camera.
I'm doing it manually now and just have to add a script to turn the light on based on time of day so it always comes on same time at night.

So that's it, both cams up for the season and APIRA one will be on all year.

I noticed it back up earlier. It's been snowing very very lightly here for the
last couple of hours, you could see it if you looked closely at both your
cameras. Of course all the resort cams are sleeping now.

I see it on APIRA roof now.

Glad I got that light in last year, it was near the end of the season after falls so wasn't a lot of use but will come in handy now.

Site is a bit up and down at the moment.
Been with the host for nearly 20 years now and its dropping the ball regularly and their techs are lazy as dirt and do a ping test and tell me its fine.
Its not, looking for a new host.
Should have seen it coming after the blew up the forum.
FTP and admin always works and that cam images go to the same server and doesn't fail but the http failing badly.

Other possibility is you are on BigPond which is failing a lot lately.

I head the other day that all the buller cameras are now capable of full 1080p streaming but they don't have the bandwidth to get the images off the hill.

maybe time to update from dialup, wtf. The hill has fiber, I'm connected at 27Mb/s
with ADSL2+, down. But there is plenty of bandwidth in general. Although it drops
quite a bit on weekends in the peak of Winter. But that's just Telstra being cheap
and not adding hardware to use another fiber or 2.
