It's that time again. Forest and Bird's annual Bird of The Year poll. All lovers of the South Island High Country should put aside thoughts of stripped wind-screen wipers, stolen hot chips and other mayhem and cast a vote for the smartest bird in NZ.

Sorry, I've tried really, really hard.

But it's utterly impossible to love a kea. [IMG]

Mates mother had a pet one a few years ago. She was the only one who could hold/feed it,anyone else who tried would almost lose a finger.

I remebr all to well years ago cycle touring NZ with a dutch girl and leaving our bikes at the mt cook campsite only to have a kea or two steal a bike seat and remove a bike tyre.

Lets put it this was the nearest Bicycle shop was Twizel a days ride away. Give credit to the DoC workers that helped us out though.

Bird of the year? well they do make great photo models [IMG]

Nah, they're all good. Probably wouldn't be nearly as bad if the majority of huts weren't built with lead flashings...

That said, F&B really grind me at times, so I don't know if I'll get behind this or not.
